Deuteronomy 29
1 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
Dies sind die Worte des Bundes, den Mose auf Befehl des HERRN mit den Israeliten im Lande der Moabiter geschlossen hat, außer dem Bunde, den er am Horeb mit ihnen geschlossen hatte.
2 Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;
Mose berief also alle Israeliten und sagte zu ihnen: »Ihr habt selbst alles gesehen, was der HERR vor euren Augen im Lande Ägypten dem Pharao und allen seinen Knechten und seinem ganzen Lande hat widerfahren lassen:
3 the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders.
die großen Machterweise, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast, jene großen Zeichen und Wunder.
4 But Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
Aber bis auf den heutigen Tag hat der HERR euch kein Herz zum Erkennen, keine Augen zum Sehen und keine Ohren zum Hören gegeben.
5 I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet.
Und doch habe ich euch vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste wandern lassen: eure Kleider sind euch dabei nicht am Leibe zerfallen, und deine Schuhe haben sich an deinen Füßen nicht abgenutzt;
6 You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.
ihr habt kein Brot zu essen gehabt und keinen Wein und kein starkes Getränk getrunken, weil ihr erkennen solltet, daß ich der HERR, euer Gott, bin.
7 When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we struck them.
Als ihr dann in diese Gegend gelangtet, zogen Sihon, der König von Hesbon, und Og, der König von Basan, uns zum Kampf entgegen, aber wir schlugen sie
8 We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
und eroberten ihr Land und gaben es den Stämmen Ruben und Gad und dem halben Stamm Manasse zum Erbbesitz.
9 Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
So beobachtet denn die Bestimmungen dieses Bundes und befolgt sie, damit ihr bei allen euren Unternehmungen glücklichen Erfolg habet!«
10 All of you stand today in the presence of Yahweh your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
»Ihr steht heute allesamt vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott: eure Stammeshäupter, eure Richter, eure Ältesten und Obmänner, alle Männer Israels,
11 your little ones, your wives, and the foreigners who are in the middle of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water,
eure Kinder, eure Weiber und die Nichtisraeliten, die sich bei dir inmitten deines Lagers befinden, von den Holzhauern an bis zu den Wasserträgern bei dir,
12 that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you today,
damit du in den Bund mit dem HERRN, deinem Gott, und zwar in seine Eidgemeinschaft eintretest, den der HERR, dein Gott, heute mit dir schließt,
13 that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be your God, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
weil er dich heute zu seinem Volk einsetzen und er dein Gott sein will, wie er dir zugesagt und wie er deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen hat.
14 Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,
Aber nicht mit euch allein schließe ich diesen Bund und diesen Fluchvertrag,
15 but with those who stand here with us today before Yahweh our God, and also with those who are not here with us today
sondern sowohl mit denen, die heute hier mit uns vor dem HERRN, unserm Gott, stehen, als auch mit denen, die heute noch nicht mit uns hier zugegen sind.«
16 (for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;
»Ihr wißt ja selbst, wie wir im Lande Ägypten gewohnt haben und wie wir mitten durch die Völker gezogen sind, die ihr durchzogen habt;
17 and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were among them);
und ihr habt ihre Scheusale und Götzen von Holz und Stein, Silber und Gold gesehen, die es bei ihnen gibt.
18 lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;
Daß nur ja kein Mann oder Weib, kein Geschlecht oder Stamm sich unter euch befinde, dessen Herz sich heute vom HERRN, unserm Gott, abwendet, daß er hingeht, den Göttern jener Völker zu dienen! Daß sich unter euch nur ja keine Wurzel finde, die Schierling und Wermut als Frucht hervorbringt,
19 and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
niemand, der, wenn er die Worte dieses Fluchvertrags vernimmt, dann sich in seinem Herzen glücklich preist, indem er denkt: ›Gut wird es mir ergehen, wenn ich auch in der Verstocktheit meines Herzens wandle!‹ Das würde zur Folge haben, daß alles, das bewässerte Land mitsamt dem trockenen, hinweggerafft würde.
20 Yahweh will not pardon him, but then Yahweh’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky.
Einem solchen Menschen wird der HERR nicht gewillt sein zu verzeihen, nein, lodern wird alsdann der Zorn und Eifer des HERRN gegen den betreffenden Mann, und alle Flüche, die in diesem Buch aufgezeichnet stehen, werden auf ihn einstürmen, und der HERR wird seinen Namen unter dem Himmel austilgen,
21 Yahweh will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the law.
und der HERR wird ihn aus allen Stämmen Israels zum Unheil aussondern, wie es allen Flüchen des Bundes entspricht, der in diesem Gesetzbuch aufgezeichnet steht.
22 The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick,
Die späteren Geschlechter aber, eure Kinder, die nach euch erstehen werden, und die Ausländer, die aus fernen Ländern kommen, werden fragen, wenn sie die Unglücksschläge und Krankheiten sehen, mit denen der HERR dieses Land heimgesucht hat,
23 that all of its land is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
den Schwefel und das Salz – eine Brandstätte wird sein ganzer Boden sein, so daß er nicht besät werden kann und nichts sprossen läßt und keine Pflanze in ihm aufkommt, eine Verwüstung wie die von Sodom und Gomorrha, Adama und Zeboim, die der HERR in seinem Zorn und Grimm dem Untergang preisgegeben hat –,
24 Even all the nations will say, “Why has Yahweh done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
ja, alle Völker werden fragen: ›Warum hat der HERR diesem Lande solches Geschick widerfahren lassen? Welchen Grund hat diese schreckliche Zornesglut?‹
25 Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
Dann wird man antworten: ›Das ist die Strafe dafür, daß sie den Bund mit dem HERRN, dem Gott ihrer Väter, verlassen haben, den er mit ihnen geschlossen hatte, als er sie aus dem Lande Ägypten herausführte,
26 and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.
und daß sie dazu übergegangen sind, anderen Göttern zu dienen und sich vor ihnen niederzuwerfen, Göttern, die ihnen vorher unbekannt gewesen waren und die er ihnen nicht zugeteilt hatte:
27 Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
darum ist der Zorn des HERRN gegen dieses Land entbrannt, so daß er den ganzen Fluch, der in diesem Buche aufgezeichnet steht, über das Land hat kommen lassen;
28 Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”
und darum hat der HERR sie im Zorn und Grimm und in gewaltiger Erbitterung aus ihrem Lande herausgerissen und sie in ein anderes Land geschleudert, wie es heutigentags der Fall ist.‹
29 The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Das noch Verborgene steht beim HERRN, unserm Gott, aber das bereits offenbar Gewordene ist für uns und unsere Kinder für alle Ewigkeit bestimmt, damit wir alle Worte dieses Gesetzes erfüllen.«
