< Psalms 78 >

1 A contemplation by Asaph. Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.
Oluyimba lwa Asafu. Muwulire okuyigiriza kwange mmwe abantu bange, musseeyo omwoyo ku bye njogera.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,
Ndyogerera mu ngero, njogere ebintu eby’ekyama ebyaliwo edda,
3 which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
ebintu bye twawulira ne tumanya; ebintu bajjajjaffe bye baatutegeeza.
4 We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.
Tetuubikisenga baana baabwe, naye tunaabuuliranga buli mulembe ogunnaddangawo ebikolwa bya Mukama eby’ekitalo, n’amaanyi ge n’ebyamagero bye yakola.
5 For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;
Yawa Yakobo ebiragiro, n’ateeka amateeka mu Isirayiri; n’alagira bajjajjaffe babiyigirizenga abaana baabwe,
6 that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,
ab’omu mulembe oguliddirira nabo babimanye, n’abaana abalizaalibwa, nabo babiyigirize abaana baabwe,
7 that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,
balyoke beesigenga Katonda, era balemenga okwerabira ebyo byonna Katonda bye yakola; naye bagonderenga ebiragiro bye.
8 and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.
Baleme okuba nga bajjajjaabwe, omulembe ogw’abakakanyavu era abajeemu abatali bawulize, ab’emyoyo egitali myesigwa eri Katonda.
9 The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
Abaana ba Efulayimu abaalina obusaale obw’okulwanyisa, naye ne badduka mu lutalo,
10 They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk by his Torah.
tebaatuukiriza ndagaano ya Katonda; ne bagaana okugondera amateeka ga Mukama.
11 They forgot his doings, his wondrous deeds that he had shown them.
Beerabira ebyo bye yakola, n’ebyamagero bye yabalaga.
12 He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
Yakola ebyamagero mu maaso ga bajjajjaabwe nga bali mu nsi y’e Misiri, mu kitundu kya Zowani.
13 He split the sea, and caused them to pass through. He made the waters stand as a heap.
Ennyanja yajaawulamu, amazzi ne geetuuma ebbali n’ebbali ng’ebisenge.
14 In the daytime he also led them with a cloud, and all night with a light of fire.
Emisana yabakulemberanga n’ekire, n’ekiro n’abakulemberanga n’empagi ey’omuliro.
15 He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.
Yayasa enjazi mu ddungu, n’abawa amazzi amangi agaali ng’agava mu buziba bw’ennyanja.
16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
Yaggya ensulo mu lwazi, n’akulukusa amazzi ng’emigga.
17 Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.
Naye bo ne beeyongera bweyongezi okwonoona, ne bajeemera Oyo Ali Waggulu Ennyo nga bali mu ddungu.
18 They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.
Ne bagezesa Katonda mu bugenderevu, nga bamusaba emmere gye baalulunkanira.
19 Yes, they spoke against God. They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
Era ne boogera ku Katonda; nga bagamba nti, “Katonda asobola okutuliisiza mu ddungu?
20 Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”
Weewaawo yakuba olwazi, amazzi ne gakulukuta ng’emigga; naye anaatuwa emmere? Anaawa abantu be ennyama?”
21 Therefore the LORD heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,
Awo Mukama bwe yawulira ebyo n’asunguwala nnyo; omuliro gwe ne gwaka ku Yakobo, n’obusungu bwe ne bubuubuukira ku Isirayiri.
22 because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation [yeshuat].
Kubanga tebakkiriza Katonda, era tebeesiga maanyi ge agalokola.
23 Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.
Naye era n’alagira eggulu; n’aggulawo enzigi z’omu ggulu.
24 He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.
N’abaweereza maanu okuva mu ggulu balye. Yabawa emmere eyava mu ggulu.
25 Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.
Abantu ne balya emmere ya bamalayika; Mukama n’abawanga emmere nnyingi eyabamaliranga ddala.
26 He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.
N’akunsa empewo ey’Ebuvanjuba okuva mu ggulu, era n’aweereza empewo okuva obukiika obwaddyo n’amaanyi ge.
27 He also rained meat on them as the dust, winged birds as the sand of the seas.
Yatonnyesa ennyama okuva mu ggulu ennyingi ennyo ng’enfuufu; n’abaweereza n’obunyonyi enkumu ennyo ng’omusenyu gw’okulubalama lw’ennyanja.
28 He let them fall in the middle of their camp, around their habitations.
Ebyokulya ebyo n’abisuula wakati mu lusiisira lwabwe; okwetooloola eweema zaabwe.
29 So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.
Awo ne balya ne bakkuta nnyo; kubanga yabawa kye baali bayaayaanira.
30 They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,
Naye bwe baali nga bakyalulunkana, nga n’emmere ekyali mu kamwa kaabwe,
31 when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their strongest, and struck down the young men of Israel.
obusungu bwa Mukama ne bubabuubuukirako, n’abattamu abasajja abasinga amaanyi; abavubuka ba Isirayiri ne bazikirizibwa.
32 For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.
Naye newaakubadde ebyo byonna byabatuukako, kyokka beeyongera okwonoona; newaakubadde nga yabakolera ebyamagero, naye tebakkiriza.
33 Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
Mukama kyeyava asala ku myaka gyabwe, n’abaleetako okuzikirizibwa okw’amangu era okw’entiisa.
34 When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.
Bwe yattanga abamu ku bo, ne balyoka bamunoonya, ne beenenya ne badda gy’ali.
35 They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.
Ne bajjukira nti Katonda lwe Lwazi lwabwe; era nti Katonda Ali Waggulu Ennyo ye Mununuzi waabwe.
36 But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
Kyokka baamuwaananga n’emimwa gyabwe, nga bwe bamulimba n’ennimi zaabwe,
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
so tebaali beesigwa mu mitima gyabwe, era nga tebatuukiriza ndagaano ye.
38 But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.
Naye ye n’abakwatirwanga ekisa n’abasonyiwanga, n’atabazikiriza; emirundi n’emirundi ng’akoma ku busungu bwe, n’atabamalirako kiruyi kye okubazikiririza ddala.
39 He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.
Yajjukira nga baali mubiri bubiri; ng’empewo egenda n’etedda!
40 How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!
Baamujeemeranga nnyo bwe baali mu ddungu; ne banakuwaza nnyo omutima gwe.
41 They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
Ne baddamu ne bakema Katonda, ne banyiiza Omutukuvu wa Isirayiri.
42 They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;
Tebajjukira buyinza bwe; wadde olunaku lwe yabanunulirako mu mikono gy’omulabe;
43 how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,
bwe yalaga obubonero bwe mu Misiri, n’ebyamagero bye mu kitundu kya Zowani,
44 he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.
yafuula amazzi g’emigga gyabwe omusaayi, ne batanywa mazzi gaagyo.
45 He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
Yabaweereza agabinja g’ensowera ne zibaluma, n’abaweereza n’ebikere ne bibadaaza.
46 He also gave their increase to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.
Ebirime n’ebibala byabwe yabiwa enzige ne bulusejjera.
47 He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.
Yazikiriza emizabbibu gyabwe n’omuzira, era ne gukuba n’emisukomooli gyabwe.
48 He also gave over their livestock to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
Yatta ente zaabwe n’amayinja g’omuzira; n’ebisibo byabwe ne bittibwa eraddu.
49 He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.
Obusungu bwe obungi bwababuubuukirako, n’ekiruyi kye n’obukambwe ne bibamalamu ensa. N’alyoka abasindikira ekibinja kya bamalayika okubazikiriza.
50 He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,
Yabalaga obusungu bwe, n’atabasonyiwa kufa, n’abasindikira kawumpuli.
51 and struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.
Yatta ababereberye bonna ab’omu Misiri, nga be bavubuka ab’ebibala ebibereberye eby’omu nnyumba ya Kaamu.
52 But he led out his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
N’alyoka afulumya abantu be ng’endiga, n’abatambuza mu ddungu ng’ekisibo.
53 He led them safely, so that they weren’t afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
N’abaluŋŋamya mu mirembe nga tebatya, ennyanja n’esaanyaawo abalabe baabwe.
54 He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken.
N’abatuusa ku nsalo y’ensi entukuvu; ku lusozi lwe yeewangulira, n’omukono gwe ogwa ddyo.
55 He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
Yagobamu amawanga nga balaba, n’abagabanyiza ebitundu by’ensi eyo; n’atuuza bulungi ebika bya Isirayiri mu maka gaabyo.
56 Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies,
Naye era ne bakema Katonda; ne bamujeemera oyo Ali Waggulu Ennyo, ne bagaana okugondera ebiragiro bye.
57 but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were twisted like a deceitful bow.
Ne bamuvaako ne baba bakuusa nga bajjajjaabwe bwe baali, ne baggwaamu obwesigwa ng’omutego gw’obusaale omukyamu.
58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.
Kubanga baasunguwaza Katonda olw’ebifo ebigulumivu bo bye beegunjira okusinzizangamu, ne bamukwasa obuggya olwa bakatonda baabwe abalala.
59 When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel,
Katonda bwe yabiraba n’asunguwala nnyo, n’aviira ddala ku Isirayiri.
60 so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,
N’ava mu weema ey’omu Siiro, eweema mwe yabeeranga ng’ali mu bantu be.
61 and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.
N’awaayo amaanyi ge mu busibe, n’ekitiibwa kye n’akiwaayo eri omulabe.
62 He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.
Abantu be yabaleka ne battibwa n’ekitala, n’asunguwalira omugabo gwe.
63 Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.
Omuliro ne gusaanyaawo abavubuka baabwe abalenzi, ne bawala baabwe ne babulwa ow’okubawasa.
64 Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.
Bakabona baabwe battibwa n’ekitala, ne bannamwandu baabwe tebaasobola kubakungubagira.
65 Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.
Awo Mukama n’alyoka agolokoka ng’ali nga ava mu tulo, ng’omusajja omuzira azuukuka mu tulo ng’atamidde.
66 He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.
N’akuba abalabe be ne badduka; n’abaswaza emirembe gyonna.
67 Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,
Mukama yaleka ennyumba ya Yusufu, n’ekika kya Efulayimu n’atakironda;
68 But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.
naye n’alonda ekika kya Yuda, lwe lusozi Sayuuni lwe yayagala.
69 He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.
N’azimba awatukuvu we ne wagulumira ng’ensozi empanvu; ne waba ng’ensi gye yanyweza emirembe gyonna.
70 He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;
Yalonda Dawudi omuweereza we; n’amuggya mu kulunda endiga.
71 from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.
Ave mu kuliisa endiga, naye alundenga Yakobo, be bantu be, era alabirirenga Isirayiri omugabo gwe, gwe yeerondera.
72 So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
N’abalabirira n’omutima ogutaliimu bukuusa, n’abakulembera n’amagezi g’emikono gye.
