1 Kings 13
1 Behold, a man of God came out of Judah by Yahweh’s word to Bethel; and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.
Et voilà qu'un homme de Dieu arriva de Juda à Béthel avec la parole de l'Éternel, comme Jéroboam était debout à l'autel pour offrir l'encens.
2 He cried against the altar by Yahweh’s word, and said, “Altar! Altar! Yahweh says: ‘Behold, a son will be born to David’s house, Josiah by name. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men’s bones on you.’”
Et apostrophant l'autel avec la parole de l'Éternel il dit: Autel! Autel! ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, il naîtra un fils à la maison de David, Josias sera son nom, et sur toi il immolera les prêtres des hauts lieux, qui sur toi offrent l'encens, et sur toi l'on brûlera des ossements humains.
3 He gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which Yahweh has spoken: Behold, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out.”
Et le même jour il donna un signe et dit: C'est le signe que l'Éternel a parlé: voici, l'autel sera détruit, et la graisse qui y est, se répandra.
4 When the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam put out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him!” His hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.
Et quand le Roi entendit la parole que l'homme de Dieu adressait à l'autel, à Béthel, Jéroboam étendit la main de dessus l'autel en disant: Arrêtez-le! et la main qu'il étendait contre lui, sécha, et il ne pouvait la ramener à soi.
5 The altar was also split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by Yahweh’s word.
Et l'autel fut mis en pièces, et la graisse coula de l'autel conformément au signe qu'avait donné l'homme de Dieu par ordre de l'Éternel.
6 The king answered the man of God, “Now intercede for the favor of Yahweh your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again.” The man of God interceded with Yahweh, and the king’s hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before.
Alors le Roi prit la parole et dit à l'homme de Dieu: Apaise donc l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et intercède pour moi, afin que je recouvre ma main. Alors l'homme de Dieu apaisa l'Éternel, et la main du Roi put être ramenée et elle revint à son premier état.
7 The king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”
Et Le Roi parlant à l'homme de Dieu: Entre avec moi [dit-il] dans la maison pour te restaurer, et je te donnerai un présent.
8 The man of God said to the king, “Even if you gave me half of your house, I would not go in with you, neither would I eat bread nor drink water in this place;
Mais l'homme de Dieu dit au Roi: Quand tu me donnerais la moitié de ta maison, je n'entrerais pas avec toi; d'ailleurs je ne mangerai point de pain et ne boirai point d'eau en ce lieu-ci,
9 for so was it commanded me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’”
car tel est l'ordre compris dans la parole de Dieu qui m'a été adressée: Tu ne mangeras point de pain et ne boiras point d'eau et pour ton retour tu ne prendras pas le chemin par lequel tu seras allé.
10 So he went another way, and didn’t return by the way that he came to Bethel.
Puis il partit par un autre chemin, et pour son retour il ne prit point le chemin par lequel il était venu à Béthel.
11 Now an old prophet lived in Bethel, and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.
Or à Béthel demeurait un prophète âgé; et son fils vint lui raconter tout ce qu'avait fait à Béthel ce jour-là l'homme de Dieu, et les paroles qu'il avait adressées au Roi; et comme [les fils] faisaient ce récit à leur père,
12 Their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” Now his sons had seen which way the man of God went, who came from Judah.
celui-ci leur dit: Quel chemin a-t-il pris? Et ses fils s'assurèrent du chemin pris par l'homme de Dieu venu de Juda.
13 He said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on it.
Et il dit à ses fils: Sellez-moi l'âne. Et ils lui sellèrent l'âne, et il le monta.
14 He went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. He said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” He said, “I am.”
Et il suivit l'homme de Dieu et il le trouva assis sous le Térébinthe, et il lui dit: Es-tu l'homme de Dieu venu de Juda?
15 Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”
Et il répondit: Je le suis. Et il lui dit: Viens avec moi au logis et tu mangeras le pain.
16 He said, “I may not return with you, nor go in with you. I will not eat bread or drink water with you in this place.
Et il répondit: Je ne saurais retourner avec toi, ni entrer avec toi, ni manger du pain, ni boire de l'eau avec toi dans ce lieu,
17 For it was said to me by Yahweh’s word, ‘You shall eat no bread or drink water there, and don’t turn again to go by the way that you came.’”
car dans la parole de l'Éternel il m'a été dit: Tu ne mangeras point de pain et ne boiras point d'eau là, et pour ton retour tu ne prendras pas le chemin par lequel tu seras allé.
18 He said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are; and an angel spoke to me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” He lied to him.
Et il lui dit: Moi aussi je suis prophète comme toi, et un ange m'a parlé avec la parole de l'Éternel, et dit: Ramène-le avec toi dans ta maison, pour qu'il mange du pain et boive de l'eau. Il lui mentait.
19 So he went back with him, ate bread in his house, and drank water.
Alors [le prophète de Juda] revint avec lui et mangea du pain dans sa maison et but de l'eau.
20 As they sat at the table, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet who brought him back;
Et comme ils étaient assis à table, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée au prophète qui l'avait ramené,
21 and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have been disobedient to Yahweh’s word, and have not kept the commandment which Yahweh your God commanded you,
et qui cria à l'homme de Dieu venu de Juda ces mots: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Puisque tu as désobéi à l'ordre de l'Éternel et n'as pas observé le commandement que t'avait prescrit l'Éternel, ton Dieu,
22 but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread, and drink no water,” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.’”
et que tu as rebroussé et que tu as mangé du pain et bu de l'eau dans le lieu duquel Il t'avait dit: Tu n'y mangeras point de pain et n'y boiras point d'eau; ton cadavre n'entrera point au tombeau de tes pères.
23 After he had eaten bread and after he drank, he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back.
Et après avoir mangé le pain et avoir bu, il sella l'âne au prophète qu'il avait ramené,
24 When he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. His body was thrown on the path, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body.
et qui partit; et il fut rencontré dans la route par un lion qui le tua. Et son cadavre était gisant sur le chemin et l'âne restait à ses côtés, et le lion restait à côté du cadavre.
25 Behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.
Et voilà que des gens passèrent et virent le cadavre gisant sur le chemin et le lion qui restait à côté du cadavre, et ils vinrent le redire dans la ville qu'habitait le vieux prophète.
26 When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, “It is the man of God who was disobedient to Yahweh’s word. Therefore Yahweh has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke to him.”
Ce qu'apprenant, le prophète qui lui avait fait rebrousser chemin, dit: C'est l'homme de Dieu qui a désobéi à l'ordre de l'Éternel; aussi l'Éternel l'a-t-Il livré au lion qui l'a terrassé et tué selon la parole de l'Éternel qu'il lui avait adressée.
27 He said to his sons, saying, “Saddle the donkey for me,” and they saddled it.
Et parlant à ses fils il dit: Sellez-moi l'âne. Et ils le sellèrent.
28 He went and found his body thrown on the path, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body nor mauled the donkey.
Puis il se mit en route et il trouva le cadavre gisant sur le chemin, et l'âne et le lion restés à côté du cadavre: le lion n'avait ni dévoré le cadavre, ni abattu l'âne.
29 The prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. He came to the city of the old prophet to mourn, and to bury him.
Alors le prophète leva le cadavre de l'homme de Dieu et le plaça sur l'âne et le ramena, et rentra en ville, lui le prophète âgé, pour son deuil et sa sépulture.
30 He laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”
Et il déposa le cadavre dans son tombeau, et on éleva sur lui la complainte: « Hélas! mon frère. »
31 After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I am dead, bury me in the tomb in which the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones.
Et après avoir vaqué à sa sépulture, il parla à ses fils en ces termes: A ma mort vous m'inhumerez dans le tombeau où l'homme de Dieu est inhumé, et vous déposerez mes os à côté de ses os.
32 For the saying which he cried by Yahweh’s word against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely happen.”
Car elle aura son effet, la menace qu'il a proclamée par ordre de l'Éternel contre l'autel de Béthel et contre tous les temples des hauteurs qui sont dans les villes de Samarie.
33 After this thing, Jeroboam didn’t turn from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted to, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.
Après ce fait Jéroboam ne quitta point sa mauvaise voie, mais de nouveau il créa des prêtres des tertres, tirés de la masse du peuple, et il instituait qui le voulait, pour en faire un prêtre des hauts lieux.
34 This thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off and to destroy it from off the surface of the earth.
Et par cette manière d'agir il devint la cause du péché de la maison de Jéroboam et de sa destruction et de son extermination de la face de la terre.
