Matthew 5
1 Seeing the multitude of people, Jesus went up the Hill. There He seated Himself, and when His disciples came to Him,
Y viendo la multitud, subió en el monte; y sentándose, se llegaron a él sus discípulos.
2 He proceeded to teach them, and said:
Y abriendo su boca, les enseñaba, diciendo:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu; porque de ellos es el Reino de los cielos.
4 "Blessed are the mourners, for they shall be comforted.
Bienaventurados los que lloran (enlutados), porque ellos recibirán consolación.
5 "Blessed are the meek, for they as heirs shall obtain possession of the earth.
Bienaventurados los mansos; porque ellos recibirán la tierra por heredad.
6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be completely satisfied.
Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia (o rectitud), porque ellos serán saciados.
7 "Blessed are the compassionate, for they shall receive compassion.
Bienaventurados los misericordiosos; porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.
8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón; porque ellos verán a Dios.
9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for it is they who will be recognized as sons of God.
Bienaventurados los pacificadores; porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
10 "Blessed are those who have borne persecution in the cause of Righteousness, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia (o rectitud), porque de ellos es el Reino de los cielos.
11 "Blessed are you when they have insulted and persecuted you, and have said every cruel thing about you falsely for my sake.
Bienaventurados sois cuando os vituperen y os persigan, y se dijere toda clase de mal de vosotros por mi causa, mintiendo.
12 Be joyful and triumphant, because your reward is great in the Heavens; for so were the Prophets before you persecuted.
Gozaos y alegraos; porque vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; que así persiguieron a los profetas que estuvieron antes de vosotros.
13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has become tasteless, in what way can it regain its saltness? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown away and trodden on by the passers by.
Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra; y si la sal se perdiere su sabor ¿con qué será salada? No vale más para nada, sino para ser echada fuera y hollada por los hombres.
14 You are the light of the world; a town cannot be hid if built on a hill-top.
Vosotros sois la luz del mundo; una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder.
15 Nor is a lamp lighted to be put under a bushel, but on the lampstand; and then it gives light to all in the house.
Ni se enciende la lámpara y se pone debajo de un almud, sino en el candelero, y alumbra a todos los que están en la casa.
16 Just so let your light shine before all men, in order that they may see your holy lives and may give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.
Así alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras obras buenas, y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.
17 "Do not for a moment suppose that I have come to abrogate the Law or the Prophets: I have not come to abrogate them but to give them their completion.
No penséis que he venido para desatar la ley o los profetas; no he venido para desatarla, sino para cumplirla.
18 Solemnly I tell you that until Heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or smallest detail will pass away from the Law until all has taken place.
Porque de cierto os digo, que hasta que perezca el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota ni una tilde perecerá de la Ley, hasta que todas las cosas sean cumplidas.
19 Whoever therefore breaks one of these least commandments and teaches others to break them, will be called the least in the Kingdom of the Heavens; but whoever practises them and teaches them, he will be acknowledged as great in the Kingdom of the Heavens.
De manera que cualquiera que desatare uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñare a los hombres, muy pequeño será llamado en el Reino de los cielos; mas cualquiera que los hiciere y los enseñare, éste será llamado grande en el Reino de los cielos.
20 For I assure you that unless your righteousness greatly surpasses that of the Scribes and the Pharisees, you will certainly not find entrance into the Kingdom of the Heavens.
Porque os digo, que si vuestra justicia (rectitud) no fuere mayor que la de los escribas y de los fariseos, no entraréis en el Reino de los cielos.
21 "You have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not commit murder', and whoever commits murder will be answerable to the magistrate.
Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No matarás; y cualquiera que matare, será culpado del juicio.
22 But I say to you that every one who becomes angry with his brother shall be answerable to the magistrate; that whoever says to his brother 'Raca,' shall be answerable to the Sanhedrin; and that whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be liable to the Gehenna of Fire. (Geenna g1067)
Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que se enojare descontroladamente con su hermano, será culpado del juicio; y cualquiera que dijere a su hermano: Raca, será culpado del concejo; y cualquiera que dijere: Fatuo, será culpado del quemadero del fuego. (Geenna g1067)
23 If therefore when you are offering your gift upon the altar, you remember that your brother has a grievance against you,
Por tanto, si trajeres tu presente al altar, y allí te acordares de que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti,
24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go and make friends with your brother first, and then return and proceed to offer your gift.
deja allí tu presente delante del altar, y ve, vuelve primero en amistad con tu hermano, y entonces ven y ofrece tu presente.
25 Come to terms without delay with your opponent while you are yet with him on the way to the court; for fear he should obtain judgement from the magistrate against you, and the magistrate should give you in custody to the officer and you be thrown into prison.
Concíliate con tu adversario presto, entre tanto que estás con él en el camino; para que no acontezca que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez te entregue al alguacil, y seas echado en prisión.
26 I solemnly tell you that you will certainly not be released till you have paid the very last farthing.
De cierto te digo, que no saldrás de allí, hasta que pagues el último cuadrante.
27 "You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery.'
Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No adulterarás.
28 But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts has already in his heart become guilty with regard to her.
Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que mira a la mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón.
29 If therefore your eye, even the right eye, is a snare to you, tear it out and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should be thrown into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
Por tanto, si tu ojo derecho te fuere ocasión de caer, sácalo, y échalo de ti; que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al quemadero. (Geenna g1067)
30 And if your right hand is a snare to you, cut it off and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should go into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
Y si tu mano derecha te fuere ocasión de caer, córtala, y échala de ti; que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al quemadero. (Geenna g1067)
31 "It was also said, 'If any man puts away his wife, let him give her a written notice of divorce.'
También fue dicho: Cualquiera que repudiare a su mujer, déle carta de divorcio.
32 But I tell you that every man who puts away his wife except on the ground of unfaithfulness causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her when so divorced commits adultery.
Mas yo os digo, que el que repudiare a su mujer, fuera de causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere; y el que se casare con la repudiada, comete adulterio.
33 "Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not swear falsely, but shalt perform thy vows to the Lord.'
Además habéis oído que fue dicho a los antiguos: No te perjurarás; mas pagarás al Señor tus juramentos.
34 But I tell you not to swear at all; neither by Heaven, for it is God's throne;
Mas yo os digo: No juréis en ninguna manera; ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios;
35 nor by the earth, for it is the footstool under His feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the City of the Great King.
ni por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies; ni por Jerusalén, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey.
36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
Ni por tu cabeza jurarás, porque no puedes hacer un cabello blanco o negro.
37 But let your language be, 'Yes, yes,' or 'No, no.' Anything in excess of this comes from the Evil one.
Mas sea vuestro hablar: Sí, sí; no, no; porque lo que es más de esto, de mal procede.
38 "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.'
Oísteis que fue dicho: Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente.
39 But I tell you not to resist a wicked man, but if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him as well.
Mas yo os digo: No resistáis con mal; antes a cualquiera que te hiriere en tu mejilla diestra, vuélvele también la otra;
40 If any one wishes to go to law with you and to deprive you of your under garment, let him take your outer one also.
y al que quisiere ponerte a pleito y tomarte tu ropa, déjale también la capa;
41 And whoever shall compel you to convey his goods one mile, go with him two.
y a cualquiera que te cargare por una milla, ve con él dos.
42 To him who asks, give: from him who would borrow, turn not away.
Al que te pidiere, dale; y al que quisiere tomar de ti prestado, no se lo rehuses.
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.'
Oísteis que fue dicho: Amarás a tu prójimo, y aborrecerás a tu enemigo.
44 But I command you all, love your enemies, and pray for your persecutors;
Mas yo os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos, bendecid a los que os maldicen, haced bien a los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os calumnian y os persiguen;
45 that so you may become true sons of your Father in Heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the wicked as well as the good, and sends rain upon those who do right and those who do wrong.
para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos; que hace que su sol salga sobre malos y buenos, y llueva sobre justos e injustos.
46 For if you love only those who love you, what reward have you earned? Do not even the tax-gatherers do that?
Porque si amareis a los que os aman, ¿qué salario tendréis? ¿No hacen también lo mismo los publicanos?
47 And if you salute only your near relatives, what praise is due to you? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
Y si abrazareis a vuestros hermanos solamente, ¿qué hacéis de más? ¿No hacen también así los publicanos?
48 You however are to be complete in goodness, as your Heavenly Father is complete.
Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto.
