Matthew 3
1 About this time John the Baptist made his appearance, preaching in the Desert of Judaea.
ആ കാലത്തു യോഹന്നാൻസ്നാപകൻ വന്നു, യെഹൂദ്യമരുഭൂമിയിൽ പ്രസംഗിച്ചു:
2 "Repent," he said, "for the Kingdom of the Heavens is now close at hand."
സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യം സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കയാൽ മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
3 He it is who was spoken of through the Prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying aloud, 'In the desert prepare ye a road for the Lord: make His highway straight.'"
“മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതു: കർത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കി അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിൻ” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാ പ്രവാചകൻ പറഞ്ഞവൻ ഇവൻ തന്നേ.
4 This man John wore a garment of camel's hair, and a loincloth of leather; and he lived upon locusts and wild honey.
യോഹന്നാന്നു ഒട്ടകരോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉടുപ്പും അരയിൽ തോൽവാറും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ആഹാരമോ വെട്ടുക്കിളിയും കാട്ടുതേനും ആയിരുന്നു.
5 Then large numbers of people went out to him--people from Jerusalem and from all Judaea, and from the whole of the Jordan valley--
അന്നു യെരൂശലേമ്യരും യെഹൂദ്യദേശക്കാരൊക്കയും യോർദ്ദാന്റെ ഇരുകരെയുമുള്ള എല്ലാ നാട്ടുകാരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു
6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, making full confession of their sins.
തങ്ങളുടെ പാപങ്ങളെ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു യോർദ്ദാൻനദിയിൽ അവനാൽ സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he exclaimed, "O vipers' brood, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
തന്റെ സ്നാനത്തിന്നായി പരീശരിലും സദൂക്യരിലും പലർ വരുന്നതു കണ്ടാറെ അവൻ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: സർപ്പസന്തതികളെ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു ഓടിപ്പോകുവാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആർ?
8 Therefore let your lives prove your change of heart;
മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായ്പിൻ.
9 and do not imagine that you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our forefather,' for I tell you that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones.
അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങൾക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഉള്ളംകൊണ്ടു പറവാൻ തുനിയരുതു; ഈ കല്ലുകളിൽ നിന്നു അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാൻ ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
10 And already the axe is lying at the root of the trees, so that every tree which does not produce good fruit will quickly be hewn down and thrown into the fire.
ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ലഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയിൽ ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.
11 I indeed am baptizing you in water on a profession of repentance; but He who is coming after me is mightier than I: His sandals I am not worthy to carry for a moment; He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നായി വെള്ളത്തിൽ സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കുന്നതേയുള്ളു; എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നവനോ എന്നെക്കാൾ ബലവാൻ ആകുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പു ചുമപ്പാൻ ഞാൻ മതിയായവനല്ല; അവൻ നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിലും തീയിലും സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കും.
12 His winnowing-shovel is in His hand, and He will make a thorough clearance of His threshing-floor, gathering His wheat into the storehouse, but burning up the chaff in unquenchable fire."
വീശുമുറം അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഉണ്ടു; അവൻ കളത്തെ മുറ്റും വെടിപ്പാക്കി കോതമ്പു കളപ്പുരയിൽ കൂട്ടിവെക്കയും പതിർ കെടാത്ത തീയിൽ ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും ചെയ്യും.
13 Just at that time Jesus, coming from Galilee to the Jordan, presents Himself to John to be baptized by him.
അനന്തരം യേശു യോഹന്നാനാൽ സ്നാനം ഏല്ക്കുവാൻ ഗലീലയിൽ നിന്നു യോർദ്ദാൻകരെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു.
14 John protested. "It is I," he said, "who have need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"
യോഹന്നാനോ അവനെ വിലക്കി: നിന്നാൽ സ്നാനം ഏല്ക്കുവാൻ എനിക്കു ആവശ്യം; പിന്നെ നീ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്നുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
15 "Let it be so on this occasion," Jesus replied; "for so we ought to fulfil every religious duty." Then he consented;
യേശു അവനോടു: ഇപ്പോൾ സമ്മതിക്ക; ഇങ്ങനെ സകലനീതിയും നിവർത്തിക്കുന്നതു നമുക്കു ഉചിതം എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാറെ അവൻ അവനെ സമ്മതിച്ചു.
16 and Jesus was baptized, and immediately went up from the water. At that moment the heavens opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him,
യേശു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റ ഉടനെ വെള്ളത്തിൽനിന്നു കയറി; അപ്പോൾ സ്വർഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു ദൈവാത്മാവു പ്രാവെന്നപോലെ ഇറങ്ങി തന്റെ മേൽ വരുന്നതു അവൻ കണ്ടു;
17 while a voice came from Heaven, saying, "This is My Son, the dearly loved, in whom is My delight."
ഇവൻ എന്റെ പ്രിയപുത്രൻ; ഇവനിൽ ഞാൻ പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.
