Acts 23

1 and Paul looking earnestly at the sanhedrim, said, "Brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God even to this day:"

பவுல் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்திலுள்ளவர்களை நேருக்கு நேராகப் பார்த்து, “சகோதரரே, இன்றுவரை ஒரு நல்ல மனசாட்சியுடனே நான் இறைவனுக்குரிய எனது கடமையை நிறைவேற்றியிருக்கிறேன்” என்றான்.

2 but the high priest Ananias ordered those that stood next him, to smite him on the mouth.

பவுல் இதைச் சொன்னபோது, பிரதான ஆசாரியனான அனனியா, பவுலின் அருகில் நின்றவர்களைப் பார்த்து, அவனுடைய வாயிலே அடிக்கும்படி உத்தரவிட்டான்.

3 Then said Paul to him, "God will smite thee, thou whited wall: dost thou sit to judge me according to the law, and contrary to the law commandest me to be smitten?"

அப்பொழுது பவுல் அவனிடம், “வெள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்ட சுவரே, இறைவன் உம்மை அடிப்பார்! மோசேயின் சட்டத்தின்படி என்னை நியாயம் விசாரிப்பதற்கு, நீர் அங்கே உட்கார்ந்திருக்கிறீர். ஆனால் என்னை அடிக்கும்படி கட்டளையிட்டு, நீரே மோசேயின் சட்டத்தை மீறுகிறீரே!” என்றான்.

4 But they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high-priest?

அப்பொழுது பவுலின் அருகே நின்றவர்கள், “இறைவனுடைய பிரதான ஆசாரியனை அவமதிக்கத் துணிகிறாயா?” என்றார்கள்.

5 And Paul said, I was not aware, brethren, that it was the high-priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

அதற்குப் பவுல், “சகோதரரே, அவர் பிரதான ஆசாரியன் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியாது; ஏனெனில், ‘உனது மக்களின் ஆளுநனைக் குறித்துத் தீமையாய்ப் பேசவேண்டாம்’ என்று எழுதியிருக்கிறதே” என்றான்.

6 But Paul, knowing that the one part were sadducees, and the other pharisees, cried out in the sanhedrim, "Brethren, I am a pharisee, the son of a pharisee: for the hope of a resurrection of the dead I am now prosecuted."

பின்பு பவுல், அவர்களில் சிலர் சதுசேயர் என்றும், மற்றவர்கள் பரிசேயர் என்றும் அறிந்து, நீதிமன்றத்தில் உள்ளவர்களைப் பார்த்துச் சொன்னதாவது: “என் சகோதரரே, நான் ஒரு பரிசேயன், பரிசேயனின் மகன். இறந்தவர்கள் உயிர்த்தெழுவார்கள் என்ற எனது எதிர்பார்ப்பின் நிமித்தமே, நான் இங்கு விசாரிக்கப்படும்படி நிற்கிறேன்” என்றான்.

7 Upon his saying this, there rose a contention between the pharisees and the sadducees; and the people were divided.

பவுல் இதைச் சொன்னபோது, பரிசேயருக்கும் சதுசேயருக்கும் இடையில் விவாதம் மூண்டது. அங்கு கூடியிருந்தவர்கள் இரண்டாகப் பிரிந்தனர்.

8 For the sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the pharisees acknowledge both.

சதுசேயர் இறந்தவர் உயிர்த்தெழுவதில்லை என்றும், இறைத்தூதரோ ஆவிகளோ இல்லையென்று சொல்லுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் பரிசேயரோ, இவைகளெல்லாம் உண்டென்று ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறார்கள்.

9 So there was a great clamor: and the scribes that were of the party of the pharisees rose up and contended, saying, We find no evil in this man; but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

அங்கு ஒரு பெரிய குழப்பம் ஏற்பட்டது. பரிசேயராய் இருந்த சில மோசேயின் சட்ட ஆசிரியர்கள் எழுந்து நின்று, மிகக் கடுமையாக விவாதித்தார்கள். அவர்கள், “இவனிடத்தில் நாங்கள் குற்றம் ஒன்றையும் காணவில்லை, ஒருவேளை ஒரு ஆவியோ, ஒரு இறைத்தூதனோ அவனுடனே பேசியிருக்கலாம்” என்றார்கள்.

10 But as there arose much contention, the tribune fearing least Paul should be torn in pieces by them, ordered a party of soldiers to go down, and take him by force out of the midst of them, and to bring him into the castle.

விவாதம் வன்முறையானபோது, பவுலைச் சின்னாபின்னமாக்கி விடுவார்களோ என்று படைத்தளபதி பயந்தான். அவன் அவர்களிடமிருந்து பவுலை விடுவித்து முகாமுக்குக் கொண்டுவரும்படி படைவீரருக்கு உத்தரவிட்டான்.

11 And the following night, the Lord standing by him said, Paul, be of good courage; for as thou hast testified concerning me at Jerusalem, so must thou also bear testimony at Rome.

மறுநாள் இரவிலே, கர்த்தர் பவுலின் அருகே நின்று, “நீ தைரியமாய் இரு! நீ எருசலேமில் என்னைக்குறித்து சாட்சி கொடுத்ததுபோல, ரோம் நகரத்திலும் என்னைக்குறித்து சாட்சி கொடுக்கவேண்டும்” என்றார்.

12 And when it was day, some of the Jews, having formed a conspiracy, bound themselves with a curse, saying, that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

மறுநாள் காலையிலேயே சில யூதர்கள் ஒன்றுகூடி, ஒரு சூழ்ச்சி செய்தார்கள். தாங்கள் பவுலைக் கொலைசெய்யும் வரைக்கும் சாப்பிடுவதோ, குடிப்பதோ இல்லையென்று சபதமும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

13 And they were more than forty that had made this oath:

நாற்பதுக்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் இந்த சூழ்ச்சியில் ஈடுபட்டார்கள்.

14 who came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, "We have bound ourselves by a curse to eat nothing till we have killed Paul.

அவர்கள் தலைமை ஆசாரியர்களிடமும், யூதரின் தலைவர்களிடமும் சென்று, “நாங்கள் பவுலைக் கொலைசெய்யும்வரை, எதையும் சாப்பிடுவதில்லை என்று சபதம் செய்திருக்கிறோம்.

15 Now therefore do ye with the rest of the sanhedrim signify to the tribune, that he would bring him down to you to-morrow, as if you would examine more accurately some things concerning him: and we are ready to dispatch him before he come near you."

இப்பொழுது நீங்களும், ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களும், பவுலை உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகக் கொண்டுவரும்படி படைத்தளபதியிடம் முறையிடுங்கள். அவனுடைய வழக்கை இன்னும் தெளிவாய் விசாரிக்கப் போவதாக முயற்சிசெய்ய வேண்டும். அவன் இங்கே வருவதற்கு முன்பதாகவே, அவனைக் கொன்றுவிட நாங்கள் ஆயத்தமாக இருப்போம்” என்றார்கள்.

16 But Paul's sister's son, hearing of the ambush, came and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

ஆனால் பவுலின் சகோதரியின் மகன், இந்தச் சூழ்ச்சியைக் குறித்துக் கேள்விப்பட்டு, அவன் முகாமுக்குள் போய், இதைப் பவுலுக்குச் சொன்னான்.

17 Then Paul called one of the centurions to him, and said, Introduce this young man to the tribune; for he hath something to tell him.

அப்பொழுது பவுல் நூற்றுக்குத் தலைவர்களில் ஒருவனைக் கூப்பிட்டு, “இந்த வாலிபனை படைத்தளபதியிடம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோ; இவன் தலைவனுக்கு அறிவிக்க வேண்டிய ஒரு காரியம் இருக்கிறது” என்றான்.

18 So he took him and brought him to the tribune, and said, Paul the prisoner called me to him, and desired me to introduce this young man unto thee, as having something to say to thee.

அப்படியே அவன் வாலிபனை படைத்தளபதியிடம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு போனான். அந்த நூற்றுக்குத் தலைவன் படைத்தளபதியிடம், “சிறைக்கைதியாய் இருக்கிற பவுல் என்னை ஆளனுப்பி கூப்பிட்டு, இந்த வாலிபனை உம்மிடம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு போகும்படி என்னைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டான். ஏனெனில், இவன் ஏதோ ஒரு காரியத்தை உம்மிடம் சொல்லவேண்டும்” என்றான்.

19 And the tribune took him by the hand, and retiring into a private apartment asked him, What is it which thou hast to tell me?

படைத்தளபதி அந்த வாலிபனின் கையைப் பிடித்து, ஒரு பக்கமாய் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய், “நீ எனக்கு சொல்ல விரும்புகிற காரியம் என்ன?” என்று கேட்டான்.

20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee, that thou wouldest bring down Paul to-morrow to the council, as if they would inquire something more strictly concerning him.

அவன் சொன்னதாவது: “பவுலைக் குறித்து இன்னும் அதிகத் தெளிவாய் விசாரணை செய்யப்போவதாக முயற்சி செய்து, அவரை ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தின் முன்பாக, நாளைக்குக் கொண்டுவர வேண்டும் என்று உம்மைக் கேட்டுக் கொள்வதற்கு யூதர்கள் உடன்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.

21 But do not thou comply with them: for there lie in wait for him more than forty men of them, who have bound themselves with a curse neither to eat nor drink till they have killed him: and they are now ready, waiting for an order from thee.

ஆனால், நீங்கள் அவர்களுக்கு சம்மதிக்கவேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் அவர்களில் நாற்பதுக்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் பவுலை வழியில் கொலைசெய்வதற்காக மறைந்திருக்கிறார்கள். அவரைக் கொலைசெய்யும்வரை, தாங்கள் சாப்பிடுவதோ குடிப்பதோ இல்லையென்று, அவர்கள் சபதம் எடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் இப்பொழுது ஆயத்தமாகி, அவர்களின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கு நீர் சம்மதிக்க வேண்டுமென்று காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள்” என்றான்.

22 Then the tribune dismissed the young man, charging him, Tell no one that thou hast discovered these things to me.

அந்த படைத்தளபதி அந்த வாலிபனைப் போகும்படி சொல்லி, “நீ இதை எனக்கு அறிவித்ததைப்பற்றி ஒருவருக்கும் சொல்லாதே” என்று அவனை எச்சரித்தான்.

23 And he called two of the centurions to him, and said, Get ready two hundred soldiers to go to Cesarea, and seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen, by the third hour of the night.

பின்பு படைத்தளபதி, தன் கீழுள்ள நூற்றுக்குத் தலைவர்களில் இருவரை அழைத்து, அவர்களுக்கு உத்தரவிட்டதாவது: “இன்று இரவு ஒன்பது மணிக்கு செசரியாவுக்குப் போவதற்கு இருநூறு படைவீரரையும், எழுபது குதிரைவீரரையும், இருநூறு ஈட்டி ஏந்தும் வீரரையும் கொண்ட ஒரு படைப்பிரிவை ஆயத்தமாக்குங்கள்.

24 And provide beasts, that they may set Paul on and bring him safe to Felix the governor.

பவுலுக்கும் குதிரைகளை ஆயத்தமாக்குங்கள். அவன் ஆளுநர் பேலிக்ஸினிடம் பாதுகாப்பாய் கொண்டு செல்லப்பட வேண்டும்.”

25 And he wrote a letter to this effect:

அந்த படைத்தளபதி ஒரு கடிதத்தை பின்வருமாறு எழுதினான்:

26 Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

கிலவுதியு லீசியா ஆகிய நான், மாண்புமிகு ஆளுநர் பேலிக்ஸ் அவர்களுக்கு எழுதுகிறதாவது: வாழ்த்துகள்.

27 This man being seized by the Jews, and about to be killed by them, I came upon them with some soldiers and rescued him: for I understand that he is a Roman.

இந்த மனிதன் பவுல் யூதரால் பிடிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தான். அவர்கள் இவனைக் கொலைசெய்ய முயற்சிக்கையில், இவன் ஒரு ரோம குடிமகன் என்று நான் அறிந்து, எனது படைவீரருடன் சென்று, இவனைத் தப்புவித்தேன்.

28 But desiring to know the cause for which they accused him, I brought him down into their council:

அவர்கள் இவனைக் குற்றம் சாட்டுவது ஏன் என்று அறிய விரும்பி, நான் இவனை அவர்களுடைய ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்திற்கு முன்பாகக் கொண்டுவந்தேன்.

29 and I found he was accused about questions of their law, but had no charge against him deserving death or bonds.

அவர்கள் சுமத்திய குற்றச்சாட்டு, அவர்களது சட்டத்தைக் குறித்த கேள்விகளோடு சம்பந்தப்பட்டதாகவே இருந்தது. அவை மரண தண்டனைக்கோ, சிறைத் தண்டனைக்கோ ஏதுவான குற்றச்சாட்டாய் இருக்கவில்லை.

30 But an ambush, which was going to be laid for the man by the Jews, being discovered to me, immediately I sent him to thee, telling his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

இவனுக்கு எதிராக சூழ்ச்சி செய்யப்படுவதாக எனக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, நான் உடனே இவனை உம்மிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பிவைக்கிறேன். இவனைக் குற்றம் சாட்டியவர்களுக்கும், இவனுக்கு விரோதமான தங்களது வழக்கை உம்மிடம் கொண்டுவரும்படி உத்தரவிட்டிருக்கிறேன்.

31 The soldiers therefore, according to the orders given them, took up Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

எனவே படைவீரர்கள் தங்களுக்கு உத்தரவிடப்பட்டபடியே, இரவுவேளையில் பவுலைத் தங்களுடன் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அந்திப்பத்திரி பட்டணம்வரை வந்தார்கள்.

32 And the next day they returned to the castle, leaving the horsemen to go with him;

மறுநாள் குதிரைவீரரை அவனுடன் போகும்படி அனுப்பிவிட்டு, மற்றவர்கள் முகாமுக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்.

33 who, when they came into Cesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

குதிரைவீரர் செசரியாவைச் சென்றடைந்தபோது, கடிதத்தை ஆளுநரிடம் கொடுத்து, பவுலையும் அவனிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்கள்.

34 And when the governor had read the letter, and asked of what province he was; being informed that he was of Cilicia, he said,

ஆளுநன் கடிதத்தை வாசித்துவிட்டு, பவுல் எந்த பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்தவன் என்று கேட்டு, சிலிசியாவைச் சேர்ந்தவன் என்று அறிந்து,

35 I will hear thee, when thine accusers are also come. And he ordered him to be kept in Herod's palace.

அவன் பவுலிடம், “உன்னைக் குற்றம் சாட்டுகிறவர்கள் இங்கே வரும்போது, நான் உனது வழக்கை விசாரிப்பேன்” என்றான். பின்பு அவன் ஏரோதுவின் அரண்மனையில் பவுலைக் காவலில் வைக்கும்படி உத்தரவிட்டான்.
