< 1 Yochanan 3 >

1 See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.
ⲁ̅ⲁⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲁⲅⲁⲡⲏ ⳿ⲛⲁϣ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲓⲏ ⲁϥⲧⲏ ⲓⲥ ⲛⲁⲛ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲫⲓⲱⲧ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲥⲉⲙⲟⲩϯ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟⲛ ϫⲉ ⲛⲓϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ϩⲁⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲉⲑⲃⲉⲫⲁⲓ ⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲏⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲩⲱⲛϥ.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is.
ⲃ̅ⲛⲁⲙⲉⲛⲣⲁϯ ϯⲛⲟⲩ ⳿ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ϩⲁⲛϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁⲧⲉϥⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲛⲁⲉⲣ ⲁϣ ⳿ⲛⲣⲏϯ ⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⲇⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁϥϣⲁⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁⲉⲣ ⲡⲉϥⲣⲏϯ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁⲩ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⲉⲧⲉϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
3 Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
ⲅ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲧⲁⲓϩⲉⲗⲡⲓⲥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲟⲧϥ ϣⲁϥⲧⲟⲩⲃⲟϥ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϧⲣⲏⲓ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲫⲏ ⲟⲩⲁⲃ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
4 Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
ⲇ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⳿ϥ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⲟⲛ ⳿ⲛϯ⳿ⲁⲛⲟⲙⲓ⳿ⲁ ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲧ⳿ⲁⲛⲟⲙⲓ⳿ⲁ ⲧⲉ.
5 You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and no sin is in him.
ⲉ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲁ ⲫⲏ ⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲉⲗ ⲛⲓⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲃⲓ ϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ ⲁⲛ.
6 Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.
ⲋ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁϥⲉⲣⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲛⲁⲩ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲩⲱⲛϥ.
7 Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
ⲍ̅ⲛⲓ⳿ⲁⲗⲱⲟⲩ⳿ⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲛ⳿ⲑⲣⲉ ⳿ϩⲗⲓ ⲥⲉⲣⲉⲙ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲫⲏⲉⲧ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛϯⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲫⲏ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲡⲉ.
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.
ⲏ̅ⲫⲏⲉⲧ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⳿ϥⲉⲣⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲓⲥϫⲉⲛ ϩⲏ ⲉⲑⲃⲉⲫⲁⲓ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⳿ⲡϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲫϯ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲃⲉⲗ ⲛⲓ⳿ϩⲃⲏⲟⲩⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ.
9 Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him, and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.
ⲑ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧⲁⲩⲙⲁⲥϥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁϥⲉⲣⲛⲟⲃⲓ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲟⲩ⳿ϫⲣⲟϫ ⳿ⲛⲧⲁϥ ϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⳿ϣϫⲟⲙ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲉⲣⲛⲟⲃⲓ ϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲁⲩⲙⲁⲥϥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ.
10 In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
ⲓ̅ϧⲉⲛ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲥⲉⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲛⲓϣⲏ ⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲛⲓϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧⲉ⳿ⲛ⳿ϥ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉ⳿ⲛ⳿ϥⲙⲉⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲁⲛ.
11 For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another—
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ϫⲉ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲓⲱϣ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲁⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲥⲟⲑⲙⲉϥ ⲓⲥϫⲉⲛ ϩⲏ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲙⲉⲛⲣⲉ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲏⲟⲩ.
12 unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲕⲁⲧⲁ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⲁⲛ ⳿ⲛⲕⲁⲓⲛ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲡⲉⲧϩⲱⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥϧⲱⲧⲉⲃ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲉⲑⲃⲉⲟⲩ ⲁϥϧⲱⲧⲉⲃ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉϥ⳿ϩⲃⲏ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲓ ⲛⲁⲩϩⲱⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲁ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲇⲉ ϩⲁⲛⲇⲓⲕⲉⲟⲛ ⲛⲉ.
13 Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲉⲣ⳿ϣⲫⲏⲣⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁ⳿ⲥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲓⲥϫⲉ ⳿ϥⲙⲟⲥϯ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ.
14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅⳿ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧⲉⲃ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲫⲙⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉϧⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲡⲱⲛϧ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲁⲅⲁⲡⲁⲛ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓ⳿ⲥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉ⳿ⲛ⳿ϥⲉⲣⲁⲅⲁⲡⲁⲛ ⲁⲛ ⲁϥϣⲟⲡ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲫⲙⲟⲩ.
15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him. (aiōnios g166)
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲑⲙⲟⲥϯ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲟⲩϧⲁⲧⲉⲃ ⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ϧⲁⲧⲉⲃ ⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲱⲛϧ ⳿ⲛⲉⲛⲉϩ ϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧⲟⲩ. (aiōnios g166)
16 By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ϧⲉⲛ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲁⲛⲥⲟⲩⲉⲛ ϯⲁⲅⲁⲡⲏ ϫⲉ ⲁ ⲫⲏ ⲭⲱ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲯⲩⲭⲏ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϩⲣⲏⲓ ⳿ⲉϫⲱⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ϩⲱⲛ ⲥⲉ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲡϣⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲭⲱ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲯⲩⲭⲏ ⳿ⲉϫⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲛⲉⲣⲏⲟⲩ.
17 But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲫⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛⲧⲁϥ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲛϧ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲁⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲛⲁⲩ ⳿ⲉⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲉϥⲉⲣ⳿ⲭⲣⲓⲁ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲙⲁϣⲑⲁⲙ ⳿ⲛⲛⲉϥⲙⲉⲧϣⲁⲛ⳿ⲑⲙⲁϧⲧ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲁⲣⲟϥ ⲡⲱⲥ ϯⲁⲅⲁⲡⲏ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲓ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ.
18 My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲛⲁϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲛ⳿ⲑⲣⲉⲛⲙⲉⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲡⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲫⲗⲁⲥ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲡϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲉⲙ ϯⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ.
19 And by this we know that we are of the truth and persuade our hearts before him,
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ϧⲉⲛ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ϩⲁⲛⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ϯⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁⲑⲱⲧ ⲡⲉⲛϩⲏⲧ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥ⳿ⲙⲑⲟ.
20 because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
ⲕ̅ϫⲉ ⲉϣⲱⲡ ⲁⲣⲉϣⲁⲛ ⲡⲉⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲣⲕⲁⲧⲁⲅⲓⲛⲱⲥⲕⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲟⲩⲛⲓϣϯ ⲡⲉ ⲫϯ ⳿ⲉϩⲟⲧⲉ ⲡⲉⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ϥⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲛϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ.
21 Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲁⲙⲉⲛⲣⲁϯ ⲉϣⲱⲡ ⲁⲣⲉ⳿ϣⲧⲉⲙ ⲡⲉⲛϩⲏ ⲧ ⲉⲣⲕⲁⲧⲁⲅⲓⲛⲱⲥⲕⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲟⲩⲟⲛⲧⲁⲛ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲡⲁⲣⲣⲏⲥⲓⲁ ϧⲁⲧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ.
22 so whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁⲉⲣⲉⲧⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁϭⲓⲧϥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲟⲧϥ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲛ⳿ⲁⲣⲉϩ ⳿ⲉⲛⲉϥⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉⲛ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲫⲏⲉⲑⲣⲁⲛⲁϥ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥ⳿ⲙⲑⲟ.
23 This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Yeshua the Messiah, and love one another, even as he commanded.
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲑⲁⲓ ⲧⲉ ⲧⲉϥⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁϩϯ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲫⲣⲁⲛ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥϣⲏⲣⲓ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ Ⲡⲭ̅ⲥ̅ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲙⲉⲛⲣⲉ ⲛⲉⲛⲉⲣⲏⲟⲩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⲉⲧⲁϥϯⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⲛⲁⲛ.
24 He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲫⲏⲉⲑⲛⲁ⳿ⲁⲣⲉϩ ⳿ⲉⲛⲉϥⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⳿ϥϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟϥ ϩⲱϥ ⳿ϥϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ϧⲉⲛ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ϫⲉ ⳿ϥϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲡ͞ⲛⲁ̅ ⲉⲧⲁϥⲧⲏⲓϥ ⲛⲁⲛ
