James 2
1 My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with partiality.
เห มม ภฺราตร: , ยูยมฺ อสฺมากํ เตชสฺวิน: ปฺรโภ รฺยีศุขฺรีษฺฏสฺย ธรฺมฺมํ มุขาเปกฺษยา น ธารยตฯ
2 For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in,
ยโต ยุษฺมากํ สภายำ สฺวรฺณางฺคุรียกยุกฺเต ภฺราชิษฺณุปริจฺฉเท ปุรุเษ ปฺรวิษฺเฏ มลินวสฺเตฺร กสฺมึศฺจิทฺ ทริเทฺร'ปิ ปฺรวิษฺเฏ
3 and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing and say, “Sit here in a good place;” and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”
ยูยํ ยทิ ตํ ภฺราชิษฺณุปริจฺฉทวสานํ ชนํ นิรีกฺษฺย วเทต ภวานฺ อโตฺรตฺตมสฺถาน อุปวิศตฺวิติ กิญฺจ ตํ ทริทฺรํ ยทิ วเทต ตฺวมฺ อมุสฺมินฺ สฺถาเน ติษฺฐ ยทฺวาตฺร มม ปาทปีฐ อุปวิเศติ,
4 haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
ตรฺหิ มน: สุ วิเศษฺย ยูยํ กึ กุตรฺไก: กุวิจารกา น ภวถ?
5 Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?
เห มม ปฺริยภฺราตร: , ศฺฤณุต, สํสาเร เย ทริทฺราสฺตานฺ อีศฺวโร วิศฺวาเสน ธนิน: สฺวเปฺรมการิภฺยศฺจ ปฺรติศฺรุตสฺย ราชฺยสฺยาธิการิณ: กรฺตฺตุํ กึ น วรีตวานฺ? กินฺตุ ทริโทฺร ยุษฺมาภิรวชฺญายเตฯ
6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you and personally drag you before the courts?
ธนวนฺต เอว กึ ยุษฺมานฺ โนปทฺรวนฺติ พลาจฺจ วิจาราสนานำ สมีปํ น นยนฺติ?
7 Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?
ยุษฺมทุปริ ปริกีรฺตฺติตํ ปรมํ นาม กึ ไตเรว น นินฺทฺยเต?
8 However, if you fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well.
กิญฺจ ตฺวํ สฺวสมีปวาสินิ สฺวาตฺมวตฺ ปฺรียสฺว, เอตจฺฉาสฺตฺรียวจนานุสารโต ยทิ ยูยํ ราชกียวฺยวสฺถำ ปาลยถ ตรฺหิ ภทฺรํ กุรุถฯ
9 But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
ยทิ จ มุขาเปกฺษำ กุรุถ ตรฺหิ ปาปมฺ อาจรถ วฺยวสฺถยา จาชฺญาลงฺฆิน อิว ทูษฺยเธฺวฯ
10 For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
ยโต ย: กศฺจิตฺ กฺฤตฺสฺนำ วฺยวสฺถำ ปาลยติ ส ยเทฺยกสฺมินฺ วิเธา สฺขลติ ตรฺหิ สรฺเวฺวษามฺ อปราธี ภวติฯ
11 For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
ยโต เหโตสฺตฺวํ ปรทารานฺ มา คจฺเฉติ ย: กถิตวานฺ ส เอว นรหตฺยำ มา กุรฺยฺยา อิตฺยปิ กถิตวานฺ ตสฺมาตฺ ตฺวํ ปรทารานฺ น คตฺวา ยทิ นรหตฺยำ กโรษิ ตรฺหิ วฺยวสฺถาลงฺฆี ภวสิฯ
12 So speak and so do as men who are to be judged by the law of freedom.
มุกฺเต รฺวฺยวสฺถาโต เยษำ วิจาเรณ ภวิตวฺยํ ตาทฺฤศา โลกา อิว ยูยํ กถำ กถยต กรฺมฺม กุรุต จฯ
13 For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
โย ทยำ นาจรติ ตสฺย วิจาโร นิรฺทฺทเยน การิษฺยเต, กินฺตุ ทยา วิจารมฺ อภิภวิษฺยติฯ
14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?
เห มม ภฺราตร: , มม ปฺรตฺยโย'สฺตีติ ย: กถยติ ตสฺย กรฺมฺมาณิ ยทิ น วิทฺยนฺต ตรฺหิ เตน กึ ผลํ? เตน ปฺรตฺยเยน กึ ตสฺย ปริตฺราณํ ภวิตุํ ศกฺโนติ?
15 And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,
เกษุจิทฺ ภฺราตฺฤษุ ภคินีษุ วา วสนหีเนษุ ปฺราตฺยหิกาหารหีเนษุ จ สตฺสุ ยุษฺมากํ โก'ปิ เตภฺย: ศรีรารฺถํ ปฺรโยชนียานิ ทฺรวฺยาณิ น ทตฺวา ยทิ ตานฺ วเทตฺ,
16 and one of you tells them, “Go in peace. Be warmed and filled;” yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?
ยูยํ สกุศลํ คโตฺวษฺณคาตฺรา ภวต ตฺฤปฺยต เจติ ตเรฺหฺยเตน กึ ผลํ?
17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.
ตทฺวตฺ ปฺรตฺยโย ยทิ กรฺมฺมภิ รฺยุกฺโต น ภเวตฺ ตเรฺหฺยกากิตฺวาตฺ มฺฤต เอวาเสฺตฯ
18 Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
กิญฺจ กศฺจิทฺ อิทํ วทิษฺยติ ตว ปฺรตฺยโย วิทฺยเต มม จ กรฺมฺมาณิ วิทฺยนฺเต, ตฺวํ กรฺมฺมหีนํ สฺวปฺรตฺยยํ มำ ทรฺศย ตรฺหฺยหมปิ มตฺกรฺมฺมภฺย: สฺวปฺรตฺยยํ ตฺวำ ทรฺศยิษฺยามิฯ
19 You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe—and shudder.
เอก อีศฺวโร 'สฺตีติ ตฺวํ ปฺรเตฺยษิฯ ภทฺรํ กโรษิฯ ภูตา อปิ ตตฺ ปฺรติยนฺติ กมฺปนฺเต จฯ
20 But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?
กินฺตุ เห นิรฺพฺโพธมานว, กรฺมฺมหีน: ปฺรตฺยโย มฺฤต เอวาสฺเตฺยตทฺ อวคนฺตุํ กิมฺ อิจฺฉสิ?
21 Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
อสฺมากํ ปูรฺวฺวปุรุโษ ย อิพฺราหีมฺ สฺวปุตฺรมฺ อิสฺหากํ ยชฺญเวทฺยามฺ อุตฺสฺฤษฺฏวานฺ ส กึ กรฺมฺมโภฺย น สปุณฺยีกฺฤต: ?
22 You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected.
ปฺรตฺยเย ตสฺย กรฺมฺมณำ สหการิณิ ชาเต กรฺมฺมภิ: ปฺรตฺยย: สิทฺโธ 'ภวตฺ ตตฺ กึ ปศฺยสิ?
23 So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God.
อิตฺถญฺเจทํ ศาสฺตฺรียวจนํ สผลมฺ อภวตฺ, อิพฺราหีมฺ ปรเมศฺวเร วิศฺวสิตวานฺ ตจฺจ ตสฺย ปุณฺยายาคณฺยต ส เจศฺวรสฺย มิตฺร อิติ นาม ลพฺธวานฺฯ
24 You see then that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.
ปศฺยต มานว: กรฺมฺมภฺย: สปุณฺยีกฺริยเต น ไจกากินา ปฺรตฺยเยนฯ
25 In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
ตทฺวทฺ ยา ราหพฺนามิกา วารางฺคนา จารานฺ อนุคฺฤหฺยาปเรณ มารฺเคณ วิสสรฺช สาปิ กึ กรฺมฺมโภฺย น สปุณฺยีกฺฤตา?
26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
อเตอวาตฺมหีโน เทโห ยถา มฺฤโต'สฺติ ตไถว กรฺมฺมหีน: ปฺรตฺยโย'ปิ มฺฤโต'สฺติฯ
