1 Thessalonians 3
1 Therefore when we couldn’t stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,
Wie wir es vor Sehnsucht nach euch nicht mehr aushalten konnten, deshalb entschlossen wir uns, allein in Athen zurückzubleiben,
2 and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the Good News of Christ, to establish you and to comfort you concerning your faith,
und schickten Timotheus, unseren Bruder und Gottes Diener an Christi Froher Botschaft, um euch für euern Glauben Stärkung und Trost zu bringen,
3 that no one would be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.
damit niemand in den jetzigen Trübsalen wankend würde. Denn ihr wißt ja selbst, daß wir dazu bestimmt sind (Trübsal durchzumachen).
4 For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.
Haben wir es euch doch, als wir bei euch waren, vorhergesagt, daß wir Trübsal leiden müssen. Und das ist nun, wie ihr erfahren habt, auch wirklich eingetroffen.
5 For this cause I also, when I couldn’t stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.
So schickte ich denn, weil ich es nicht mehr aushielt, zu euch, um zu erfahren, wie es um euern Glauben stehe, ob euch etwa der Versucher verführt habe und unsere Arbeit vergeblich gewesen sei.
6 But Timothy has just now come to us from you, and brought us glad news of your faith and love, and that you have good memories of us always, longing to see us, even as we also long to see you.
Jetzt aber ist Timotheus von euch zu uns zurückgekehrt mit guter Botschaft über euern Glauben und eure Liebe und mit der Nachricht, daß ihr uns allezeit in gutem Andenken habt und voll Sehnsucht seid, uns wiederzusehen, — wie auch uns nach dem Wiedersehen mit euch verlangt.
7 For this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith.
Nun sind wir, liebe Brüder, bei all unserer Not und Trübsal durch euern Glauben getröstet worden.
8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.
Denn jetzt erst haben wir rechten Lebensmut, weil ihr in der Gemeinschaft des Herrn feststeht.
9 For what thanksgiving can we render again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God,
Ja wir können Gott nicht genug danken für all die Freude, die wir euretwegen vor unserem Gott empfinden.
10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
Tag und Nacht flehen wir ihn innig an, er möge uns euch wiedersehen lassen, damit wir alles, was etwa noch in euerm Glaubensleben mangelt, in rechte Ordnung bringen können.
11 Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.
Er, unser Gott und Vater, und unser Herr Jesus bahne uns den Weg zu euch!
12 May the Lord make you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all men, even as we also do toward you,
Euch aber erfülle der Herr mit reicher Liebe zueinander und zu allen Menschen — wie auch wir von Liebe zu euch überfließen.
13 to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
Dann werden eure Herzen fest, und ihr seid unsträflich in Heiligkeit vor unserem Gott und Vater, wenn unser Herr Jesus kommt mit allen seinen Heiligen.
