James 5
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you.
Wohlan, ihr Reichen! Weint und klagt über alles Elend, das über euch kommt.
2 Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten.
Vermodert ist euer Reichtum, und eure Kleider sind zerfressen von den Motten,
3 Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.
euer Gold und Silber ist verrostet; es wird ihr Rost noch gegen euch zeugen und euren Leib wie Feuer fressen. Noch in den "Letzten Tagen" habt ihr Reichtümer gesammelt.
4 Behold, the wages of the labourers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies.
Seht, es schreit der von euch vorenthaltene Lohn der Arbeiter, die eure Felder abgeerntet haben, und dieser Klageschrei der Schnitter drang zu den Ohren des Herrn der Heerscharen.
5 You have lived in luxury on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
Ihr habt geschwelgt auf Erden und gepraßt, habt euch gemästet noch am "Schlachttag".
6 You have condemned and you have murdered the righteous one. He doesn’t resist you.
Den Gerechten aber habt ihr verurteilt und gemordet; er leistet euch ja keinen Widerstand.
7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain.
So harret, meine Brüder, denn geduldig aus bis zu der Ankunft des Herrn. Seht, der Landmann wartet auf die kostbare Frucht der Erde; er wartet in Geduld, bis er den Früh- und Spätregen erhalten hat.
8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
So haltet auch ihr geduldig aus und richtet eure Herzen auf; die Ankunft des Herrn ist nahe.
9 Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door.
Murrt, meine Brüder, nicht gegeneinander, damit ihr nicht gerichtet werdet. Seht, der Richter steht schon vor der Tür.
10 Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
Brüder, nehmt im Leiden und im Dulden die Propheten, die im Namen des Herrn geredet haben, zum Vorbild.
11 Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
Seht, wir preisen die selig, die ausgeharrt haben. Ihr habt von der Geduld des Job gehört und habt gesehen, welchen Ausgang der Herr gegeben hat; denn der Herr ist voll Erbarmen und Mitleid.
12 But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear—not by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes”, and your “no”, “no”, so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.
Vor allem, meine Brüder, sollt ihr nicht schwören. Nicht bei dem Himmel und nicht bei der Erde, noch einen anderen Eid. Es sei bei euch das Ja ein Ja und euer Nein ein Nein, damit ihr nicht dem Gerichte verfallet.
13 Is any amongst you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises.
Leidet jemand unter euch, so soll er beten. Geht es einem gut, alsdann lobsinge er.
14 Is any amongst you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
Ist einer bei euch krank, er rufe die Presbyter der Kirche zu sich; sie sollen über ihn beten und ihn dabei mit Öl salben im Namen des Herrn.
15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Das gläubige Gebet wird dem Kranken zum Heile sein; der Herr wird ihn aufrichten, und wenn er Sünden begangen hat, so werden sie ihm vergeben werden.
16 Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.
Bekennet also einander eure Sünden und betet füreinander, damit ihr geheilt werdet. Viel vermag ja das anhaltende Gebet eines Gerechten.
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.
Elias war ein Mensch gleicher Art wie wir; er betete inständig, daß es nicht regnen möge; und es regnete im Lande drei Jahre und sechs Monate nicht.
18 He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
Er betete dann abermals, und alsbald gab der Himmel Regen, und die Erde brachte ihre Frucht.
19 Brothers, if any amongst you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back,
Meine Brüder! Irrt einer unter euch von der Wahrheit ab und führt ihn jemand dann zurück,
20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
der wisse, wer einen Sünder von seinem Irrweg zurückführt, der rettet seine Seele vom Tod und deckt eine Menge Sünden zu.
