Psalms 4
1 For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm by David. Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness. Give me relief from my distress. Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
Au maître chantre. Avec instruments à cordes. Cantique de David. Quand je crie, réponds-moi, mon juste Dieu! Dans l'angoisse dégage-moi! Sois-moi propice, et écoute ma prière!
2 You sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor? Will you love vanity and seek after falsehood? (Selah)
O hommes, jusques à quand mon honneur sera-t-il outragé, aimerez-vous la vanité, poursuivrez-vous le mensonge? (Pause)
3 But know that Yahweh has set apart for himself him who is godly; Yahweh will hear when I call to him.
Cependant sachez que l'Éternel a distingué son Saint! L'Éternel écoute, quand je l'invoque.
4 Stand in awe, and don’t sin. Search your own heart on your bed, and be still. (Selah)
Tremblez et ne péchez point! Couchés, pensez-y en vos cœurs, et restez tranquilles! (Pause)
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness. Put your trust in Yahweh.
Offrez des sacrifices de justice, et confiez-vous dans l'Éternel!
6 Many say, “Who will show us any good?” Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.
Plusieurs disent: O puissions-nous voir le bonheur! Fais lever sur nous la clarté de ta face, ô Éternel!
7 You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and their new wine are increased.
Tu donnes plus de joie à mon cœur, que quand leur blé et leur moût ont été abondants.
8 In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you alone, Yahweh, make me live in safety.
En paix je me couche, en paix je m'endors, car seul, ô Éternel, tu me fais demeurer en sûreté.
