Psalms 82

1 A Psalm by Asaph. God presides in the great assembly. He judges amongst the gods.

Guð stígur fram á himnum. Hann segir: „Réttur er settur!“Síðan birtir hann úrskurð sinn gegn dómurum á jörðu.

2 “How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?” (Selah)

Hve lengi ætlið þið, dómarar, að sniðganga réttlætið? Hve lengi ætlið þið að draga taum hinna ranglátu?

3 “Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

Kveðið upp réttláta dóma í málum hinna fátæku og föðurlausu, bágstöddu og þjáðu,

4 Rescue the weak and needy. Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.”

Losið fátæklingana úr klóm hinna guðlausu!

5 They don’t know, neither do they understand. They walk back and forth in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.

Þið eruð sljóir og fáfróðir og blindir. Þess vegna riðar þjóðfélagið til falls.

6 I said, “You are gods, all of you are sons of the Most High.

Ég hef kallað ykkur „guði“og „syni hins hæsta“,

7 Nevertheless you shall die like men, and fall like one of the rulers.”

en í raun og veru eruð þið aðeins dauðlegir menn. Þið munuð falla rétt eins og aðrir af höfðingjunum.

8 Arise, God, judge the earth, for you inherit all of the nations.

Rís þú upp, ó Guð, og dæmdu jörðina. Þú hefur hana á valdi þínu og þjóðirnar eru í þinni hendi.
