Acts 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Mais un homme nommé Ananias, avec Sapphira sa femme, vendit une propriété,
2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it, then brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
et il retint le prix de complicité avec sa femme, et, en ayant apporté une partie, il la déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land?
Mais Pierre dit: « Ananias, pourquoi Satan a-t-il rempli ton cœur, pour que tu mentisses à l'esprit saint en retenant le prix du fonds de terre?
4 While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”
Est-ce qu'invendu, il ne te demeurait pas, et vendu, n'était-il pas à ta disposition? Pourquoi as-tu pris ce parti en ton cœur? Ce n'est pas aux hommes que tu as menti, mais à Dieu. »
5 Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. Great fear came on all who heard these things.
Or, en entendant ces paroles, Ananias tomba et expira. Et une grande crainte se répandit parmi tous les auditeurs.
6 The young men arose and wrapped him up, and they carried him out and buried him.
Cependant les plus jeunes s'étant levés l'enveloppèrent d'un linceul, et, l'ayant emporté, ils l'enterrèrent.
7 About three hours later, his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
Or il arriva, après un intervalle d'environ trois heures, que sa femme, ignorant ce qui était advenu, entra;
8 Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” She said, “Yes, for so much.”
et Pierre s'adressant à elle: « Dis-moi si c'est pour ce prix-là que vous avez vendu le fonds de terre? » Et elle dit: « Oui, c'est pour ce prix-là. »
9 But Peter asked her, “How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”
Sur quoi Pierre dit: « Pourquoi vous êtes-vous concertés pour tenter l'esprit du Seigneur? Voici, les pieds de ceux qui ont enterré ton mari sont à la porte, et ils t'emporteront aussi. »
10 She fell down immediately at his feet and died. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.
Or elle tomba aussitôt à ses pieds, et elle expira; mais les jeunes gens étant entrés la trouvèrent morte, et, l'ayant emportée, ils l'enterrèrent auprès de son mari.
11 Great fear came on the whole assembly, and on all who heard these things.
Et une grande crainte se répandit dans toute l'église, et parmi tous ceux qui entendaient parler de ces choses.
12 By the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done amongst the people. They were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
Or il se faisait par les apôtres de nombreux miracles et de nombreux prodiges parmi le peuple; et ils se tenaient tous ensemble dans le portique de Salomon;
13 None of the rest dared to join them; however, the people honoured them.
toutefois aucun des autres n'osait s'attacher à eux, mais le peuple les exaltait.
14 More believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women.
Cependant il s'agrégeait toujours plus de gens qui croyaient au Seigneur, des multitudes d'hommes et de femmes;
15 They even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mattresses, so that as Peter came by, at least his shadow might overshadow some of them.
en sorte que l'on apportait les malades même dans les rues, et qu'on les plaçait sur des couchettes et des grabats, afin que, au passage de Pierre, son ombre tout au moins couvrît quelqu'un d'eux.
16 The multitude also came together from the cities around Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits; and they were all healed.
Or la multitude des villes voisines accourait aussi à Jérusalem, apportant des malades et des gens tourmentés par des esprits impurs, qui tous étaient guéris.
17 But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy
Mais le grand prêtre s'étant levé, ainsi que tous les adhérents qui formaient le parti des sadducéens, ils furent remplis de jalousie;
18 and laid hands on the apostles, then put them in public custody.
et ils mirent les mains sur les apôtres, et ils les jetèrent dans une prison publique.
19 But an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out and said,
Mais un ange du Seigneur ouvrit de nuit les portes de la prison, et, les en ayant tirés, il dit:
20 “Go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”
« Allez, et, vous tenant dans le temple, annoncez au temple toutes les paroles de cette vie. »
21 When they heard this, they entered into the temple about daybreak and taught. But the high priest and those who were with him came and called the council together, with all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Ce qu'ayant ouï, ils entrèrent au point du jour dans le temple, et ils enseignaient. Cependant le grand prêtre et ses adhérents s'étant réunis convoquèrent le sanhédrin et toute l'assemblée sénatorienne des fils d'Israël, et ils envoyèrent à la prison, pour qu'on les amenât.
22 But the officers who came didn’t find them in the prison. They returned and reported,
Mais, quand les satellites furent arrivés à la prison, ils ne les y trouvèrent point, et ils revinrent faire leur rapport, en disant:
23 “We found the prison shut and locked, and the guards standing before the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside!”
« Nous avons trouvé la prison fermée avec le plus grand soin, et les gardes debout devant les portes, mais, après avoir ouvert, nous n'avons trouvé dedans personne, »
24 Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about them and what might become of this.
Quand le chef des gardes du temple et les grands prêtres eurent ouï ces paroles, ils étaient incertains, par rapport à eux, de ce que cela deviendrait.
25 One came and told them, “Behold, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.”
Mais quelqu'un étant survenu leur fit ce rapport: « Voici, les hommes que vous avez mis en prison sont dans le temple et ils enseignent le peuple. »
26 Then the captain went with the officers, and brought them without violence, for they were afraid that the people might stone them.
Alors le chef des gardes étant parti avec ses satellites les ramena toutefois sans violence, car ils craignaient d'être lapidés par le peuple,
27 When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them,
et, les ayant amenés, ils les firent comparaître devant le sanhédrin. Et le grand prêtre les interrogea en disant:
28 saying, “Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”
« Nous vous avons formellement défendu d'enseigner en ce nom-là, et voici, vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre enseignement, et vous voulez faire retomber sur nous le sang de cet homme-là. »
29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
Mais Pierre et les apôtres répliquèrent: « Il faut obéir à Dieu plutôt qu'aux hommes.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a tree.
Le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité Jésus que vous aviez tué en le pendant au bois;
31 God exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.
c'est lui que Dieu a élevé à Sa droite comme prince et sauveur, pour donner à Israël la repentance et la rémission des péchés;
32 We are his witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
et c'est en sa personne que nous avons été témoins de ce que nous venons de dire, et Dieu a donné l'esprit saint à ceux qui lui obéissent. »
33 But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and were determined to kill them.
Ce qu'ayant ouï, ils en étaient furieux, et ils voulaient les faire périr.
34 But one stood up in the council, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, honoured by all the people, and commanded to put the apostles out for a little while.
Mais un certain pharisien, nommé Gamaliel, docteur de la loi fort estimé de tout le peuple, se leva dans le sanhédrin et demanda qu'on fit sortir pour un instant ces hommes;
35 He said to them, “You men of Israel, be careful concerning these men, what you are about to do.
puis il leur dit: « Israélites, prenez garde à ce que vous allez faire relativement à ces hommes-là.
36 For before these days Theudas rose up, making himself out to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves. He was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed and came to nothing.
En effet, il y a quelque temps qu'a surgi Theudas, qui se donnait pour un personnage important et auquel s'étaient ralliés environ quatre cents hommes; il a été tué, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi ont été mis en déroute et se sont réduits à rien.
37 After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the enrolment, and drew away some people after him. He also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.
Après celui-là a surgi Judas le Galiléen, à l'époque du recensement, et il a entraîné du monde après lui; lui aussi a péri, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi ont été dispersés.
38 Now I tell you, withdraw from these men and leave them alone. For if this counsel or this work is of men, it will be overthrown.
Et maintenant je vous dis: Renoncez à vous occuper de ces hommes-là, et laissez-les aller, — car si cette entreprise ou cette œuvre vient des hommes, elle sera détruite,
39 But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it, and you would be found even to be fighting against God!”
mais si elle vient de Dieu, vous ne pourrez les détruire, — de peur de vous montrer aussi les adversaires de Dieu. »
40 They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
Or ils se laissèrent persuader par lui, et ayant rappelé les apôtres, ils leur ordonnèrent, après les avoir fait fustiger, de ne point parler au nom de Jésus et ils les relâchèrent.
41 They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonour for Jesus’ name.
Pour eux donc, ils se retiraient joyeux de devant le sanhédrin, parce qu'ils avaient été jugés dignes d'être traités avec ignominie pour le nom;
42 Every day, in the temple and at home, they never stopped teaching and preaching Jesus, the Christ.
et ils ne cessaient, chaque jour, d'enseigner et d'annoncer la bonne nouvelle de Christ Jésus, dans le temple et dans les maisons.
