Romans 13
1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
Sométase toda persona a las autoridades que gobiernan, porque no hay autoridad sino de Dios. Las que existen son establecidas por Dios.
2 Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgement.
Por esta razón el que se opone a la autoridad resiste a la ordenanza de Dios, y los que resisten serán sometidos a juicio.
3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority,
Porque los gobernantes no son un motivo de temor para el que hace el bien, sino el mal. ¿Quieres no temer a la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás su aprobación.
4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.
Porque es un servidor de Dios para tu bien. Pero si haces lo malo, teme. No en vano lleva la espada, ya que es servidor de Dios que aplica el castigo al que practica lo malo.
5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
Por tanto es necesario que nos sometamos, no solo por causa del castigo, sino también por causa de la conciencia.
6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing.
También por esto ustedes pagan impuestos, porque [se utilizan para sostener a] estos servidores de Dios que se dedican a este oficio.
7 Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honour, then honour.
Paguen a todos lo que les deben: al que [deban] tributo, tributo; al que impuesto, impuesto; al que respeto, respeto; al que honra, honra.
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbour has fulfilled the law.
A nadie deban nada, sino el amarse los unos a los otros. Porque el que ama al prójimo, cumple [la] Ley.
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
Porque: No adulterarás, no asesinarás, no robarás, no codiciarás, y cualquier otro Mandamiento se resume en esto: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbour. Love therefore is the fulfilment of the law.
El que ama no hace mal al prójimo. Así que el que ama cumple [la] Ley.
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
[Hagan] esto pues conocen el tiempo. Es hora de despertar del sueño, porque ahora la salvación está más cerca de nosotros que cuando creímos.
12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armour of light.
La noche pasó y llegó el día. [Es tiempo de ]que nos despojemos de las obras de la oscuridad, de que tomemos las armas de la luz,
13 Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
de que vivamos decentemente, como de día, no en orgías y borracheras, ni en pecados sexuales y sensualidades, ni en contienda y envidia.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
Más bien, vístanse del Señor Jesucristo. No hagan provisión para los deseos apasionados de la naturaleza humana.
