Judges 19
1 In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who took for himself a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah.
Zu jener Zeit, als kein König in Israel war, begab es sich auch, daß ein levitischer Mann, der sich im hintern Teil des Gebirges Ephraim aufhielt, ein Kebsweib von Bethlehem-Juda nahm.
2 His concubine played the prostitute against him, and went away from him to her father’s house to Bethlehem Judah, and was there for four months.
Dieses Kebsweib aber war treulos gegen ihn und lief von ihm fort in ihres Vaters Haus, nach Bethlehem-Juda, und blieb daselbst vier Monate lang.
3 Her husband arose and went after her to speak kindly to her, to bring her again, having his servant with him and a couple of donkeys. She brought him into her father’s house; and when the father of the young lady saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.
Da machte sich ihr Mann auf und ging ihr nach, um zu ihrem Herzen zu reden und sie wieder zurückzubringen; und er hatte einen Knaben und ein Paar Esel bei sich. Und sie führte ihn in ihres Vaters Haus. Als ihn aber des Mädchens Vater sah, empfing er ihn mit Freuden.
4 His father-in-law, the young lady’s father, kept him there; and he stayed with him three days. So they ate and drank, and stayed there.
Und sein Schwiegervater, des Mädchens Vater, hielt ihn fest, und er blieb drei Tage lang bei ihm, und sie aßen und tranken und übernachteten daselbst.
5 On the fourth day, they got up early in the morning, and he rose up to depart. The young lady’s father said to his son-in-law, “Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward you shall go your way.”
Am vierten Tage aber standen sie früh auf und wollten gehen. Da sprach des Mädchens Vater zu seinem Tochtermann: Stärke dein Herz mit einem Bissen Brot; darnach mögt ihr ziehen!
6 So they sat down, ate, and drank, both of them together. Then the young lady’s father said to the man, “Please be pleased to stay all night, and let your heart be merry.”
Und sie setzten sich und aßen beide miteinander und tranken. Da sprach des Mädchens Vater zu dem Mann: Laß es dir doch gefallen und bleibe über Nacht und laß dein Herz guter Dinge sein.
7 The man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law urged him, and he stayed there again.
Doch der Mann stand auf und wollte gehen. Aber sein Schwiegervater nötigte ihn, so daß er umkehrte und daselbst über Nacht blieb.
8 He arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the young lady’s father said, “Please strengthen your heart and stay until the day declines;” and they both ate.
Am Morgen des fünften Tages machte er sich auf und wollte ziehen. Da sprach des Mädchens Vater: Stärke doch dein Herz! Und sie verzogen, bis sich der Tag neigte, während sie beide miteinander aßen.
9 When the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the young lady’s father, said to him, “Behold, now the day draws towards evening, please stay all night. Behold, the day is ending. Stay here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow go on your way early, that you may go home.”
Darnach machte sich der Mann auf und wollte mit seinem Kebsweibe und mit seinem Knaben ziehen; aber sein Schwiegervater, des Mädchens Vater, sprach abermal zu ihm: Siehe doch, der Tag nimmt ab, und es will Abend werden. Bleibt doch hier über Nacht; siehe, der Tag neigt sich; bleibt hier über Nacht, und laß dein Herz guter Dinge sein! Dann macht euch morgen früh auf den Weg, daß du zu deiner Hütte kommst.
10 But the man wouldn’t stay that night, but he rose up and went near Jebus (also called Jerusalem). With him were a couple of saddled donkeys. His concubine also was with him.
Aber der Mann wollte nicht über Nacht bleiben, sondern machte sich auf und zog hin und kam bis vor Jebus, das ist Jerusalem; und seine beiden gesattelten Esel und sein Kebsweib waren bei ihm.
11 When they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, “Please come and let’s enter into this city of the Jebusites, and stay in it.”
Als sie nun in die Nähe von Jebus kamen, war der Tag fast hin. Und der Knabe sprach zu seinem Herrn: Komm doch und laß uns in diese Stadt der Jebusiter einkehren und darin übernachten!
12 His master said to him, “We won’t enter into the city of a foreigner that is not of the children of Israel; but we will pass over to Gibeah.”
Aber sein Herr sprach zu ihm: Wir wollen nicht in eine fremde Stadt einkehren, die nicht zu den Kindern Israel gehört, sondern wollen nach Gibea hinübergehen.
13 He said to his servant, “Come and let’s draw near to one of these places; and we will lodge in Gibeah, or in Ramah.”
Und er sprach zu seinem Knaben: Komm, wir wollen in einer dieser Ortschaften einkehren und über Nacht bleiben, zu Gibea oder zu Rama!
14 So they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down on them near Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin.
Also zogen sie weiter, und die Sonne ging unter gerade bei Gibea, welches zu Benjamin gehört.
15 They went over there, to go in to stay in Gibeah. He went in, and sat down in the street of the city; for there was no one who took them into his house to stay.
So kehrten sie denn daselbst ein, um in Gibea zu übernachten. Als er aber hineinkam, setzte er sich auf dem Platze der Stadt; aber da war niemand, der sie zum Übernachten in sein Haus aufgenommen hätte.
16 Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.
Doch siehe, da kam ein alter Mann am Abend von seiner Arbeit vom Felde, der war auch vom Gebirge Ephraim und ein Fremdling zu Gibea; aber die Leute des Ortes waren Benjaminiten.
17 He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? Where did you come from?”
Als nun der alte Mann seine Augen erhob und den Wanderer auf dem Platze der Stadt sah, sprach er zu ihm: Wo willst du hin, und wo kommst du her?
18 He said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem Judah to the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim. I am from there, and I went to Bethlehem Judah. I am going to the LORD’s house; and there is no one who has taken me into his house.
Er aber antwortete ihm: Wir reisen von Bethlehem-Juda nach dem hintern Teil des Gebirges Ephraim, von wo ich her bin. Ich war nach Bethlehem-Juda gezogen und ziehe jetzt zum Hause des HERRN, und niemand will mich beherbergen.
19 Yet there is both straw and feed for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your servant, and for the young man who is with your servants. There is no lack of anything.”
Wir haben Stroh und Futter für unsre Esel, und Brot und Wein für mich und deine Magd und für den Knaben, der mit deinen Dienern ist, so daß uns nichts mangelt.
20 The old man said, “Peace be to you! Just let me supply all your needs, but don’t sleep in the street.”
Der alte Mann sprach: Friede sei mit dir! Alles, was dir mangelt, findest du bei mir; bleibe nur nicht über Nacht auf dem Platze!
21 So he brought him into his house, and gave the donkeys fodder. Then they washed their feet, and ate and drank.
Und er führte ihn in sein Haus und gab den Eseln Futter; und sie wuschen ihre Füße, aßen und tranken.
22 As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain wicked fellows, surrounded the house, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we can have sex with him!”
Und als ihr Herz guter Dinge war, siehe, da umgaben Männer der Stadt, Kinder Belials, das Haus und stießen an die Tür und sprachen zu dem alten Mann, dem Hauswirt: Bring den Mann heraus, der in dein Haus gekommen ist, daß wir ihn erkennen!
23 The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers, please don’t act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, don’t do this folly.
Aber der Mann, der Hauswirt, ging zu ihnen hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Nicht doch, meine Brüder! Tut doch nicht so übel, nachdem dieser Mann in mein Haus gekommen ist. Begeht doch keine solche Schandtat!
24 Behold, here is my virgin daughter and his concubine. I will bring them out now. Humble them, and do with them what seems good to you; but to this man don’t do any such folly.”
Siehe, ich habe eine Tochter, die noch eine Jungfrau ist, und dieser hat ein Kebsweib; dieselben will ich euch herausbringen; die mögt ihr schwächen und mit ihnen tun, was euch gefällt; aber an diesem Manne begeht keine solche Schandtat!
25 But the men wouldn’t listen to him; so the man grabbed his concubine, and brought her out to them; and they had sex with her, and abused her all night until the morning. When the day began to dawn, they let her go.
Aber die Leute wollten ihm nicht gehorchen. Da faßte der Mann sein Kebsweib und brachte sie zu ihnen hinaus; die erkannten sie und trieben Mutwillen mit ihr die ganze Nacht bis an den Morgen und ließen sie erst los, als die Morgenröte anbrach.
26 Then the woman came in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, until it was light.
Da kam das Weib am Morgen früh und fiel nieder vor der Tür am Hause des Mannes, wo ihr Herr war, und lag daselbst, bis es hell ward.
27 Her lord rose up in the morning and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way; and behold, the woman his concubine had fallen down at the door of the house, with her hands on the threshold.
Als nun ihr Herr am Morgen aufstand und die Tür am Hause auftat und hinausging, um seines Weges zu ziehen, siehe, da lag sein Kebsweib vor der Tür des Hauses mit den Händen auf der Schwelle.
28 He said to her, “Get up, and let’s get going!” but no one answered. Then he took her up on the donkey; and the man rose up, and went to his place.
Er aber sprach zu ihr: Steh auf, wir wollen gehen! Aber da war keine Antwort. Da nahm er sie auf den Esel, machte sich auf und zog an seinen Ort.
29 When he had come into his house, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, and divided her, limb by limb, into twelve pieces, and sent her throughout all the borders of Israel.
Als er heimkam, nahm er ein Messer und faßte sein Kebsweib und zerlegte sie in zwölf Stücke und sandte sie in alle Grenzen Israels.
30 It was so, that all who saw it said, “Such a deed has not been done or seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt to this day! Consider it, take counsel, and speak.”
Und alle, die es sahen, sprachen: Solches ist nicht geschehen noch gesehen worden, seit der Zeit, da die Kinder Israel aus Ägyptenland gezogen sind, bis auf diesen Tag! Nun denket darüber nach, beratet und sprecht euch aus!
