Genesis 29
1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east.
Entonces Jacob prosiguió su viaje, y fue a tierra de los hijos de oriente.
2 He looked, and saw a well in the field, and saw three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.
Miró, y en el campo vio un pozo y tres rebaños de ovejas que descansaban junto a él, porque de aquel pozo solían abrevar los rebaños. Una gran piedra tapaba la boca del pozo.
3 There all the flocks were gathered. They rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone back on the well’s mouth in its place.
Allí se juntaban todos los rebaños. Después de rodar la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, abrevaban las ovejas, después de lo cual devolvían la piedra a su lugar, sobre la boca del pozo.
4 Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”
Jacob les dijo: Hermanos, ¿de dónde son? Y respondieron: Somos de Harán.
5 He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”
Les preguntó: ¿Conocen a Labán, hijo de Nacor? Contestaron: Lo conocemos.
6 He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”
Les dijo: ¿Está en paz? Y ellos dijeron: En paz, y mira, su hija Raquel viene con el rebaño.
7 He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
Él dijo: Miren, todavía es pleno día. Aún no es tiempo de recoger el ganado. Abreven las ovejas y déjenlas pastar.
8 They said, “We can’t, until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth. Then we will water the sheep.”
Pero ellos respondieron: No podemos hasta que todos los rebaños se reúnan. Entonces rodamos la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo y abrevamos las ovejas.
9 While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she kept them.
Cuando él aun hablaba con ellos, Raquel llegó con el rebaño de su padre, pues ella era la pastora.
10 When Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.
Sucedió que cuando Jacob vio a Raquel, hija de Labán, hermano de su madre, y el rebaño de Labán, hermano de su madre, Jacob se acercó y rodó la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo y abrevó el ganado de Labán.
11 Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
Después Jacob besó a Raquel, alzó su voz y lloró.
12 Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s relative, and that he was Rebekah’s son. She ran and told her father.
Jacob le declaró a Raquel que él era pariente de su padre e hijo de Rebeca. Y ella corrió y lo declaró a su padre.
13 When Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister’s son, he ran to meet Jacob, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things.
Aconteció que cuando Labán oyó la noticia con respecto a Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió a su encuentro. Lo abrazó y lo besó efusivamente, y lo llevó a su casa. Y él contó a Labán todas estas cosas.
14 Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” Jacob stayed with him for a month.
Labán le dijo: ¡Ciertamente eres hueso mío y carne mía! Y habitó con él un mes.
15 Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?”
Entonces Labán dijo a Jacob: ¿Me vas a servir sin pago por ser mi pariente? Indícame cuál será tu salario.
16 Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
Labán tenía dos hijas. El nombre de la mayor era Lea, y el de la menor, Raquel.
17 Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and attractive.
Los ojos de Lea eran alicaídos, mientras Raquel era de hermosa apariencia y bello semblante.
18 Jacob loved Rachel. He said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter.”
Jacob se había enamorado de Raquel, de modo que dijo: Te serviré siete años por Raquel, tu hija menor.
19 Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”
Y Labán respondió: Mejor es que te la dé a ti que dársela a otro hombre. Quédate conmigo.
20 Jacob served seven years for Rachel. They seemed to him but a few days, for the love he had for her.
Así Jacob sirvió por Raquel siete años y le parecieron como unos días, porque la amaba.
21 Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.”
Y Jacob dijo a Labán: Dame a mi esposa porque mi plazo se cumplió y deseo unirme a ella.
22 Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
Entonces Labán reunió a todos los varones de aquel lugar e hizo banquete.
23 In the evening, he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to Jacob. He went in to her.
Pero sucedió que al anochecer tomó a su hija Lea y se la llevó, y [Jacob] se unió a ella.
24 Laban gave Zilpah his servant to his daughter Leah for a servant.
Y Labán entregó su esclava Zilpa a su hija Lea como su esclava.
25 In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”
Al llegar la mañana, ¡claro que era Lea! Y él dijo a Labán: ¿Qué es esto que hiciste conmigo? ¿No te serví por Raquel? ¿Por qué me engañaste?
26 Laban said, “It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.
Labán respondió: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la más joven antes que la primogénita.
27 Fulfil the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me for seven more years.”
Completa la semana de ésta y se te dará también la otra, por la labor que harás para mí otros siete años.
28 Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. He gave him Rachel his daughter as wife.
Jacob hizo así y completó la semana de aquélla. Y le dio como esposa a su hija Raquel.
29 Laban gave Bilhah, his servant, to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.
Labán le dio su esclava Bilha a su hija Raquel como esclava suya.
30 He went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him seven more years.
Así se unió también a Raquel y amó más a Raquel que a Lea. Y le sirvió [a Labán] aún otros siete años.
31 The LORD saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
Al ver Yavé que Lea era menospreciada, abrió su matriz, mientras Raquel era estéril.
32 Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, “Because the LORD has looked at my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”
Lea concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Lo llamó Rubén, pues dijo: Yavé vio mi aflicción, y ahora mi esposo me amará.
33 She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also.” She named him Simeon.
Concibió de nuevo y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo: Yavé oyó que era menospreciada y me dio también a éste. Lo llamó Simeón.
34 She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.
Concibió otra vez y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo: Esta vez mi esposo se sentirá ligado a mí, pues le di a luz tres hijos. Por tanto, lo llamó Leví.
35 She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.
Concibió una vez más y dio a luz un hijo, y declaró: Esta vez alabaré a Yavé. Por tanto lo llamó Judá, y dejó de concebir.
