< Mark 12 >

1 And He began to speak unto them in parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and made a fence about it, and digged a place for the wine-fat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and travelled abroad.
Et cœpit illis in parabolis loqui: Vineam pastinavit homo, et circumdedit sepem, et fodit lacum, et ædificavit turrim, et locavit eam agricolis, et peregre profectus est.
2 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that he might receive from them of the fruit of the vineyard:
Et misit ad agricolas in tempore servum ut ab agricolis acciperet de fructu vineæ.
3 and they took him and beat him, and sent him away empty.
Qui apprehensum eum ceciderunt, et dimiserunt vacuum.
4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they threw stones, and wounded him on the head, and sent him away shamefully used.
Et iterum misit ad illos alium servum: et illum in capite vulneraverunt, et contumeliis affecerunt.
5 And again, he sent another; and him they killed: and many others, beating some, and killing others.
Et rursum alium misit, et illum occiderunt: et plures alios: quosdam cædentes, alios vero occidentes.
6 Having yet therefore one Son, his beloved, he sent him also at last unto them, saying, they will reverence my Son.
Adhuc ergo unum habens filium charissimum: et illum misit ad eos novissimum, dicens: Quia reverebuntur filium meum.
7 But the husbandmen said to one another, this is the heir, Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.
Coloni autem dixerunt ad invicem: Hic est heres: venite, occidamus eum: et nostra erit hereditas.
8 And they took him, and killed Him too, casting him out of the vineyard.
Et apprehendentes eum, occiderunt: et eiecerunt extra vineam.
9 What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy those husbandmen, and will let the vineyard to others.
Quid ergo faciet dominus vineæ? Veniet, et perdet colonos: et dabit vineam aliis.
10 And have ye not read this scripture, "The stone, which the builders refused, is become the head of the corner:
Nec scripturam hanc legistis: Lapidem, quem reprobaverunt ædificantes, hic factus est in caput anguli:
11 this was from the Lord, and it is marvellous in our eyes."
A Domino factum est istud, et est mirabile in oculis nostris?
12 And they sought to lay hands on Him, but they were afraid of the people; (for they knew that He spake the parable against them) and they left Him, and went away.
Et quærebant eum tenere: et timuerunt turbam. Cognoverunt enim quoniam ad eos parabolam hanc dixerit. Et relicto eo abierunt.
13 And they send to Him some of the pharisees, and of the Herodians to insnare Him in his discourse:
Et mittunt ad eum quosdam ex Pharisæis, et Herodianis, ut eum caperent in verbo.
14 and these, when they came, said to Him, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth, and carest for no man; for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to pay tribute to Cesar, or not? should we give, or should we not give?
Qui venientes dicunt ei: Magister, scimus quia verax es, et non curas quemquam: nec enim vides in faciem hominum, sed in veritate viam Dei doces. Licet dari tributum Cæsari, an non dabimus?
15 But He knew their hypocrisy, and said to them, Why do ye tempt me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.
Qui sciens versutiam illorum, ait illos: Quid me tentatis? afferte mihi denarium ut videam.
16 So they brought one: and He saith to them, Whose is this image and inscription? And they said Cesar's.
At illi attulerunt ei. Et ait illis: Cuius est imago hæc, et inscriptio? Dicunt ei: Cæsaris.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Render then unto Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at Him.
Respondens autem Iesus dixit illis: Reddite igitur quæ sunt Cæsaris, Cæsari: et quæ sunt Dei, Deo. Et mirabantur super eo.
18 Then come the sadducees to Him, who say there is no resurrection;
Et venerunt ad eum Sadducæi, qui dicunt resurrectionem non esse: et interrogabant eum dicentes:
19 and they asked Him, saying, Master, Moses, in his writings tells us, if any one's brother die, and leave a wife, and leave no children, that his brother shall take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.
Magister, Moyses nobis scripsit, ut si cuius frater mortuus fuerit, et dimiserit uxorem, et filios non reliquerit, accipiat frater eius uxorem ipsius, et resuscitet semen fratri suo.
20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife and died and left no seed;
Septem ergo fratres erant: et primus accepit uxorem, et mortuus est non relicto semine.
21 and the second took her, and died, and he left no seed neither; and the third likewise.
Et secundus accepit eam, et mortuus est: et nec iste reliquit semen. Et tertius similiter.
22 And all the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all died the woman also.
Et acceperunt eam similiter septem: et non reliquerunt semen. Novissima omnium defuncta est et mulier.
23 In the resurrection therefore, when they rise again, whose wife shall be of them; for all the seven had her to wife?
In resurrectione ergo cum resurrexerint, cuius de his erit uxor? Septem enim habuerunt eam uxorem.
24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God?
Et respondens Iesus, ait illis: Nonne ideo erratis, non scientes Scripturas, neque virtutem Dei?
25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels in heaven.
Cum enim a mortuis resurrexerint, neque nubent, neque nubentur, sed sunt sicut Angeli in cælis.
26 But as to the dead, that they are raised, have ye not read in the book of Moses, how God spake to him in the bush, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
De mortuis autem quod resurgant, non legistis in libro Moysi, super rubum quomodo dixerit illi Deus, inquiens: Ego sum Deus Abraham, et Deus Isaac, et Deus Iacob?
27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living: therefore ye do greatly mistake.
Non est Deus mortuorum, sed vivorum. Vos ergo multum erratis.
28 And one of the scribes, who heard them disputing, seeing that He answered them well, came to Him and asked Him, Which is the chief commandment of all?
Et accessit unus de scribis, qui audierat illos conquirentes, et videns quoniam bene illis responderit, interrogavit eum quod esset primum omnium mandatum.
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord,
Iesus autem respondit ei: Quia primum omnium mandatum est: Audi Israel, Dominus Deus tuus, Deus unus est:
30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:" this is the first or chief commandment,
et diliges Dominum Deum tuum ex tota corde tuo, et ex tota anima tua, et ex tota mente tua, et ex tota virtute tua. Hoc est primum mandatum.
31 and the second is like it, even this, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself:" there is no other commandment greater than these.
Secundum autem simile est illi: Diliges proximum tuum tamquam teipsum. Maius horum aliud mandatum non est.
32 And the scribe said unto Him, Truly, Master, thou hast spoke exceeding well; for there is one God, and there is no other beside Him.
Et ait illi scriba: Bene Magister, in veritate dixisti, quia unus est Deus, et non est alius præter eum.
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole-burnt-offerings and sacrifices.
Et ut diligatur ex toto corde, et ex toto intellectu, et ex tota anima, et ex tota fortitudine: et diligere proximum tamquam seipsum, maius est omnibus holocautomatibus, et sacrificiis.
34 And Jesus seeing that he answered discreetly, said to him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared any more to put questions to Him.
Iesus autem videns quod sapienter respondisset, dixit illi: Non es longe a regno Dei. Et nemo iam audebat eum interrogare.
35 And Jesus spake and said, as He was teaching in the temple, How do the scribes say, that the Christ is the son of David?
Et respondens Iesus dicebat, docens in templo: Quomodo dicunt scribæ Christum filium esse David?
36 for David himself said by the holy Spirit, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Ipse enim David dicit in Spiritu Sancto: Dixit Dominus Domino meo, Sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimicos tuos scabellum pedum tuorum.
37 So that David himself calleth Him Lord: how then is He his son? And many of the people heard Him with pleasure.
Ipse ergo David dicit eum Dominum, et unde est filius eius? Et multa turba eum libenter audivit.
38 And He said unto them as He was teaching them, Beware of the scribes, who love to walk in long robes, and salutations in public-places,
Et dicebat eis in doctrina sua: Cavete a scribis, qui volunt in stolis ambulare, et salutari in foro,
39 and the chief seats in the synagogues, and uppermost places at feasts;
et in primis cathedris sedere in synagogis, et primos discubitus in cœnis:
40 who devour widows houses, and for a shew of religion make long prayers: these shall receive the heavier judgement.
qui devorant domos viduarum sub obtentu prolixæ orationis: hi accipient prolixius iudicium.
41 And as Jesus was sitting over against the treasury, He saw how the people threw money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in much;
Et sedens Iesus contra gazophylacium, aspiciebat quomodo turba iactaret æs in gazophylacium, et multi divites iactabant multa.
42 and there came a poor widow and put in two mites, that is, a farthing.
Cum venisset autem vidua una pauper, misit duo minuta, quod est quadrans,
43 And He called his disciples to Him, and saith unto them, Verily I tell you, that this poor widow has given more than all those who have cast into the treasury.
et convocans discipulos suos, ait illis: Amen dico vobis, quoniam vidua hæc pauper plus omnibus misit, qui miserunt in gazophylacium.
44 For they all have contributed out of their abundance: but she out of her penury hath given all that she had, even her whole living.
Omnes enim ex eo, quod abundabat illis, miserunt: hæc vero de penuria sua omnia quæ habuit misit totum victum suum.
