Proverbs 22
1 A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.
Becsesebb a név nagy gazdagságnál, ezüstnél és aranynál jobb a kedvesség.
2 The rich and the poor have this in common: The LORD is the maker of them all.
Gazdag és szegény találkoztak; mindnyájuk alkotója az Örökkévaló.
3 A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
Az okos látta a bajt és elrejtőzött, de az együgyűek tova haladtak és lakoltak.
4 The result of humility and the fear of the LORD is wealth, honor, and life.
Nyomában az alázatosságnak, az istenfélelemnek van gazdagság és dicsőség és élet.
5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked; whoever guards his soul stays far from them.
Tövisek, tőrök vannak az álnok útján; a ki lelkét megőrzi, távol marad tőlük.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Neveld a fiút az ő módja szerint, ha megöregszik sem tér el attól.
7 The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
A gazdag uralkodik a szegényeken, és szolgája a kölcsönvevő a kölcsönadó embernek.
8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
A ki jogtalanságot vet, bajt fog aratni, és haragjának vesszeje megsemmisül.
9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.
A ki jóságos szemű, az meg fog áldatni, mert kenyeréből adott a szegénynek.
10 Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
Űzd el a csúfolót és elmegy a viszály, s megszűnik per és szégyen.
11 He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend.
Szereti a tiszta szívűt, barátja a kedves ajkúnak a király.
12 The LORD’s eyes watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
Az Örökkévaló szemei megóvták a tudást és ő elferdítette a hűtelennek szavait.
13 The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”
Mondta a rest: oroszlán van az utczán, a piaczok közepén meg fognak engem ölni.
14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit. He who is under the LORD’s wrath will fall into it.
Mélységes gödör idegen nők szája, az Örökkévaló átkozottja esik oda bele.
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
Az oktalanság hozzá van kötve a fiú szívéhez, a, fenyítés pálczája eltávolítja tőle.
16 Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
A ki fosztogatja a szegényt, hogy a magáét gyarapítsa, a gazdagnak ad majd – bizony szűkölködésre jut.
17 Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.
Hajlítsd füledet és halljad a bölcsek szavait, és szívedet fordítsd tudásomra.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
Mert kellemes az, hogy megőrzöd kebledben, megszilárdulnak egyaránt ajkaidon.
19 I teach you today, even you, so that your trust may be in the LORD.
Hogy az Örökkévalóban legyen bizodalmad, te veled is tudattam e napon.
20 Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
Nemde fölírtam neked kiváló dolgokat, tanácsokkal és tudással;
21 To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
hogy tudassak veled valódiságot, igaz mondásokat, hogy küldőidnek válaszolhass igaz mondásokkal.
22 Don’t exploit the poor because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
Ne rabold meg a szegényt, mivel szegény, s ne zúzd össze a nyomorút a kapuban;
23 for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
mert az Örökkévaló viszi ügyüket s megfosztja kifosztóikat az élettől.
24 Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man. Don’t associate with one who harbors anger,
Ne barátkozzál haragos emberrel és heveskedő férfival ne jöjj össze;
25 lest you learn his ways and ensnare your soul.
nehogy eltanuljad az ő ösvényét és tőrt szereznél lelkednek.
26 Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
Ne légy azok közt, kik kézbe csapnak, a kik kezeskednek adósságokért;
27 If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
ha nincs neked miből fizetni, miért vegye el ágyadat alólad.
28 Don’t move the ancient boundary stone which your fathers have set up.
Ne told el az ősrégi határt, melyet vetettek az őseid.
29 Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
Láttál valakit, a ki ügyes az ő munkájában, királyok előtt állhat, ne álljon a sötét sorban levők előtt.
