2 Chronicles 13
1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah.
La dix-huitième année du roi Jéroboam, Abia devint roi de Juda.
2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem. Or le nom de sa mère était Michaïa, fille d'Uriel, de Gibea.
3 Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valour.
Et il y eut hostilité entre Abia et Jéroboam. Et Abia ouvrit les hostilités avec une armée de braves guerriers forte de quatre cent mille hommes d'élite, et Jéroboam se rangea en bataille contre lui avec huit cent mille hommes d'une élite de braves guerriers.
4 Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:
Alors Abia se leva debout sur le mont Tsemaraïm situé dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, et dit: Écoutez-moi, Jéroboam et Israël tout entier!
5 Ought you not to know that the LORD, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
N'est-il pas à votre connaissance que l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, a donné à David le royaume d'Israël à perpétuité, à lui et à ses fils, par un pacte solennisé avec le sel?
6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.
Mais Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, serviteur de Salomon, fils de David, s'est soulevé et révolté contre son Seigneur,
7 Worthless men were gathered to him, wicked fellows who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender hearted, and could not withstand them.
et à lui se sont joints des gens légers et des hommes de bas aloi, et ils ont conjuré contre Roboam, fils de Salomon, et Roboam était encore un homme jeune, et faible de cœur, et il ne leur opposa pas de la fermeté.
8 “Now you intend to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David. You are a great multitude, and the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods are with you.
Et maintenant vous pensez tenir tête à la royauté de l'Éternel, qui est dans la main des fils de David, et vous êtes une grande multitude et avez avec vous les veaux d'or dont Jéroboam a fait vos dieux!
9 Haven’t you driven out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves according to the ways of the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of those who are no gods.
N'avez-vous pas expulsé les Prêtres de l'Éternel, les fils d'Aaron, et les Lévites, et vous vous êtes fait des prêtres, comme les peuples des autres pays! Quiconque se présentait pour se faire installer, avec un jeune taureau et sept béliers, devenait prêtre des non-dieux.
10 “But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests serving the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work.
Mais nous! l'Éternel est notre Dieu et nous ne l'avons point abandonné, et des Prêtres, fils d'Aaron, et les Lévites en fonctions vaquent au service de l'Éternel,
11 They burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table, and care for the gold lamp stand with its lamps, to burn every evening; for we keep the instruction of the LORD our God, but you have forsaken him.
et font fumer pour l'Éternel des holocaustes chaque matin et chaque soir et de l'encens odorant, et font la présentation du pain sur la table pure, et [nous avons] le candélabre d'or et ses lampes pour brûler tous les soirs; car nous observons ce qui doit être observé envers l'Éternel, notre Dieu; mais vous, vous l'avez abandonné.
12 Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers; for you will not prosper.”
Et voici avec nous, en tête, nous avons Dieu et ses Prêtres et les trompettes sonores pour les faire résonner contre vous. Enfants d'Israël, ne faites pas la guerre à l'Éternel, Dieu de vos pères, car vous n'auriez pas le succès.
13 But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.
Mais Jéroboam fit manœuvrer les troupes d'embuscade de manière à les prendre par derrière de sorte qu'il y en avait qui faisaient face à Juda et que l'embuscade l'attaquait par derrière.
14 When Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried to the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
Et lorsque Juda tourna les yeux, voila qu'il se vit attaqué par devant et par derrière. Alors ils crièrent vers l'Éternel, et les Prêtres sonnèrent des trompettes;
15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout. As the men of Judah shouted, God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
et les hommes de Juda poussèrent un cri de guerre; et au cri de guerre des hommes de Juda, Dieu défit Jéroboam et tout Israël devant Abia et Juda.
16 The children of Israel fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hand.
Et les enfants d'Israël s'enfuirent devant Juda, et Dieu les livra entre ses mains.
17 Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter, so five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel fell down slain.
Et Abia et sa troupe en firent un grand carnage; et d'Israël tombèrent morts cinq cent mille hommes d'élite.
18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on the LORD, the God of their fathers.
Ainsi furent humiliés les enfants d'Israël en ce temps, tandis que les enfants de Juda devinrent puissants, parce qu'ils s'appuyaient sur l'Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.
19 Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its villages, Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephron with its villages.
Et Abia poursuivit Jéroboam et lui enleva des villes, Béthel et ses annexes et Jesana et ses annexes, et Ephron et ses annexes.
20 Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. The LORD struck him, and he died.
Et Jéroboam resta sans force tant que vécut Abia, et l'Éternel l'ayant frappé, il mourut.
21 But Abijah grew mighty and took for himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.
Et Abia se fortifia et épousa quatorze femmes et engendra vingt-deux fils et seize filles.
22 The rest of the acts of Abijah, his ways, and his sayings are written in the commentary of the prophet Iddo.
Le reste des actes d'Abia et de ses faits et de ses affaires est d'ailleurs consigné dans le commentaire du prophète Iddo.
