Proverbs 14
1 Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.
Toda mulher sábia edifica sua casa; porém a tola a derruba com suas mãos.
2 He who walks in his uprightness fears the LORD, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.
Aquele que anda corretamente teme ao SENHOR; mas o que se desvia de seus caminhos o despreza.
3 The fool’s talk brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them.
Na boca do tolo está a vara da arrogância, porém os lábios dos sábios os protegem.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean, but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
Não havendo bois, o celeiro fica limpo; mas pela força do boi há uma colheita abundante.
5 A truthful witness will not lie, but a false witness pours out lies.
A testemunha verdadeira não mentirá, mas a testemunha falsa declara mentiras.
6 A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn’t find it, but knowledge comes easily to a discerning person.
O zombador busca sabedoria, mas não [acha] nenhuma; mas o conhecimento é fácil para o prudente.
7 Stay away from a foolish man, for you won’t find knowledge on his lips.
Afasta-te do homem tolo, porque [nele] não encontrarás lábios inteligentes.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.
A sabedoria do prudente é entender seu caminho; mas a loucura dos tolos é engano.
9 Fools mock at making atonement for sins, but amongst the upright there is good will.
Os tolos zombam da culpa, mas entre os corretos está o favor.
10 The heart knows its own bitterness and joy; he will not share these with a stranger.
O coração conhece sua [própria] amargura, e o estranho não pode partilhar sua alegria.
11 The house of the wicked will be overthrown, but the tent of the upright will flourish.
A casa dos perversos será destruída, mas a tenda dos corretos florescerá.
12 There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
Há um caminho que [parece] correto para o homem, porém o fim dele são caminhos de morte.
13 Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful, and mirth may end in heaviness.
Até no riso o coração terá dor, e o fim da alegria é a tristeza.
14 The unfaithful will be repaid for his own ways; likewise a good man will be rewarded for his ways.
Quem se desvia de coração será cheio de seus próprios caminhos, porém o homem de bem [será recompensado] pelos seus.
15 A simple man believes everything, but the prudent man carefully considers his ways.
O ingênuo crê em toda palavra, mas o prudente pensa cuidadosamente sobre seus passos.
16 A wise man fears and shuns evil, but the fool is hot headed and reckless.
O sábio teme, e se afasta do mal; porém o tolo se precipita e se acha seguro.
17 He who is quick to become angry will commit folly, and a crafty man is hated.
Quem se ira rapidamente faz loucuras, e o homem de maus pensamentos será odiado.
18 The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Os ingênuos herdarão a tolice, mas os prudentes serão coroados [com] o conhecimento.
19 The evil bow down before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
Os maus se inclinarão perante a face dos bons, e os perversos diante das portas do justo.
20 The poor person is shunned even by his own neighbour, but the rich person has many friends.
O pobre é odiado até pelo seu próximo, porém os amigos dos ricos são muitos.
21 He who despises his neighbour sins, but he who has pity on the poor is blessed.
Quem despreza a seu próximo, peca; mas aquele que demonstra misericórdia aos humildes [é] bem-aventurado.
22 Don’t they go astray who plot evil? But love and faithfulness belong to those who plan good.
Por acaso não andam errados os que tramam o mal? Mas [há] bondade e fidelidade para os que planejam o bem.
23 In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.
Em todo trabalho cansativo há proveito, mas o falar dos lábios só [leva] à pobreza.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches, but the folly of fools crowns them with folly.
A coroa dos sábios é a sua riqueza; a loucura dos tolos é loucura.
25 A truthful witness saves souls, but a false witness is deceitful.
A testemunha verdadeira livra almas, mas aquele que declara mentiras é enganador.
26 In the fear of the LORD is a secure fortress, and he will be a refuge for his children.
No temor ao SENHOR [há] forte confiança; e será refúgio para seus filhos.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning people from the snares of death.
O temor ao SENHOR é manancial de vida, para se desviar dos laços da morte.
28 In the multitude of people is the king’s glory, but in the lack of people is the destruction of the prince.
Na multidão do povo está a honra do rei, mas a falta de gente é a ruína do príncipe.
29 He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.
Quem demora para se irar tem muito entendimento, mas aquele de espírito impetuoso exalta a loucura.
30 The life of the body is a heart at peace, but envy rots the bones.
O coração em paz é vida para o corpo, mas a inveja é [como] podridão nos ossos.
31 He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honours him.
Quem oprime ao pobre insulta ao seu Criador; mas aquele que mostra compaixão ao necessitado o honra.
32 The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.
Por sua malícia, o perverso é excluído; porém o justo [até] em sua morte mantém a confiança.
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, and is even made known in the inward part of fools.
No coração do prudente repousa a sabedoria; mas ela será conhecida até entre os tolos.
34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
A justiça exalta a nação, mas o pecado é a desgraça dos povos.
35 The king’s favour is towards a servant who deals wisely, but his wrath is towards one who causes shame.
O rei se agrada do seu servo prudente; porém ele mostrará seu furor ao causador de vergonha.
