< Jeremiah 1 >
1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin.
Ko e ngaahi lea ʻa Selemaia, ko e foha ʻo Hilikia, ko e tokotaha ʻoe kau taulaʻeiki naʻe nofo ʻi ʻAnatoti ʻi he fonua ʻo Penisimani:
2 Yahweh’s word came to him in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
ʻAia naʻe hoko ki ai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo Siosaia, ko e foha ʻo ʻAmoni, ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta, ʻi hono hongofulu ma tolu taʻu ʻo ʻene pule.
3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
4 Now Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
Pea naʻe toki hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē,
5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
“Naʻaku ʻilo koe ʻi he teʻeki ai te u fakatupu koe ʻi he fatu; pea naʻaku fakatapui koe, pea tuʻutuʻuni koe, ko e palōfita ki he ngaahi puleʻanga, ʻi he teʻeki ai te ke haʻu mei he manāva.”
6 Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, I don’t know how to speak; for I am a child.”
Pea naʻaku toki pehē, “ʻOiauē! ʻE ʻEiki ko Sihova! Vakai, ʻOku ʻikai te u faʻa lea: he ko e tamasiʻi au.”
7 But Yahweh said to me, “Don’t say, ‘I am a child;’ for you must go to whomever I send you, and you must say whatever I command you.
Ka naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, “ʻOua naʻa ke pehē, ko e tamasiʻi koe: ka ke ʻalu kiate kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku ou fekau koe ki ai, pea ko ia te u fekau kiate koe ke ke lea ʻaki.
8 Don’t be afraid because of them, for I am with you to rescue you,” says Yahweh.
Pea ʻoua naʻa ke manavahē ki honau mata: he ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ʻoku ou ʻiate koe, ke fakamoʻui koe.”
9 Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth. Then Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
10 Behold, I have today set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to uproot and to tear down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”
Vakai, Kuo u foaki kiate koe ʻi he ʻaho ni ʻae mālohi ki he ngaahi kakai, mo e ngaahi puleʻanga, ke taʻaki, mo veteki, ke fakaʻauha, mo lī ki lalo, ke langa hake, mo tō.”
11 Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”
Pea naʻe hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē, “ʻE Selemaia, ko e hā ʻoku ke mamata ki ai?” Pea naʻaku pehē, “ʻOku ou mamata ki he vaʻa ʻoe ʻakau ko e ʻalimoni.”
12 Then Yahweh said to me, “You have seen well; for I watch over my word to perform it.”
Pea naʻe pehē mai ʻe Sihova kiate au, “Kuo ke mamata totonu: he te u fakavave ʻeku lea ke fakahoko ia.”
13 Yahweh’s word came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” I said, “I see a boiling cauldron; and it is tipping away from the north.”
Pea naʻe hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova ʻo liunga ua kiate au, ʻo pehē, “Ko e hā ʻoku ke mamata ki ai?” Pea naʻaku pehē, “ʻOku ou mamata ki he kulo vela; ʻoku hanga mai hono ngutu mei he tokelau.”
14 Then Yahweh said to me, “Out of the north, evil will break out on all the inhabitants of the land.
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, “ʻE tupu mei he tokelau ʻae kovi ki he kakai kotoa pē ʻoe fonua.
15 For behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says Yahweh. “They will come, and they will each set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah.
He, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, Vakai, te u ui ki he faʻahinga kotoa pē ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga ʻi he tokelau; “pea te nau haʻu, pea te nau taki taha nofo ʻi hono nofoʻanga ʻi he hūʻanga ki he ngaahi matapā ʻo Selūsalema, pea ki hono ngaahi ʻā kotoa pē ʻo takatakai, pea ki he ngaahi kolo kotoa pē ʻo Siuta.
16 I will utter my judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.
Pea te u fakahā ʻeku ngaahi tautea kiate kinautolu, koeʻuhi ko ʻenau angahala kotoa pē, he kuo nau liʻaki au, pea tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, pea tauhi ki he ngaahi ngāue ʻa honau nima.
17 “You therefore put your belt on your waist, arise, and say to them all that I command you. Don’t be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.
“Ko ia ke ke nonoʻo hoʻo noʻotanga vala, pea tuʻu hake, pea lea ʻaki kiate kinautolu ʻaia kotoa pē ʻoku ou fekau kiate koe: pea ʻoua naʻa ke manavahē ki honau mata, telia naʻaku fakamaaʻi koe ʻi honau ʻao.
18 For behold, I have made you today a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.
He vakai, kuo u ngaohi koe he ʻaho ni ko e kolo kuo teu ki he tau, ko e pou ukamea, ko e ngaahi ʻā palasa, ki he fonua kotoa pē, ki he ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Siuta, mo hono houʻeiki, pea ki hono kau taulaʻeiki, pea mo e kakai kotoa pē ʻoe fonua.
19 They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you”, says Yahweh, “to rescue you.”
Pea te nau tauʻi koe; ka ʻe ʻikai te nau mālohi kiate koe;” he ʻoku pehē mai ʻe Sihova, “ʻOku ou ʻiate koe, ke fakamoʻui koe.”
