Proverbs 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
Los proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel:
2 to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
para conocer la sabiduría y la instrucción; para discernir las palabras del entendimiento;
3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;
para recibir instrucción en el trato sabio, en la rectitud, la justicia y la equidad;
4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man—
para dar prudencia a los simples, conocimiento y discreción al joven —
5 that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel;
para que el sabio escuche y aumente su aprendizaje; para que el hombre de entendimiento alcance el sano consejo;
6 to understand a proverb and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.
para entender un proverbio y parábolas, las palabras y acertijos de los sabios.
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
El temor a Yahvé es el principio del conocimiento, pero los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción.
8 My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching;
Hijo mío, escucha la instrucción de tu padre, y no abandones las enseñanzas de tu madre;
9 for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.
pues serán una guirnalda que adornará tu cabeza, y cadenas alrededor del cuello.
10 My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent.
Hijo mío, si los pecadores te atraen no lo consienten.
11 If they say, “Come with us. Let’s lie in wait for blood. Let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause.
Si dicen: “Ven con nosotros. Acechemos la sangre. Acechemos en secreto a los inocentes sin causa.
12 Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit. (Sheol h7585)

13 We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with plunder.
Encontraremos toda la riqueza valiosa. Llenaremos nuestras casas con el botín.
14 You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse”—
Echarán su suerte entre nosotros. Todos tendremos un bolso”—
15 my son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,
hijo mío, no camines por el camino con ellos. Mantén tu pie fuera de su camino,
16 for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.
porque sus pies corren hacia el mal. Se apresuran a derramar sangre.
17 For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird;
Porque la red se tiende en vano a la vista de cualquier ave;
18 but these lay in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.
Así son los caminos de todo aquel que tiene afán de lucro. Le quita la vida a sus dueños.
20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.
La sabiduría llama en voz alta en la calle. Ella pronuncia su voz en las plazas públicas.
21 She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:
Llama a la cabeza de los lugares ruidosos. A la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad, pronuncia sus palabras:
22 “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?
“¿Hasta cuándo, simples, amaréis la sencillez? Cuánto tiempo se deleitarán los burladores en la burla, ¿y los tontos odian el conocimiento?
23 Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.
Vuélvete ante mi reprimenda. Mira, derramaré mi espíritu sobre ti. Te daré a conocer mis palabras.
24 Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;
Porque te he llamado y te has negado; He extendido mi mano y nadie me ha hecho caso;
25 but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;
pero has ignorado todos mis consejos, y no quería ninguna de mis reprimendas;
26 I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,
Yo también me reiré de tu desastre. Me burlaré cuando la calamidad te alcance,
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.

28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,

29 because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.
porque odiaban el conocimiento, y no eligió el temor a Yahvé.
30 They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.
No querían ningún consejo mío. Despreciaron toda mi reprimenda.
31 Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.
Por eso comerán del fruto de su propio camino, y se llenan de sus propios esquemas.
32 For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.
Porque la reincidencia de los simples los matará. La despreocupación de los tontos los destruirá.
33 But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
Pero el que me escuche habitará con seguridad, y estarán tranquilos, sin temor a sufrir daños”.
