2 Kings 10

1 Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria, to the rulers of Jezreel, even the elders, and to those who brought up Ahab’s sons, saying,

ইত্যবসরে শমরিয়ায় আহাব কুলের সত্তরজন ছেলে ছিল। তাই যেহূ কয়েকটি চিঠি লিখে সেগুলি শমরিয়ায়: যিষ্রিয়েলের কর্মকর্তাদের, প্রাচীনদের ও যারা আহাবের সন্তানদের অভিভাবক ছিলেন, তাদের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন। তিনি বললেন,

2 “Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master’s sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and armor,

“আপনাদের কাছে আপনাদের মনিবের ছেলেরা আছে, এবং রথ ও ঘোড়া, সুরক্ষিত নগর ও অস্ত্রশস্ত্রও আছে। এখন যেই না এই চিঠি আপনাদের কাছে পৌঁছাবে,

3 select the best and fittest of your master’s sons, set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.”

আপনাদের মনিবের ছেলেদের মধ্যে যে সেরা ও সবচেয়ে উপযুক্ত, তাকে তক্ষুনি তার বাবার সিংহাসনে বসিয়ে দেবেন। পরে আপনারা আপনাদের মনিবের কুলের হয়ে যুদ্ধ করুন।”

4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, “Behold, the two kings didn’t stand before him! How then shall we stand?”

কিন্তু তারা ভয় পেয়ে বললেন, “দুজন রাজা যখন তাঁকে বাধা দিতে পারেননি, তখন আমরা কীভাবে তাঁকে বাধা দেব?”

5 He who was over the household, and he who was over the city, the elders also, and those who raised the children, sent to Jehu, saying, “We are your servants, and will do all that you ask us. We will not make any man king. You do that which is good in your eyes.”

তাই রাজপ্রাসাদের প্রশাসনিক কর্তা, নগরের শাসনকর্তা, প্রাচীনেরা ও অভিভাবকেরা যেহূকে এই খবর পাঠালেন: “আমরা আপনারই দাস এবং আপনি আমাদের যা যা বলবেন, আমরা তাই করব। আমরা কাউকে রাজা নিযুক্ত করব না; আপনার যা ভালো বলে মনে হয়, তাই করুন।”

6 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, “If you are on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men who are your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time.” Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up.

পরে যেহূ তাদের কাছে দ্বিতীয় একটি চিঠি লিখে বললেন, “আপনারা যদি আমার পক্ষে আছেন ও আমার কথার বাধ্য হতে চান, তবে আপনাদের মনিবের ছেলেদের মুণ্ডুগুলি নিয়ে আগামীকাল ঠিক এই সময়ে যিষ্রিয়েলে আমার কাছে চলে আসুন।” ইত্যবসরে রাজপুত্রদের মধ্যে সত্তরজন, নগরের সামনের সারির লোকদের সাথে ছিল ও তারাই তাদের দেখাশোনা করতেন।

7 When the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and killed them, even seventy people, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Jezreel.

সেই চিঠি সেখানে পৌছানোমাত্র তারা সেই রাজপুত্রদের ধরে সত্তর জনকেই হত্যা করলেন। তারা তাদের মুণ্ডুগুলি ঝুড়িতে ভরে যিষ্রিয়েলে যেহূর কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।

8 A messenger came and told him, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.” He said, “Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning.”

একজন দূত সেখানে পৌঁছে যেহূকে বলল, “রাজপুত্রদের মুণ্ডুগুলি আনা হয়েছে।” তখন যেহূ আদেশ দিলেন, “সকাল পর্যন্ত সেগুলি দুটি স্তূপে ভাগ করে নগরের সিংহদরজার মুখে সাজিয়ে রাখো।”

9 In the morning, he went out and stood, and said to all the people, “You are righteous. Behold, I conspired against my master and killed him, but who killed all these?

পরদিন সকালে যেহূ উঠে বাইরে গেলেন। তিনি সব লোকজনের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে বললেন, “তোমরা তো নির্দোষ। আমিই আমার মনিবের বিরুদ্ধে ষড়যন্ত্র করে তাঁকে মেরে ফেলেছিলাম, কিন্তু এদের কে হত্যা করেছে?

10 Know now that nothing will fall to the earth of the LORD’s word, which the LORD spoke concerning Ahab’s house. For the LORD has done that which he spoke by his servant Elijah.”

তাই জেনে রাখো, আহাব কুলের বিরুদ্ধে বলা সদাপ্রভুর একটি কথাও ব্যর্থ হবে না। সদাপ্রভু তাঁর দাস এলিয়র মাধ্যমে যা যা ঘোষণা করলেন, সব সেইমতোই করেছেন।”

11 So Jehu struck all that remained of Ahab’s house in Jezreel, with all his great men, his familiar friends, and his priests, until he left him no one remaining.

অতএব যিষ্রিয়েলে আহাব কুলের অবশিষ্ট সকলকে, তথা তাঁর সব মুখ্য লোকজনকে, ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধুবান্ধব ও যাজকদের যেহূ হত্যা করলেন, এবং তাঁর কোনও বংশধরকে ছাড় দেননি।

12 He arose and departed, and went to Samaria. As he was at the shearing house of the shepherds on the way,

পরে যেহূ বের হয়ে শমরিয়ার দিকে চলে গেলেন। রাখালদের গ্রাম বেথ-একদে

13 Jehu met with the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, “Who are you?” They answered, “We are the brothers of Ahaziah. We are going down to greet the children of the king and the children of the queen.”

তিনি যিহূদার রাজা অহসিয়ের কয়েকজন আত্মীয়স্বজনের দেখা পেয়ে তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা কারা?” তারা বলল, “আমরা অহসিয়ের আত্মীয়স্বজন, এবং আমরা রাজার পরিবারের লোকজনকে ও রাজমাতাকে শুভেচ্ছা জানাতে এসেছি।”

14 He said, “Take them alive!” They took them alive, and killed them at the pit of the shearing house, even forty-two men. He didn’t leave any of them.

“ওদের জ্যান্ত অবস্থায় ধরো!” যেহূ আদেশ দিলেন। তাই তারা তাদের জ্যান্ত অবস্থায় ধরেই তাদের মধ্যে বিয়াল্লিশ জনকে বেথ-একদের কুয়োর পাশে মেরে ফেলেছিল। একজন বংশধরকেও তিনি অবশিষ্ট রাখেননি।

15 When he had departed from there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him. He greeted him, and said to him, “Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart?” Jehonadab answered, “It is.” “If it is, give me your hand.” He gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.

সেই স্থানটি ছেড়ে তিনি রেখবের ছেলে সেই যিহোনাদবের কাছে এলেন, যিনি তাঁর সাথে দেখা করতে আসছিলেন। যেহূ তাঁকে শুভেচ্ছা জানিয়ে বললেন, “আমি যেমন আপনার সাথে ঐকমত্যে আছি, আপনিও কি আমার সাথে ঐকমত্যে আছেন?” “হ্যাঁ, আছি,” যিহোনাদব উত্তর দিলেন। “যদি তাই হয়,” যেহূ বললেন, “তবে আপনার হাত বাড়িয়ে দিন।” তিনি তা করলেন, ও যেহূ তাঁকে নিজের রথে উঠিয়ে নিয়েছিলেন।

16 He said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD.” So they made him ride in his chariot.

যেহূ বললেন, “আমার সাথে আসুন ও সদাপ্রভুর জন্য আমার যে উদ্দীপনা আছে তা দেখে যান।” এই বলে তিনি তাঁকে পাশে বসিয়ে রথে চড়ে এগিয়ে গেলেন।

17 When he came to Samaria, he struck all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, until he had destroyed them, according to the LORD’s word which he spoke to Elijah.

শমরিয়ায় পৌঁছে যেহূ আহাব কুলের অবশিষ্ট সবাইকে হত্যা করলেন; এলিয়কে সদাপ্রভু যা বললেন, সেই কথানুসারে তিনি তাদের শেষ করে ফেলেছিলেন।

18 Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, “Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him much.

পরে যেহূ সব লোকজনকে একত্র করে তাদের বললেন, “আহাব বায়ালের সেবা অল্পই করলেন; যেহূ তার সেবা বেশ ভালোমতোই করবে।

19 Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Baal, all of his worshipers, and all of his priests. Let no one be absent, for I have a great sacrifice to Baal. Whoever is absent, he shall not live.” But Jehu did deceptively, intending to destroy the worshipers of Baal.

এখন তোমরা বায়ালের সব ভাববাদীকে, তার সব সেবককে ও সব যাজককে ডেকে আনো। দেখো যেন কেউ বাদ পড়ে না যায়, কারণ আমি বায়ালের জন্য বেশ বড়সড় এক যজ্ঞের ব্যবস্থা করতে চলেছি। যে কেউ অনুপস্থিত থাকবে, সে আর বাঁচবে না।” কিন্তু বায়ালের সেবকদের শেষ করে ফেলার জন্যই আসলে যেহূ ছল করে অভিনয় করছিলেন।

20 Jehu said, “Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal!” So they proclaimed it.

যেহূ বললেন, “বায়ালের সম্মানে এক সভা আহ্বান করো।” তাই তারা সভা আহ্বান করল।

21 Jehu sent through all Israel; and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that didn’t come. They came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was filled from one end to another.

পরে তারা ইস্রায়েলে সর্বত্র যেহূর এই খবর পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছিল, এবং বায়ালের সব সেবক চলে এসেছিল; একজনও অনুপস্থিত থাকেনি। যতক্ষণ না বায়ালের মন্দিরের এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্ত পর্যন্ত ভরে উঠেছিল, তারা ভিড় জমিয়েই যাচ্ছিল।

22 He said to him who kept the wardrobe, “Bring out robes for all the worshipers of Baal!” So he brought robes out to them.

যেহূ রাজপ্রাসাদের পোশাক বিভাগের রক্ষীকে বললেন, “বায়ালের সব সেবকের জন্য পোশাক নিয়ে এসো।” তাই সে তাদের জন্য পোশাক বের করে এনেছিল।

23 Jehu went with Jehonadab the son of Rechab into the house of Baal. Then he said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search, and see that none of the servants of the LORD are here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal.”

পরে যেহূ ও রেখবের ছেলে যিহোনাদব বায়ালের মন্দিরে গেলেন। যেহূ বায়ালের সেবকদের বললেন, “ভালো করে দেখে নাও, যেন এখানে তোমাদের সাথে এমন কোনও লোক না থাকে যে সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করে—শুধু বায়ালের সেবকরাই যেন থাকে।”

24 So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men outside, and said, “If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he who lets him go, his life shall be for the life of him.”

অতএব তারা বলিদান ও হোমবলি উৎসর্গ করার জন্য ভিতরে গেলেন। ইত্যবসরে যেহূ মন্দিরের বাইরে আশি জন লোককে মোতায়েন করে এই বলে তাদের সতর্ক করে দিলেন: “আমি যাদের ভার তোমাদের হাতে তুলে দিয়েছি, যদি তোমাদের মধ্যে কেউ এদের একজনকেও পালিয়ে যেতে দাও, তবে সেই পালিয়ে যাওয়া লোকের প্রাণের বদলে তারই প্রাণ যাবে।”

25 As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, “Go in and kill them! Let no one escape.” So they struck them with the edge of the sword. The guard and the captains threw the bodies out, and went to the inner shrine of the house of Baal.

যেহূ হোমবলি উৎসর্গ করার পরই রক্ষী ও কর্মকর্তাদের আদেশ দিলেন: “ভিতরে গিয়ে ওদের হত্যা করো; কেউ যেন পালাতে না পারে।” অতএব তারা তরোয়াল দিয়ে তাদের কেটে ফেলেছিল। সেই রক্ষী ও কর্মকর্তারা তাদের দেহগুলি বাইরে ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দিয়েছিল এবং পরে বায়ালের মন্দিরে দেবতার অভ্যন্তরীণ পীঠস্থানে ঢুকে পড়েছিল।

26 They brought out the pillars that were in the house of Baal and burned them.

তারা সেই পবিত্র পাথরটিকে বায়ালের মন্দিরের বাইরে বের করে সেটি পুড়িয়ে দিয়েছিল।

27 They broke down the pillar of Baal, and broke down the house of Baal, and made it a latrine, to this day.

তারা বায়ালের পবিত্র পাথরটিকে ভেঙে গুঁড়িয়ে দিয়েছিল ও বায়ালের মন্দিরটিও ছিন্নভিন্ন করে ফেলেছিল, এবং লোকেরা সেই স্থানটি আজও পর্যন্ত এক শৌচাগাররূপেই ব্যবহার করে চলেছে।

28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.

অতএব যেহূ ইস্রায়েলে বায়ালের পুজো বন্ধ করে দিলেন।

29 However, Jehu didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin—the golden calves that were in Bethel and that were in Dan.

অবশ্য তিনি নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়ামের সেইসব পাপ থেকে ফিরে আসতে পারেননি, ইস্রায়েলকে দিয়ে যারবিয়াম যেসব পাপ করিয়েছিলেন—অর্থাৎ, বেথেল ও দানে তিনি সোনার বাছুরের পুজো করলেন।

30 The LORD said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in executing that which is right in my eyes, and have done to Ahab’s house according to all that was in my heart, your descendants shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.”

সদাপ্রভু যেহূকে বললেন, “যেহেতু আমার দৃষ্টিতে যা উপযুক্ত তা করে তুমি ভালোই করেছ, এবং মনে মনে আমি যা করতে চেয়েছিলাম, আহাবের কুলের প্রতি তুমি সেসব করে দিয়েছ, তাই তোমার বংশধররা চার পুরুষ পর্যন্ত ইস্রায়েলের সিংহাসনে বসবে।”

31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin.

তবুও যেহূ মনপ্রাণ দিয়ে ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর বিধান পালনের ক্ষেত্রে মনোযোগী হননি। যারবিয়াম ইস্রায়েলকে দিয়ে যে পাপ করিয়েছিলেন, তিনি সেই পাপগুলি থেকে ফিরে আসেননি।

32 In those days the LORD began to cut away parts of Israel; and Hazael struck them in all the borders of Israel

সেই সময় থেকেই সদাপ্রভু ইস্রায়েলের মাপ ছোটো করতে শুরু করলেন। ইস্রায়েলী এলাকার এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্ত পর্যন্ত হসায়েল তাদের দমন করে রেখেছিলেন—

33 from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.

জর্ডন নদীর পূর্বপারে গিলিয়দের সব এলাকায় (গাদ, রূবেণ ও মনঃশির অধিকারভুক্ত অঞ্চলে), অর্ণোন গিরিখাতের পাশে অবস্থিত অরোয়ের থেকে শুরু করে গিলিয়দ হয়ে বাশন পর্যন্ত সর্বত্র।

34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

যেহূর রাজত্বকালের অন্যান্য সব ঘটনা, তিনি যা যা করলেন, তাঁর সব কীর্তি, সেসবের বিবরণ কি ইস্রায়েলের রাজাদের ইতিহাস-গ্রন্থে লেখা নেই?

35 Jehu slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria. Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place.

যেহূ তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের সাথে চিরবিশ্রামে শায়িত হলেন ও শমরিয়ায় তাঁকে কবর দেওয়া হল। তাঁর ছেলে যিহোয়াহস রাজারূপে তাঁর স্থলাভিষিক্ত হলেন।

36 The time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.

আটাশ বছর শমরিয়ায় যেহূ ইস্রায়েলের উপর রাজত্ব করলেন।
