2 Chronicles 21

1 Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in David’s city; and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

Josafat descansó con sus antepasados y fue sepultado en la Ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Joram.

2 He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

Tuvo como hermanos a Azarías, Jeiel, Zacarías, Azarías, Micael y Sefatías. Todos estos fueron hijos de Josafat, rey de Israel,

3 Their father gave them great gifts of silver, of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

a quienes su padre dio grandes regalos de plata, oro y cosas preciosas, así como ciudades fortificadas en Judá. Pero el reino se lo dio a Joram, porque él era su primogénito.

4 Now when Jehoram had risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel.

Joram fue elevado al reino de su padre. Cuando fue fuerte, mató a espada a todos sus hermanos, y también a algunos de los jefes de Israel.

5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

Joram tenía 32 años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó ocho años en Jerusalén.

6 He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did Ahab’s house, for he had Ahab’s daughter as his wife. He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight.

Anduvo en el camino de los reyes de Israel, como la casa de Acab, pues una hija de Acab fue su esposa. Hizo lo malo ante Yavé.

7 However the LORD would not destroy David’s house, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his children always.

Pero Yavé no quiso destruir la casa de David a causa del Pacto que hizo con él según su promesa, según la cual le daría una lámpara a él y a sus hijos para siempre.

8 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

En su tiempo Edom se rebeló contra el dominio de Judá, y proclamaron un rey de ellos.

9 Then Jehoram went there with his captains and all his chariots with him. He rose up by night and struck the Edomites who surrounded him, along with the captains of the chariots.

Entonces Joram fue con sus oficiales y todos sus carruajes. Al levantarse de noche, derrotó a los edomitas, quienes lo habían sitiado a él y a todos los comandantes de sus carruajes.

10 So Edom has been in revolt from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time from under his hand, because he had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.

Sin embargo, Edom siguió en rebeldía contra el dominio de Judá hasta hoy. En aquel tiempo Libna también se rebeló contra su dominio, porque él abandonó a Yavé ʼElohim de sus antepasados.

11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem play the prostitute, and led Judah astray.

Además construyó lugares altos en la región montañosa de Judá, y fomentó la prostitución entre los habitantes de Jerusalén y Judá.

12 A letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “the LORD, the God of David your father, says, ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

Entonces le llegó una carta del profeta Elías que decía: Yavé ʼElohim de David, tu antepasado, dice: Por cuanto no andas en los caminos de tu padre Josafat, ni en los caminos de Asa, rey de Judá,

13 but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the prostitute like Ahab’s house did, and also have slain your brothers of your father’s house, who were better than yourself,

sino en el camino de los reyes de Israel, causaste que Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén forniquen según la fornicación de la casa de Acab. Por cuanto asesinaste a tus hermanos, a la familia de tu padre, que eran mejores que tú,

14 behold, the LORD will strike your people with a great plague, including your children, your wives, and all your possessions;

ciertamente Yavé va a golpear con una gran calamidad a tu pueblo, tus hijos, tus mujeres, todas tus posesiones

15 and you will have great sickness with a disease of your bowels, until your bowels fall out by reason of the sickness, day by day.’”

y a ti con muchas enfermedades, con dolencia de tus intestinos, hasta que salgan tus intestinos por causa de la enfermedad día tras día.

16 The LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and of the Arabians who are beside the Ethiopians;

Entonces Yavé incitó la ira de los filisteos y los árabes que estaban con los etíopes contra Joram.

17 and they came up against Judah, broke into it, and carried away all the possessions that were found in the king’s house, including his sons and his wives, so that there was no son left to him except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

Estos subieron contra Judá y la invadieron. Se llevaron todo que hallaron en la casa del rey, los bienes, sus hijos y sus mujeres. No le quedó algún hijo, excepto Joacaz, el menor de sus hijos.

18 After all this the LORD struck him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

Después de todo esto, Yavé lo hirió con una enfermedad incurable en los intestinos.

19 In process of time, at the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died of severe diseases. His people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

Aconteció que en el transcurso del tiempo, después de dos años, se le salieron los intestinos a causa de la enfermedad y murió con gran dolor. Su pueblo no encendió una hoguera para él, como la hoguera que encendieron para sus antepasados.

20 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He departed with no one’s regret. They buried him in David’s city, but not in the tombs of the kings.

Tenía 32 años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén ocho años. Desapareció sin que nadie lo lamentara, y lo sepultaron en la Ciudad de David, pero no en los sepulcros de los reyes.
