Deuteronomy 19
1 When the LORD your God cuts off the nations whose land the LORD your God gives you, and you succeed them and dwell in their cities and in their houses,
Gdy PAN, twój Bóg, wytępi narody, których ziemię ci daje PAN, twój Bóg, a posiądziesz ją i zamieszkasz w ich miastach i w ich domach;
2 you shall set apart three cities for yourselves in the middle of your land, which the LORD your God gives you to possess.
Wydzielisz sobie trzy miasta pośród twojej ziemi, którą PAN, twój Bóg, daje ci w posiadanie;
3 You shall prepare the way, and divide the borders of your land which the LORD your God causes you to inherit into three parts, that every man slayer may flee there.
Przygotujesz sobie drogę i podzielisz na trzy części obszar twojej ziemi, którą PAN, twój Bóg, daje ci w posiadanie, aby mógł tam uciekać każdy zabójca.
4 This is the case of the man slayer who shall flee there and live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him in time past—
A to będzie prawo zabójcy, który będzie mógł tam uciec, aby pozostać przy życiu: Kto zabije swego bliźniego nieumyślnie, a wcześniej nie nienawidził go;
5 as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to chop wood and his hand swings the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and hits his neighbor so that he dies—he shall flee to one of these cities and live.
Na przykład gdyby ktoś szedł ze swym bliźnim do lasu ścinać drzewa, uchwycił ręką siekierę, by ściąć drzewo, a siekiera odpadła z toporzyska i trafiła jego bliźniego tak, że umarłby, ucieknie on do jednego z tych miast, aby pozostał przy życiu;
6 Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue the man slayer while hot anger is in his heart and overtake him, because the way is long, and strike him mortally, even though he was not worthy of death, because he didn’t hate him in time past.
Aby mściciel krwi, gdy jego serce się rozpali, nie ścigał zabójcy i nie dogonił go na dalekiej drodze, i nie zabił go, ponieważ nie zasłużył on na śmierć, gdyż wcześniej go nie nienawidził.
7 Therefore I command you to set apart three cities for yourselves.
Dlatego nakazuję ci: Wydzielisz sobie trzy miasta;
8 If the LORD your God enlarges your border, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;
A gdy PAN, twój Bóg, rozszerzy twoje granice, jak poprzysiągł twoim ojcom, i da ci całą ziemię, którą obiecał dać twoim ojcom;
9 and if you keep all this commandment to do it, which I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to walk ever in his ways, then you shall add three cities more for yourselves, in addition to these three.
Jeśli będziesz przestrzegał i wypełniał wszystkie te przykazania, które ja ci dziś nakazuję, abyś miłował PANA, swego Boga, i chodził jego drogami po wszystkie dni, wtedy dodasz sobie jeszcze trzy miasta do tamtych trzech miast;
10 This is so that innocent blood will not be shed in the middle of your land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, leaving blood guilt on you.
Aby nie była wylana krew niewinna pośrodku twojej ziemi, którą PAN, twój Bóg, daje ci w dziedzictwo, aby krew na tobie nie ciążyła.
11 But if any man hates his neighbor, lies in wait for him, rises up against him, strikes him mortally so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities;
Ale jeśli ktoś nienawidzi swego bliźniego i będzie na niego czyhał, powstanie przeciw niemu i śmiertelnie go uderzy, a ten umrze, a potem ucieknie do jednego z tych miast;
12 then the elders of his city shall send and bring him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
Wtedy starsi tego miasta poślą [po niego] i sprowadzą go stamtąd, i wydadzą go w ręce mściciela krwi, aby poniósł śmierć.
13 Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall purge the innocent blood from Israel that it may go well with you.
Twoje oko nie zlituje się nad nim, lecz usuniesz niewinną krew z Izraela, aby ci się dobrze powodziło.
14 You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which they of old time have set, in your inheritance which you shall inherit, in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess.
Nie przesuniesz granicy swego bliźniego założonej przez przodków w twoim dziedzictwie, które posiądziesz w ziemi, którą PAN, twój Bóg, daje ci w posiadanie.
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin that he sins. At the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.
Jeden świadek nie może powstać przeciwko człowiekowi w jakiejkolwiek nieprawości lub w jakimkolwiek grzechu ze wszystkich grzechów, jakie ktoś popełni. Na podstawie zeznania dwóch lub trzech świadków oparte będzie [każde] słowo.
16 If an unrighteous witness rises up against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,
Jeśli fałszywy świadek powstanie przeciwko komuś, by oskarżać go o przestępstwo;
17 then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;
Wtedy obaj mężczyźni, którzy mają spór, staną przed PANEM i przed kapłanami, i sędziami, którzy będą [sprawować] w tym czasie [urząd];
18 and the judges shall make diligent inquisition; and behold, if the witness is a false witness, and has testified falsely against his brother,
I sędziowie dokładnie zbadają [sprawę]. Jeśli się okaże, że ten świadek jest fałszywym świadkiem, że złożył fałszywe zeznanie przeciwko swemu bratu;
19 then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother. So you shall remove the evil from among you.
Uczynicie mu tak, jak on zamierzał uczynić swemu bratu. I usuniesz zło spośród siebie.
20 Those who remain shall hear, and fear, and will never again commit any such evil among you.
A pozostali usłyszą o tym, zlękną się i nie dopuszczą już takiego złego czynu pośród ciebie.
21 Your eyes shall not pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Twoje oko się nie zlituje: życie za życie, oko za oko, ząb za ząb, ręka za rękę, noga za nogę.
