Esther 7
1 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
Et le roi avec Aman se rendit au banquet chez la reine Esther.
2 The king said again to Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition, queen Esther? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.”
Et le roi dit encore à Esther le second jour, quand on servait le vin: Quelle est ta demande, reine Esther? elle te sera accordée; et quel est ton désir? fût-ce la moitié de mon royaume, il sera satisfait.
3 Then Esther the queen answered, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.
Alors la reine Esther répondit et dit: Si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, ô roi, et si c'est le bon plaisir du roi, que ma vie soit accordée à ma prière, et mon peuple à ma requête.
4 For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for male and female slaves, I would have held my peace, although the adversary could not have compensated for the king’s loss.”
Car nous sommes vendus, moi et mon peuple, à l'extermination, au massacre et à l'assassinat. Et si nous étions vendus pour devenir serviteurs et servantes, je me tairais, mais l'ennemi n'est pas à même de compenser le dommage fait au roi.
5 Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen, “Who is he, and where is he who dared presume in his heart to do so?”
Alors le roi Assuérus parla et dit à la reine Esther: Qui est donc celui, et où est celui qui a l'audace d'agir de la sorte?
6 Esther said, “An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
Et Esther dit: L'homme hostile et l'ennemi, — c'est Aman, c'est ce méchant-là! Et Aman fut atterré en présence du roi et de la reine.
7 The king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden. Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen, for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
Et le roi se leva dans son courroux, et, quittant le repas, il gagna le jardin du palais; mais Aman resta pour solliciter en faveur de sa vie auprès de la reine Esther, car il voyait que sa ruine était consommée par devers le roi.
8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fallen on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in front of me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.
Et quand le roi revint du jardin du palais dans la salle du festin, Aman était tombé au pied du lit sur lequel était Esther. Alors le roi dit: Veut-il même faire violence à la reine à mes côtés, au palais? Le mot sorti de la bouche du roi, on voila le visage d'Aman.
9 Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were with the king, said, “Behold, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman has made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, is standing at Haman’s house.” The king said, “Hang him on it!”
Et Harbona, l'un des eunuques, dit devant le roi: Vois aussi, le poteau qu'Aman a fait faire pour Mardochée qui a parlé pour le bien du roi, est dressé dans la demeure d'Aman avec la hauteur de cinquante coudées. Alors le roi dit: Pendez-l'y!
10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath was pacified.
Et l'on pendit Aman au poteau qu'il avait préparé pour Mardochée, et la colère du roi fut apaisée.
