Jeremiah 1
1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin.
Paroles de Jérémie, fils d'Hilkia, l'un des sacrificateurs d'Anathoth au pays de Benjamin,
2 Yahweh’s word came to him in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
à qui fut adressée la parole de l'Éternel dans le temps de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne,
3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
et dans le temps de Jéhojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la déportation de Jérusalem, au cinquième mois.
4 Now Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
La parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Avant de te former dans les flancs de ta mère, je te connaissais, et avant que tu sortisses de son sein, je te consacrai, et je t'établis prophète des nations.
6 Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, I don’t know how to speak; for I am a child.”
Et je dis: Hélas! Seigneur, Éternel, voici, je ne sais point parler, car je suis un enfant.
7 But Yahweh said to me, “Don’t say, ‘I am a child;’ for you must go to whomever I send you, and you must say whatever I command you.
Et l'Éternel me dit: Ne dis pas: « Je suis un enfant; » mais va vers quiconque je t'enverrai, et dis tout ce que je t'ordonnerai!
8 Don’t be afraid because of them, for I am with you to rescue you,” says Yahweh.
N'aie point peur devant eux! car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Éternel.
9 Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth. Then Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
Et l'Éternel étendit sa main, et toucha ma bouche, et l'Éternel me dit: Voici, je mets mes paroles en ta bouche.
10 Behold, I have today set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to uproot and to tear down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”
Vois, je te prépose en ce jour sur les peuples et sur les royaumes, pour arracher et pour abattre, pour perdre et pour détruire, pour édifier et pour planter.
11 Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”
Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots: Que vois-tu, Jérémie? Et je dis: Je vois un jet d'amandier.
12 Then Yahweh said to me, “You have seen well; for I watch over my word to perform it.”
Et l'Éternel me dit: Tu as bien vu; car je veille sur ma parole pour y donner effet.
13 Yahweh’s word came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” I said, “I see a boiling cauldron; and it is tipping away from the north.”
Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée une seconde fois en ces mots: Que vois-tu? Et je dis: Je vois une chaudière qui bout, dans la direction du septentrion.
14 Then Yahweh said to me, “Out of the north, evil will break out on all the inhabitants of the land.
Et l'Éternel me dit: C'est du septentrion que la calamité éclatera sur tous les habitants du pays.
15 For behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says Yahweh. “They will come, and they will each set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah.
Car voici, je vais convoquer toutes les tribus des royaumes au septentrion, dit l'Éternel, et ils viendront, et placeront chacun leur station à l'avenue des portes de Jérusalem, et contre ses murailles tout à l'entour, et contre toutes les villes de Juda,
16 I will utter my judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.
et je prononcerai ma sentence contre eux à cause de toute leur méchanceté, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, et qu'ils ont encensé d'autres dieux, et adoré l'ouvrage de leurs mains.
17 “You therefore put your belt on your waist, arise, and say to them all that I command you. Don’t be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.
Mais toi, ceins tes reins, et te lève, et leur dis tout ce que je t'ordonnerai; ne sois point timide devant eux, afin que je ne t'intimide pas devant eux.
18 For behold, I have made you today a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.
Et voici, je fais de toi en ce jour une ville forte, et une colonne de fer, et un mur d'airain contre tout le pays, les rois de Juda, ses princes, ses sacrificateurs, et contre le peuple du pays.
19 They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you”, says Yahweh, “to rescue you.”
Et ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne pourront rien contre toi; car je suis avec toi, dit l'Éternel, pour te protéger.
