Jeremiah 37
1 Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
Sedecías, hijo de Josías, reinó en lugar de Conías, hijo de Joacim, a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, hizo rey en el país de Judá.
2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to Yahweh’s words, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
Pero ni él, ni sus siervos, ni el pueblo del país, escucharon las palabras de Yahvé, que habló por medio del profeta Jeremías.
3 Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Pray now to Yahweh our God for us.”
El rey Sedequías envió al profeta Jeremías a Jehucal, hijo de Selemías, y a Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, el sacerdote, diciendo: “Ruega ahora por nosotros a Yahvé, nuestro Dios”.
4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people, for they had not put him into prison.
Jeremías entró y salió en medio del pueblo, pues no lo habían encarcelado.
5 Pharaoh’s army had come out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
El ejército del Faraón había salido de Egipto; y cuando los caldeos que estaban sitiando Jerusalén tuvieron noticias de ellos, se retiraron de Jerusalén.
6 Then Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
Entonces llegó la palabra de Yahvé al profeta Jeremías, diciendo:
7 “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘You shall tell the king of Judah, who sent you to me to inquire of me: “Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you, will return to Egypt into their own land.
“Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: “Dirás al rey de Judá, que te ha enviado a consultarme “He aquí que el ejército del faraón, que ha salido en tu ayuda, volverá a Egipto a su propia tierra.
8 The Chaldeans will come again, and fight against this city. They will take it and burn it with fire.”’
Los caldeos vendrán de nuevo y lucharán contra esta ciudad. La tomarán y la quemarán con fuego”.
9 “Yahweh says, ‘Don’t deceive yourselves, saying, “The Chaldeans will surely depart from us;” for they will not depart.
“Dice el Señor: ‘No se engañen diciendo: “Los caldeos seguramente se alejarán de nosotros”, porque no se alejarán.
10 For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and only wounded men remained among them, they would each rise up in his tent and burn this city with fire.’”
Porque aunque ustedes hayan golpeado a todo el ejército de los caldeos que luchan contra ustedes, y sólo queden entre ellos hombres heridos, cada uno se levantaría en su tienda y quemaría esta ciudad con fuego.’”
11 When the army of the Chaldeans had withdrawn from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
Cuando el ejército de los caldeos se retiró de Jerusalén por temor al ejército del faraón,
12 then Jeremiah went out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the middle of the people.
entonces Jeremías salió de Jerusalén para ir a la tierra de Benjamín, para recibir allí su parte, en medio del pueblo.
13 When he was in Benjamin’s gate, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”
Cuando estaba en la puerta de Benjamín, estaba allí un capitán de la guardia que se llamaba Irías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Jananías, y agarró al profeta Jeremías diciendo: “¡Te estás pasando a los caldeos!”
14 Then Jeremiah said, “That is false! I am not defecting to the Chaldeans.” But he didn’t listen to him; so Irijah seized Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
Entonces Jeremías dijo: “¡Eso es falso! No estoy desertando a los caldeos”. Pero él no le hizo caso; así que Irías agarró a Jeremías y lo llevó a los príncipes.
15 The princes were angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
Los príncipes se enojaron con Jeremías, lo golpearon y lo metieron en la cárcel, en la casa del escriba Jonatán, pues habían hecho de esa la cárcel.
16 When Jeremiah had come into the dungeon house and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days,
Cuando Jeremías entró en la casa del calabozo y en las celdas, y Jeremías había permanecido allí muchos días,
17 then Zedekiah the king sent and had him brought out. The king asked him secretly in his house, “Is there any word from Yahweh?” Jeremiah said, “There is.” He also said, “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
entonces el rey Sedequías envió y lo hizo sacar. El rey le preguntó en secreto en su casa: “¿Hay alguna palabra de Yahvé?” Jeremías dijo: “Lo hay”. También dijo: “Serán entregados a la mano del rey de Babilonia”.
18 Moreover Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “How have I sinned against you, against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison?
Además, Jeremías dijo al rey Sedequías: “¿En qué he pecado contra ti, contra tus siervos o contra este pueblo, para que me hayas puesto en prisión?
19 Now where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you, nor against this land’?
¿Dónde están tus profetas que te profetizaron diciendo: ‘El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra ti, ni contra esta tierra’?
20 Now please hear, my lord the king: please let my supplication be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.”
Ahora, por favor, escucha, mi señor el rey: por favor, deja que mi súplica sea presentada ante ti, para que no me hagas volver a la casa de Jonatán el escriba, para que no muera allí.”
21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard. They gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was gone. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
Entonces el rey Sedequías dio la orden, y encerraron a Jeremías en el patio de la guardia. Cada día le daban una hogaza de pan de la calle de los panaderos, hasta que se acabó todo el pan de la ciudad. Así permaneció Jeremías en el patio de la guardia.
