< Proverbs 13 >

1 A wise son listens to his father’s instruction, but a scoffer doesn’t listen to rebuke.
Ọlọ́gbọ́n ọmọ gba ẹ̀kọ́ baba rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ẹlẹ́gàn kò gbọ́ ìbáwí.
2 By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful crave violence.
Láti inú èso ẹnu rẹ̀ ènìyàn ń gbádùn ohun rere, ṣùgbọ́n, ìfẹ́ ọkàn aláìṣòótọ́ ní ìwà ipá.
3 He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ṣọ́ ẹnu rẹ̀ pa ẹnu ara rẹ̀ mọ́, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó ń sọ̀rọ̀ gbàù gbàù yóò parun.
4 The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
Ọkàn ọ̀lẹ ń fẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n kò rí nǹkan kan, ṣùgbọ́n ọkàn àwọn ti kì í ṣe ọ̀lẹ rí ìtẹ́lọ́rùn.
5 A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.
Olódodo kórìíra ohun tí í ṣe irọ́, ṣùgbọ́n ènìyàn búburú hu ìwà ìríra àti ìtìjú.
6 Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
Òdodo ń ṣamọ̀nà ènìyàn olóòtítọ́ inú, ṣùgbọ́n ìwà búburú ṣí ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀ ní ipò.
7 There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.
Ènìyàn kan díbọ́n bí ẹni tí ó ní ọrọ̀ síbẹ̀ kò ní nǹkan kan ẹlòmíràn díbọ́n bí i tálákà, síbẹ̀ ó ní ọrọ̀ púpọ̀.
8 The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.
Ọrọ̀ ènìyàn le è ra ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n tálákà kì í gbọ́ ìdẹ́rùbà.
9 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
Ìmọ́lẹ̀ olódodo tàn roro, ṣùgbọ́n fìtílà ènìyàn búburú ni a pa kú.
10 Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is with people who take advice.
Ìgbéraga máa ń dá ìjà sílẹ̀ ni ṣùgbọ́n ọgbọ́n wà nínú àwọn tí ń gba ìmọ̀ràn.
11 Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.
Owó tí a fi ọ̀nà èrú kójọ yóò ṣí lọ, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń kó owó jọ díẹ̀díẹ̀ yóò pọ̀ sí i.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
Ìrètí tí ń falẹ̀ máa ń mú kí ọkàn ṣàárẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ìrètí tí a rí gbà jẹ́ igi ìyè.
13 Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded.
Ẹni tí ó kẹ́gàn ẹ̀kọ́ yóò jìyà rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó pa àṣẹ mọ́ gba èrè rẹ̀.
14 The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.
Ìkọ́ni ọlọ́gbọ́n jẹ́ orísun ìyè, tí ń yí ènìyàn padà kúrò nínú ìdẹ̀kùn ikú.
15 Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard.
Òye pípé ń mú ni rí ojúrere, ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀nà aláìṣòótọ́ kì í tọ́jọ́.
16 Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.
Gbogbo olóye ènìyàn máa ń hùwà pẹ̀lú ìmọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n aláìgbọ́n a fi ìwà òmùgọ̀ rẹ̀ hàn.
17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.
Ìránṣẹ́ búburú bọ́ sínú ìdààmú ṣùgbọ́n aṣojú olóòtítọ́ mú ìwòsàn wá.
18 Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.
Ẹni tí ó kọ ìbáwí yóò di tálákà yóò sì rí ìtìjú, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó gbọ́ ìbáwí ni yóò rí ọlá.
19 Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
Ìfẹ́ tí a mú ṣẹ dùn mọ́ ọkàn ṣùgbọ́n ìríra ni fún aṣiwèrè láti kúrò nínú ibi.
20 One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
Ẹni tí ó ń bá ọlọ́gbọ́n rìn yóò gbọ́n ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń bá aláìgbọ́n kẹ́gbẹ́ ń pa ara rẹ̀ lára.
21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.
Òsì a máa ta ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ọrọ̀ ni èrè fún olódodo.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.
Ènìyàn rere a máa fi ogún sílẹ̀ fún àwọn ọmọ ọmọ rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n, a kó ọrọ̀ àwọn tó dẹ́ṣẹ̀ pamọ́ fún àwọn olódodo.
23 An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but injustice sweeps it away.
Ilẹ̀ ẹ tálákà le è mú ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ìre oko wá ṣùgbọ́n àìṣòdodo gbá gbogbo rẹ̀ lọ.
24 One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him.
Ẹni tí ó fa ọwọ́ ìbáwí sẹ́yìn kórìíra ọmọ rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó fẹ́ràn ọmọ rẹ̀ yóò máa bá a wí.
25 The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
Olódodo jẹ́wọ́ títí ó fi tẹ́ ọkàn rẹ̀ lọ́rùn ṣùgbọ́n ebi yóò máa pa ikùn ènìyàn búburú.
