2 Samuel 21
1 There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Yahweh. Yahweh said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”
Έγεινε δε πείνα εν ταις ημέραις του Δαβίδ τρία έτη κατά συνέχειαν· και ηρώτησεν ο Δαβίδ τον Κύριον· και ο Κύριος απεκρίθη, Τούτο έγεινεν εξ αιτίας του Σαούλ και του φονικού οίκου αυτού, διότι εθανάτωσε τους Γαβαωνίτας.
2 The king called the Gibeonites and said to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites, and the children of Israel had sworn to them; and Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah);
Και εκάλεσεν ο βασιλεύς τους Γαβαωνίτας και είπε προς αυτούς· οι δε Γαβαωνίται δεν ήσαν των υιών Ισραήλ, αλλ' εκ των εναπολειφθέντων Αμορραίων· και οι υιοί Ισραήλ είχον ομόσει προς αυτούς· ο δε Σαούλ εζήτησε να θανατώση αυτούς από του ζήλου αυτού προς τους υιούς Ισραήλ και Ιούδα.
3 and David said to the Gibeonites, “What should I do for you? And with what should I make atonement, that you may bless Yahweh’s inheritance?”
Ο Δαβίδ λοιπόν είπε προς τους Γαβαωνίτας, Τι θέλω κάμει εις εσάς; και με τι θέλω κάμει εξιλέωσιν, διά να ευλογήσητε την κληρονομίαν του Κυρίου;
4 The Gibeonites said to him, “It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel.” He said, “I will do for you whatever you say.”
Οι δε Γαβαωνίται είπον προς αυτόν, Ημείς ούτε περί αργυρίου ούτε περί χρυσίου έχομεν να κάμωμεν μετά του Σαούλ ή μετά του οίκου αυτού· ουδέ ζητούμεν να θανατώσης διά ημάς άνθρωπον εκ του Ισραήλ. Και είπεν, ό,τι είπητε, θέλω κάμει εις εσάς.
5 They said to the king, “The man who consumed us and who plotted against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel,
Και απεκρίθησαν προς τον βασιλέα, Του ανθρώπου, όστις ηφάνισεν ημάς και όστις εμηχανεύθη να εξολοθρεύση ημάς, ώστε να μη υπάρχωμεν εις ουδέν εκ των ορίων του Ισραήλ,
6 let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to Yahweh in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Yahweh.” The king said, “I will give them.”
ας παραδοθώσιν εις ημάς επτά άνθρωποι εκ των υιών αυτού, και θέλομεν κρεμάσει αυτούς προς τον Κύριον εν Γαβαά του Σαούλ, του εκλεκτού του Κυρίου. Και είπεν ο βασιλεύς, Εγώ θέλω παραδώσει αυτούς.
7 But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Yahweh’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
Τον Μεμφιβοσθέ όμως, τον υιόν του Ιωνάθαν, υιού του Σαούλ, εφείσθη ο βασιλεύς, διά τον όρκον του Κυρίου τον μεταξύ αυτών, μεταξύ του Δαβίδ και Ιωνάθαν υιού του Σαούλ.
8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Merab the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
Έλαβε δε ο βασιλεύς τους δύο υιούς της Ρεσφά, θυγατρός του Αϊά, τους οποίους εγέννησεν εις τον Σαούλ, τον Αρμονεί και Μεμφιβοσθέ· και τους πέντε υιούς της Μιχάλ, θυγατρός του Σαούλ, τους οποίους εγέννησεν εις τον Αδριήλ, υιόν του Βαρζελλαΐ του Μεωλαθίτου·
9 He delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites; and they hanged them on the mountain before Yahweh, and all seven of them fell together. They were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.
και παρέδωκεν αυτούς εις τας χείρας των Γαβαωνιτών, και εκρέμασαν αυτούς εις τον λόφον ενώπιον του Κυρίου· και έπεσον ομού και οι επτά και εθανατώθησαν εν ταις ημέραις του θερισμού, εν ταις πρώταις, κατά την αρχήν του θερισμού των κριθών.
10 Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water poured on them from the sky. She allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day, nor the animals of the field by night.
Η δε Ρεσφά, η θυγάτηρ του Αϊά, έλαβε σάκκον και έστρωσεν αυτόν εις εαυτήν επί τον βράχον, από της αρχής του θερισμού εωσού έσταξεν επ' αυτών ύδωρ εκ του ουρανού, και δεν άφινεν ούτε τα πετεινά του ουρανού να καθίσωσιν επ' αυτών την ημέραν ούτε τα θηρία του αγρού την νύκτα.
11 David was told what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
Και ανηγγέλθη προς τον Δαβίδ τι έκαμεν η Ρεσφά, η θυγάτηρ του Αϊά, παλλακή του Σαούλ.
12 So David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh Gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hanged them in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa;
Και υπήγεν ο Δαβίδ και έλαβε τα οστά του Σαούλ και τα οστά του Ιωνάθαν του υιού αυτού, παρά των ανδρών της Ιαβείς-γαλαάδ, οίτινες είχον κλέψει αυτά εκ της πλατείας Βαιθ-σαν, όπου οι Φιλισταίοι εκρέμασαν αυτούς, καθ' ην ημέραν οι Φιλισταίοι εθανάτωσαν τον Σαούλ εν Γελβουέ·
13 and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son. They also gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
και ανεβίβασεν εκείθεν τα οστά του Σαούλ και τα οστά Ιωνάθαν του υιού αυτού· και εσύναξαν τα οστά των κρεμασθέντων.
14 They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father; and they performed all that the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer for the land.
Και έθαψαν τα οστά του Σαούλ και Ιωνάθαν του υιού αυτού εν γη Βενιαμίν εν Σηλά, εν τω τάφω του Κείς, του πατρός αυτού· και έκαμον πάντα όσα προσέταξεν ο βασιλεύς. Και μετά ταύτα εξιλεώθη ο Θεός προς την γην.
15 The Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. David grew faint;
Έγεινε δε πάλιν πόλεμος των Φιλισταίων μετά του Ισραήλ· και κατέβη ο Δαβίδ και οι δούλοι αυτού μετ' αυτού και επολέμησαν εναντίον των Φιλισταίων, και απέκαμεν ο Δαβίδ.
16 and Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of bronze in weight, he being armed with a new sword, thought he would kill David.
Ο δε Ισβί-βενώβ, ο εκ των τέκνων του Ραφά, του οποίου της λόγχης το βάρος ήτο τριακόσιοι σίκλοι χαλκού, όστις ήτο περιεζωσμένος ρομφαίαν νέαν, εσκόπευε να θανατώση τον Δαβίδ.
17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and struck the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, “Don’t go out with us to battle any more, so that you don’t quench the lamp of Israel.”
Εβοήθησεν όμως αυτόν Αβισαί, ο υιός της Σερουΐας, και επάταξε τον Φιλισταίον και εθανάτωσεν αυτόν. Τότε οι άνδρες του Δαβίδ ώμοσαν προς αυτόν, λέγοντες, Δεν θέλεις εξέλθει πλέον μεθ' ημών εις πόλεμον, διά να μη σβέσης τον λύχνον του Ισραήλ.
18 After this, there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.
Μετά δε ταύτα έγεινε πάλιν πόλεμος μετά των Φιλισταίων εν Γωβ, εν τω οποίω Σιββεχαΐ ο Χουσαθίτης εθανάτωσε τον Σαφ, όστις ήτο εκ των τέκνων του Ραφά·
19 There was again war with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite’s brother, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
Και πάλιν έγεινε πόλεμος εν Γωβ μετά των Φιλισταίων, και ο Ελχανάν ο υιός του Ιαρέ-ορεγείμ, Βηθλεεμίτης, εθανάτωσε τον αδελφόν του Γολιάθ του Γετθαίου, και το ξύλον της λόγχης αυτού ήτο ως αντίον υφαντού.
20 There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on every hand and six toes on every foot, twenty-four in number, and he also was born to the giant.
Έγεινεν έτι πόλεμος εν Γαθ, και ήτο ανήρ υπερμεγέθης, και οι δάκτυλοι των χειρών αυτού και οι δάκτυλοι των ποδών αυτού ήσαν εξ και εξ, εικοσιτέσσαρες τον αριθμόν· και ούτος έτι ήτο εκ της γενεάς του Ραφά.
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, killed him.
Και ωνείδισε τον Ισραήλ· και Ιωνάθαν ο υιός του Σαμαά, αδελφού του Δαβίδ, επάταξεν αυτόν.
22 These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
Οι τέσσαρες ούτοι εγεννήθησαν εις τον Ραφά εν Γαθ, και έπεσον διά χειρός του Δαβίδ και διά χειρός των δούλων αυτού.
