1 Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

2 The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.

3 It is an honour for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarrelling.

4 The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Koi hileh nipi laija natong nom lou chun, thaset jeh'a chang-at ding amujou lou ding ahi.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Mihem khat in alunggil'a angaito hi twi thuh tah tobang ahin, hinlah thil hetkhen themna nei mihem dingin; hitobang thuh tah chu twi thal'a athal ding ahi.
6 Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
Mihem tampin ama ama kitahna cheh aphon ding, hinlah mihem kitah mong koiyin amudoh tadem?
7 A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him.
Hitobang mi chu lungthim dihtah'a lamlha pa ahin, anungjui-ah achapa te jeng jong phatthei chang ding ahi.
8 A king who sits on the throne of judgement scatters away all evil with his eyes.
Athuthanna laltouna'a tou lengpan, ijakai amit tenin aven ase le apha atetoh jin ahi.
9 Who can say, “I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin”?
Mihem koiham, “Kalung thim kasutheng in; kachonsetna kon in katheng tai,” tia sei ngam ding?
10 Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
Thil tena dihlou le thil tena kitoh lou chu, Yahweh Pakai dinga thet umtah ahi cheh lhon e.
11 Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
Naosen jeng jong achaloh aum chan in, itobang mi ahi aphongdoh in; hijeh chun athilbol chu adih ham athenga ham ti aseidoh theijin ahi.
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD has made even both of them.
Kho jahna bikol hihen chule kho muna mit hijongleh, anitah'a Yahweh Pakai in asem ahi.
13 Don’t love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
Imut ding bou gel hih hel'in, ajeh chu vaichatnan nahin phah lo ding ahi; na mit teni hasah inlang vetan, chutileh an neh ding neng jeng junga nanei ding ahi.
14 “It’s no good, it’s no good,” says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
Thilchoa pang pan, “Man bei ahibouve,” atin, hinlah ama chu ache mang teng hoitho nan adim jitai.
15 There is gold and abundance of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.
Chihna le hetna kamsunga kon thucheng hohi, sana le song mantam sang in aman tamjon ahi.
16 Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
Hetkhah louhel mi kom'a thilman a kitungsa mipa chu, aponsil aboncha kichom peh a; chule hetphah louhel mite dinga hitobang mihem chu kiman jeng thei ahidem?
17 Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
Koitobang khat dingin changlhah kigua kine hi atui chomdan'in angaito in, hinlah phat chomkhat jouteng akamsunga song chang tobang adim jin ahi.
18 Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war!
Ki-thu mopto them na jeh'in thilgon ho alolhing thei jin, chingthei tah'a kilam kaina jeh'a galsat'a kikonji ahi.
19 He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore don’t keep company with him who opens wide his lips.
Akam tam le seiding hol'a chun thuguh jouse aseidoh jin, hijeh chun ngol the thua thuseipa chutoh kivop hih in.
20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
Koi hileh anu le apa gaosap chan chu, muthim lah'a athao mei kimut mit peh tei ding ahi.
21 An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning won’t be blessed in the end.
Apatna kino chenga kimuji nei le gou chu, achaina lam tengleh phattheina bei ding ahitai.
22 Don’t say, “I will pay back evil.” Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.
“Keiman thilse ka lethuh ding ahi,” tin jong seihih in; Yahweh Pakai ngah in chule Aman na kithopi tei ding ahi.
23 The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.
Thil tena adihlouva kimangcha chu, Yahweh Pakai dinga dei-umlou tah ahi; chule thil asao le achom tena adihlou jong chu aphapoi.
24 A man’s steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
Yahweh Pakai thusah jal'a bou mihem in akal asonji ahin, achutileh mihem in amacham tah'a akalsonna ding iti ahetkhen thei ding ham?
25 It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
Ama deidan tah a, “Hiche hi thil theng ahibouve,” tia sei chu; kipal lhuhna dinga thangkol kisong ahin, hiche hin Yahweh Pakaija kitepna le kigahna chu amin mai maija aphondoh ahi.
26 A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
Lengpa ching thei tah chun migilouho pum'a kijap bangin ajapdoh jin, achunga akol-in akipei lele sah jin ahi.
27 The spirit of man is the LORD’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
Mihem lhagao kiti hi Yahweh Pakai thaomei vah ahin, hijeh chun mihem lunggil hi ahesoh keijin ahi.
28 Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
Kitahna le tantih neilouva ngailutna chun lengpa ahinso ahin, Alaltouna jeng jong ngailutnan ahendet ahibouve.
29 The glory of young men is their strength. The splendour of old men is their grey hair.
Gollhang ho loupina hi athahat jal-u ahin, tehse ho melhoina vang hi asam kan'u hi ahi.
30 Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
Thilse doudalna'a tahsa kijepna maha chu damdoi phatah ahin, hitobang kijepna chun mihem lung laigil geija asuhtheng ahi.
