< Psalms 123 >

1 A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to you, you who sit in the heavens.
“A song of the degrees.” Unto thee do I lift up my eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD, our God, until he has mercy on us.
Behold, as the eyes of servants are directed unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress: thus are our eyes directed unto the Lord our God, until he be gracious unto us.
3 Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.
Be gracious unto us, O Lord! be gracious unto us; for we are overburdened with contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.
Our soul is overburdened with the scorn of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud oppressors.
