1 Kings 21
1 After these things, Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
Et après ces choses il arriva que Naboth, de Jizréel, ayant à Jizréel une vigne touchant au palais d'Achab, roi de Samarie,
2 Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near my house; and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money.”
Achab parla à Naboth en ces termes: Cède-moi ta vigne pour en faire mon jardin potager, car elle est proche, à côté de mon habitation, et je te donnerai en échange une vigne meilleure que celle-là; si cela t'agrée, je te donnerai de l'argent en paiement.
3 Naboth said to Ahab, “May the LORD forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!”
Mais Naboth dit à Achab: A l'Éternel ne plaise que je te cède le patrimoine de mes pères!
4 Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
Alors Achab rentra dans son palais, chagrin et irrité du langage que lui avait tenu Naboth de Jizréel en disant: Je ne te cède point le patrimoine de mes pères. Et il se coucha sur son lit et détourna la tête, et ne prit aucune nourriture.
5 But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sad that you eat no bread?”
Alors Jézabel, sa femme, entra chez lui et lui dit: D'où vient ton humeur sombre et que tu ne prends point de nourriture?
6 He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ He answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’”
Et il lui dit: J'ai parlé à Naboth de Jizréel et lui ai dit: Cède-moi ta vigne pour de l'argent, ou, si tu préfères, je te donnerai une vigne pour celle-là. Mais il a dit: Je ne te cède point ma vigne.
7 Jezebel his wife said to him, “Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”
Alors Jézabel, sa femme, lui dit: Exerces-tu maintenant, toi, la souveraineté sur Israël? Lève-toi, prends de la nourriture, aie le cœur à l'aise; moi, je saurai te donner la vigne de Naboth de Jizréel.
8 So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, who lived with Naboth.
Et elle écrivit des lettres au nom d'Achab et les scella de son sceau, et elle expédia les lettres dans sa ville aux Anciens et aux notables qui y habitaient avec Naboth.
9 She wrote in the letters, saying, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high amongst the people.
Et dans ces lettres elle écrivait en s'exprimant ainsi: Publiez un jeûne et donnez à Naboth la première place du peuple,
10 Set two men, wicked fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, ‘You cursed God and the king!’ Then carry him out, and stone him to death.”
et apostez deux hommes, gens de rien, en face de lui pour qu'ils déposent contre lui en ces termes: Tu as maudit Dieu et le roi. Puis menez-le dehors, et le lapidez à mort.
11 The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had instructed them in the letters which she had written and sent to them.
Et les hommes de sa ville, les Anciens et les notables qui habitaient dans sa ville, s'y prirent comme le leur avait mandé Jézabel, d'après le contenu des lettres qu'elle leur avait envoyées;
12 They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high amongst the people.
ils publièrent un jeûne et donnèrent à Naboth la première place du peuple,
13 The two men, the wicked fellows, came in and sat before him. The wicked fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king!” Then they carried him out of the city and stoned him to death with stones.
et les deux hommes, gens de rien, vinrent s'asseoir en face de lui, et ces hommes de rien déposèrent contre Naboth devant le peuple en ces termes: Naboth a maudit Dieu et le roi. Et ils le menèrent en dehors de la ville, et ils le lapidèrent, et il mourut.
14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”
Alors ils expédièrent à Jézabel un message: Naboth est lapidé et mort.
15 When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.”
Et lorsque Jézabel apprit que Naboth était lapidé et mort, Jézabel dit à Achab: Lève-toi, prends possession de la vigne de Naboth de Jizréel, qu'il refusait de te céder pour de l'argent, car Naboth n'est plus en vie, car il est mort.
16 When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.
Et lorsque Achab apprit que Naboth était mort, Achab se leva pour descendre à la vigne de Naboth de Jizréel, afin d'en prendre possession.
17 The LORD’s word came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
Alors la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée à Élie, de Thisbé, en ces termes:
18 “Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwells in Samaria. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it.
Lève-toi, descends à la rencontre d'Achab, roi d'Israël, qui réside à Samarie. Voilà qu'il est dans la vigne de Naboth où il est descendu pour en prendre possession,
19 You shall speak to him, saying, ‘The LORD says, “Have you killed and also taken possession?”’ You shall speak to him, saying, ‘The LORD says, “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours.”’”
et tiens-lui ce langage: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Es-tu meurtrier et usurpateur? Parle-lui et dis-lui: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A l'endroit où les chiens ont lapé le sang de Naboth, les chiens laperont ton sang aussi à toi.
20 Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the LORD’s sight.
Et Achab dit à Élie: M'as-tu donc atteint, mon ennemi? Et il répondit: Je [t']ai atteint, parce que tu t'es vendu pour faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel.
21 Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
Voici, je vais amener la calamité sur toi et ravager après toi, et exterminer à Achab ce qui pisse à la muraille, mineur et émancipé en Israël,
22 I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Israel to sin.”
et réduire ta maison à l'état de la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, et à l'état de la maison de Baësa, fils d'Ahia, pour les provocations dont tu [M']as provoqué, et parce que tu as entraîné Israël à pécher.
23 The LORD also spoke of Jezebel, saying, “The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.
Sur Jézabel aussi l'Éternel parle et dit: Les chiens dévoreront Jézabel sur le rempart de Jizréel.
24 The dogs will eat he who dies of Ahab in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field.”
Ceux qui mourront à Achab dans la ville, seront mangés par les chiens, et ceux qui mourront dans les champs, par les oiseaux du ciel.
25 But there was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.
Sauf Achab il n'y en eut point qui se soit vendu comme lui pour faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, parce qu'il fut séduit par Jézabel, sa femme.
26 He did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
Et il commit nombre d'abominations, et adhéra aux idoles tout comme le faisaient les Amorites que l'Éternel avait chassés devant les enfants d'Israël.
27 When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his body, fasted, lay in sackcloth, and went about despondently.
Et lorsque Achab entendit ce discours, il déchira ses vêtements et appliqua le cilice sur son corps et jeûna, et coucha dans le cilice et prit une démarche lente.
28 The LORD’s word came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
Alors la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée à Élie, de Thisbé, en ces termes:
29 “See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but I will bring the evil on his house in his son’s day.”
As-tu vu que Achab s'est courbé devant moi? Aussi, puisqu'il s'est courbé devant moi, je ne ferai pas venir la calamité de son vivant, c'est au temps de son fils que j'amènerai la calamité sur sa maison.
