Ruth 1
1 In the days when the judges judged, there was a famine in the land. A certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to live in the country of Moab with his wife and his two sons.
இஸ்ரயேல் நாட்டில் நீதிபதிகள் ஆளுகை செய்த காலத்தில் பஞ்சம் உண்டாயிற்று. அப்பொழுது யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேமைச் சேர்ந்த ஒரு மனிதன் தன் மனைவியுடனும், தன் இரண்டு மகன்களுடனும் கொஞ்சக்காலம் மோவாப் நாட்டில் வாழ்வதற்காக அங்கு போனான்.
2 The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi. The names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Judah. They came into the country of Moab and lived there.
அந்த மனிதனின் பெயர் எலிமெலேக்கு. அவன் மனைவி பெயர் நகோமி. அவனுடைய இரண்டு மகன்களின் பெயர்கள் மக்லோன், கிலியோன் என்பதாகும். அவர்கள் யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேமைச் சேர்ந்த எப்பிராத்தியராவர். அவர்கள் அங்கிருந்து புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று மோவாபிலே குடியேறினார்கள்.
3 Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left with her two sons.
அங்கே நகோமியின் கணவன், எலிமெலேக் இறந்தான், அப்பொழுது நகோமி தன் இரண்டு மகன்களுடனும் தனித்து விடப்பட்டாள்.
4 They took for themselves wives of the women of Moab. The name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other was Ruth. They lived there about ten years.
நகோமியின் மகன்கள் மோவாபிய பெண்களைத் திருமணம் செய்துகொண்டார்கள். ஒருவன் ஒர்பாள் என்பவளையும், மற்றவன் ரூத் என்பவளையும் திருமணம் செய்தனர். அங்கு கிட்டத்தட்ட பத்து வருடங்கள் வாழ்ந்தனர்.
5 Mahlon and Chilion both died, and the woman was bereaved of her two children and of her husband.
அதன்பின் மக்லோன், கிலியோன் ஆகிய இருவரும் இறந்துபோனார்கள். இப்படியாக நகோமி தன் கணவனையும் தன் மகன்கள் இருவரையும் இழந்து தனியாக விடப்பட்டாள்.
6 Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab; for she had heard in the country of Moab how the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.
யெகோவா தம் மக்களுக்கு உணவளித்து உதவி செய்கிறார் என்பதை நகோமி மோவாப் நாட்டில் இருக்கும்போது கேள்விப்பட்டாள். அப்பொழுது அவள் தன் இரு மருமகள்களுடன் அங்கிருந்து தனது நாட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிச்செல்வதற்கு ஆயத்தம் செய்தாள்.
7 She went out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her. They went on the way to return to the land of Judah.
அவள் தன் மருமகள்களான ஒர்பாள், ரூத் என்பவர்களுடன் தான் வசித்த நாட்டைவிட்டு புறப்பட்டு, யூதா நாட்டை நோக்கிப் போகும்படி புறப்பட்டாள்.
8 Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each of you to her mother’s house. May the LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me.
அப்பொழுது நகோமி தன் இரு மருமகள்களிடமும், “நீங்கள் இருவரும் உங்கள் தாய் வீட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிப்போங்கள். இறந்துபோன உங்கள் கணவர்களுக்கும், எனக்கும் நீங்கள் இரக்கம் காட்டியதுபோல் யெகோவா உங்களுக்கும் இரக்கம் காட்டுவாராக.
9 May the LORD grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband.” Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices, and wept.
யெகோவா உங்கள் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் வேறு கணவனைத் தந்து அவர்கள் வீட்டிலே நீங்கள் ஆறுதலாய் வாழ்ந்திருக்க உதவுவாராக” என்று சொல்லி. நகோமி அவர்களை முத்தமிட்டாள். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் சத்தமிட்டு அழுது
10 They said to her, “No, but we will return with you to your people.”
அவளிடம், “நாங்கள் உங்களுடனேயே, உங்களுடைய மக்களிடத்திற்கே வருவோம்” என்று சொன்னார்கள்.
11 Naomi said, “Go back, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
நகோமியோ அவர்களிடம், “என் மகள்களே. நீங்கள் உங்கள் வீட்டிற்குத் திரும்பிப்போங்கள்; நீங்கள் ஏன் என்னுடனே வரவேண்டும்? நான் இனிமேலும் மகன்களைப் பெறுவேனோ? அவர்கள் உங்களுக்கு கணவர்களாக முடியுமோ?
12 Go back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, ‘I have hope,’ if I should even have a husband tonight, and should also bear sons,
என் மகள்களே; உங்கள் வீட்டிற்கு திரும்பிப்போங்கள். எனக்கு வயது போய்விட்டதனால் இன்னொருவனைக் கணவனாக அடையவும் முடியாது. இனியும் எனக்குப் பிள்ளைகள் பிறக்கும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையிருந்து, இன்றிரவு நான் ஒரு கணவனுக்கு வாழ்க்கைப்பட்டு, மகன்களைப் பெற்றாலும்,
13 would you then wait until they were grown? Would you then refrain from having husbands? No, my daughters, for it grieves me seriously for your sakes, for the LORD’s hand has gone out against me.”
நீங்கள் அவர்கள் வளர்ந்து பெரியவர்களாகும்வரை காத்திருப்பீர்களோ? அவர்களுக்காகத் திருமணம் செய்யாது தனித்திருப்பீர்களோ? வேண்டாம் என் மகள்களே. உங்களைவிட எனது துக்கம் அதிகமாயிருக்கிறது. ஏனெனில் யெகோவாவின் கை எனக்கெதிராக நீட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது!” என்றாள்.
14 They lifted up their voices and wept again; then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth stayed with her.
இதைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் திரும்பவும் அழுதார்கள். ஒர்பாளோ தன் மாமியை முத்தமிட்டு அவளிடமிருந்து விடைபெற்றுத் திரும்பிச்சென்றாள், ஆனால் ரூத்தோ அவளைப் பற்றிப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டாள்.
15 She said, “Behold, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her god. Follow your sister-in-law.”
அப்பொழுது நகோமி அவளிடம், “பார், உன் சகோதரி தன் மக்களிடத்திற்கும், தன் தெய்வங்களிடத்திற்கும் திரும்பிப் போகிறாள். நீயும் அவளுடன் திரும்பிப்போ” என்றாள்.
16 Ruth said, “Don’t urge me to leave you, and to return from following you, for where you go, I will go; and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God.
ஆனால் ரூத் அவளிடம், “நான் உங்களைவிட்டுப் போகவோ, திரும்பவும் என் வீட்டிற்குப் போகவோ என்னை வற்புறுத்த வேண்டாம்; ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் போகும் இடத்திற்கு நானும் வருவேன்; நீங்கள் தங்கும் இடத்தில் நானும் தங்குவேன்; உங்கள் மக்களே எனது மக்களாயிருப்பார்கள். உங்கள் இறைவனே என் இறைவனாயிருப்பார்.
17 Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.”
நீங்கள் சாகும் இடத்தில் நானும் சாவேன், அங்கேயே நான் அடக்கம் செய்யப்படுவேன். மரணத்தைத் தவிர வேறேதாவது உங்களையும், என்னையும் பிரித்தால் யெகோவா அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் என்னைத் தண்டிக்கட்டும்” என்றாள்.
18 When Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.
ரூத் தன்னுடன் வருவதற்கு மனவுறுதியாயிருப்பதைக் கண்ட நகோமி, அதற்குப் பின்னும் அவளை வற்புறுத்தவில்லை.
19 So they both went until they came to Bethlehem. When they had come to Bethlehem, all the city was excited about them, and they asked, “Is this Naomi?”
எனவே அந்த இரு பெண்களும் தொடர்ந்து பெத்லெகேம்வரை பயணம் செய்தார்கள். அவர்கள் பெத்லெகேமுக்கு வந்தபோது, அவர்களைக்குறித்து பட்டணத்து மக்கள் எல்லோரும் பரபரப்படைந்தார்கள். பெண்களோ வியப்புற்று, “இவள் நகோமியாயிருக்குமோ?” என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.
20 She said to them, “Don’t call me Naomi. Call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
அப்பொழுது அவள் அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் என்னை நகோமி, என்று அழைக்கவேண்டாம். என்னை மாரா என்றழையுங்கள். ஏனெனில் எல்லாம் வல்லவர் என் வாழ்வை மிகக் கசப்படையச் செய்துள்ளார்.
21 I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?”
நான் நிறைவுள்ளவளாகப் போனேன்; ஆனால் யெகோவாவோ என்னை வெறுமையாகவே திருப்பிக் கொண்டுவந்துள்ளார். இப்படியிருக்க நீங்கள் ஏன் என்னை நகோமி என்று அழைக்கவேண்டும்? யெகோவா என்னைத் துன்புறுத்தினார். எல்லாம் வல்லவர் என்மேல் அவலத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்தார்” என்றாள்.
22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the country of Moab. They came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
இவ்வாறு நகோமி தன் மருமகளான மோவாபிய பெண் ரூத்துடன் மோவாபிலிருந்து பெத்லெகேமுக்குத் திரும்பிவந்தாள். அப்பொழுது வாற்கோதுமை அறுவடை தொடங்கியிருந்தது.
