< 1 Peter 3 >

1 Ye women likewise, be subject to your own husbands, that if any believe not the word, they may yet without the word be gained over by the deportment of the wives,
ⲁ̅ⲛⲉϩⲓⲟⲙⲉ ⲟⲛ ⲛⲧⲉⲓϩⲉ ⲉⲩⲑⲃⲃⲓⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲛⲉⲩϩⲁⲓ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲛϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲟ ⲛⲁⲧⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛⲥⲉϯϩⲏⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲁϫⲛϣⲁϫⲉ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲧⲁⲛⲁⲥⲧⲣⲟⲫⲏ ⲛⲛⲉϩⲓⲟⲙⲉ
2 beholding your chaste conversation in the fear of God.
ⲃ̅ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲁⲥⲧⲡⲟⲫⲏ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩϩⲟⲧⲉ
3 Whose adorning, let it not be that without, of plaiting the hair, and putting on of gold, or wearing fine clothes;
ⲅ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲧⲣⲉϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲧϩⲓⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϩⲱⲗⲕ ϩⲓ ⲛⲟⲩⲃ ϩⲓ ϩⲟⲓⲧⲉ
4 but the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
ⲇ̅ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲙⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲉⲧϩⲏⲡ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡϩⲏⲧ ϩⲛ ⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲧⲁⲕⲟ ⲙⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲛⲣⲙⲣⲁϣ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲧϩⲟⲣⲕ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲙⲡⲉⲙⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲧⲁⲓⲏⲩ
5 For so also formerly the holy women, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being submissive to their husbands; as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him her lord:
ⲉ̅ⲧⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲛⲉⲩⲕⲟⲥⲙⲉⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲉϩⲓⲟⲙⲉ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲉⲧϩⲉⲗⲡⲓⲍ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲩⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲛⲉⲩϩⲁⲓ
6 whose daughters ye are, if ye do well, and are not terrified with any sinful fear.
ⲋ̅ⲛⲑⲉ ⲛⲥⲁⲣⲣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉⲥⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲁⲃⲣⲁϩⲁⲙ ⲉⲥⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲁⲥ ⲛϣⲉⲉⲣⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲣ ϩⲟⲧⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲥ ⲛⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛϩⲟⲧⲉ
7 Ye husbands likewise, dwell with them according to knowledge, yielding due respect to the wife as the weaker vessel, and as joint-heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
ⲍ̅ⲛϩⲟⲟⲩⲧ ⲟⲛ ⲛⲧⲉⲓϩⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲟⲩⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛϯ ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲓⲙⲏ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲛϩⲓⲟⲙⲉ ϩⲱⲥ ⲥⲕⲉⲩⲟⲥ ⲛϭⲱⲃ ϫⲉ ϩⲉⲛⲥⲩⲛⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲭⲁⲣⲓⲥ ⲙⲡⲱⲛϩ ⲉⲧⲙⲕⲁ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲛϣⲗⲏⲗ
8 Finally, my beloved, be unanimous, be sympathizing, love as brethren, be compassionate, be courteous:
ⲏ̅ⲡϫⲱⲕ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲣ ⲟⲩϩⲏⲧ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲧⲏⲣⲧⲛ ⲉϣⲡ ϩⲓⲥⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲛⲉⲣⲏⲩ ⲉⲣ ⲙⲁⲓⲥⲟⲛ ⲉⲣ ϣⲁⲛⲁϩⲧⲏϥ ⲉⲑⲃⲃⲓⲉ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ
9 not returning evil for evil, or reproach for reproach: but on the contrary blessing even those that curse you: knowing ye are called unto this, that ye may obtain a blessing.
ⲑ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲧⲱⲱⲃⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲟⲩⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲏ ⲟⲩⲥⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲟⲩⲥⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲟ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲙⲟⲩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲩⲧⲉϩⲙ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉⲡⲁⲓ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲛⲟⲙⲉⲓ ⲙⲡⲉⲥⲙⲟⲩ
10 "For he that would desire life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile;
ⲓ̅ⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲙⲉⲣⲉ ⲡⲱⲛϩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲛⲁⲩ ⲉϩⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲟⲩ ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥⲧⲁⲗϭⲉ ⲡⲉϥⲗⲁⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉϥⲥⲡⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲙϫⲱ ⲛⲟⲩⲕⲣⲟϥ
11 let him turn away from evil, and do good:
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥⲣⲉⲕⲧϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲛϥⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲛϥϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲁ ϯⲣⲏⲛⲏ ⲛϥⲡⲱⲧ ⲛⲥⲱⲥ
12 let him seek peace, and pursue it: for the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil."
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ϫⲉ ⲛⲉⲃⲁⲗ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲉⲩϭⲱϣⲧ ⲉϫⲛ ⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲁⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲩⲣⲁⲕⲉ ⲉⲡⲉⲩⲥⲟⲡⲥ ⲡϩⲟ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲉϫⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲙⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ
13 And who will hurt you, if ye be imitators of Him that is good?
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲑⲙⲕⲉ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲁⲛⲛⲉⲣ ⲣⲉϥⲕⲱϩ ⲉⲡⲁⲅⲁⲑⲟⲛ
14 But if ye should even suffer for righteousness sake, happy are ye: and therefore be not afraid of their menaces, neither be troubled; but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts:
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲡ ϩⲓⲥⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥⲩⲛⲏ ⲛⲁⲓⲁⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲩϩⲟⲧⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲣ ϩⲟⲧⲉ ϩⲏⲧⲥ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲣϣⲧⲟⲣⲧⲣ
15 and be always ready to answer every one that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and reverence:
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲙⲁⲧⲃⲃⲟϥ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲉⲃⲧⲱⲧ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉϯ ⲁⲡⲟⲗⲟⲅⲓⲁ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲁⲓⲧⲉⲓ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ⲙⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲑⲉⲗⲡⲓⲥ ⲉⲧⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ
16 having a good conscience, that whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who calumniate your good conversation in Christ.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲛⲧⲣⲙⲣⲁϣ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩϩⲟⲧⲉ ⲉⲩⲉⲛⲧⲏⲧⲛ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲛⲛⲟⲩⲥⲩⲛⲏⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲉⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲥ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩⲕⲁⲧⲁⲗⲁⲗⲉⲓ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲉⲩⲉϫⲓ ϣⲓⲡⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲉⲧⲥⲱϣϥ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲁⲥⲧⲣⲟⲫⲏ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲥ ⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ
17 For it is better (if it be the will of God) to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲥ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲡ ϩⲓⲥⲉ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲟ ⲉⲣⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ
18 As Christ also once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust (that He might introduce us to God) being indeed put to death in the flesh, but raised to life by the Spirit:
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲁϥⲙⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲩⲥⲟⲡ ϩⲁ ⲛⲉⲛⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲡⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ϩⲁⲛⲣⲉϥϫⲓ ⲛϭⲟⲛⲥ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϥⲧⲉⲣⲉⲧⲛϩⲱⲛ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲁϥⲙⲟⲩ ⲙⲛ ϩⲛ ⲧⲥⲁⲣⲝ ⲁϥⲱⲛϩ ⲇⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ
19 by which also He went and preached to the spirits now in prison;
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ϩⲙ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲁϥⲃⲱⲕ ⲁϥⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲛⲛⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲉϣⲧⲉⲕⲟ
20 who of old were disobedient, when the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was preparing; wherein a few, that is eight souls, were saved by water.
ⲕ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁⲩⲣ ⲁⲧⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲉⲛⲉⲣⲉⲧⲙⲛⲧϩⲁⲣϣ ϩⲏⲧ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲕⲱ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲛⲱϩⲉ ⲉⲩⲧⲁⲙⲓⲟ ⲛⲧϭⲓⲃⲱⲧⲟⲥ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁϩⲉⲛⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲡⲱⲧ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲣⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲟⲩϫⲁⲓ ⲉⲡⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲩⲙⲉϩ ϣⲙⲟⲩⲛⲉ ⲙⲯⲩⲭⲏ
21 The resemblance of which, even baptism, doth also now save us, (not the outward cleansing of filth from the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲧⲩⲡⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲥⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩϫⲟ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲉⲓⲱ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲟⲣϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲧⲥⲁⲣⲝ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲥⲩⲛⲉⲓⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲥ ⲛⲁϩⲣⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲧⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲓⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ
22 who is gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to Him.
