< Matthew 2 >
1 Now after the birth of Jesus, which took place at Bethlehem in Judaea in the reign of King Herod, excitement was produced in Jerusalem by the arrival of certain Magi from the east,
Bangʼ kane osenywol Yesu e dala mar Bethlehem e piny Judea, e ndalo loch Ruoth Herode, Joma Riek moko moa yo wuok chiengʼ nobiro Jerusalem,
2 inquiring, "Where is the newly born king of the Jews? For we have seen his Star in the east, and have come here to do him homage."
mi openjo niya, “Ere jal mosenywol mondo obed ruodh jo-Yahudi? Ne waneno sulwene yo wuok chiengʼ kendo wasebiro mondo walame.”
3 Reports of this soon reached the king, and greatly agitated not only him but all the people of Jerusalem.
Kane Ruoth Herode owinjo wachno, chunye nochandore, en kaachiel gi ji duto modak Jerusalem.
4 So he assembled all the High Priests and Scribes of the people, and anxiously asked them where the Christ was to be born.
Kane oseluongo jodolo madongo gi jopuonj chik duto mane otelo ne ji, nopenjogi kama nowinjore nywolie Kristo, Mesia.
5 "At Bethlehem in Judaea," they replied; "for so it stands written in the words of the Prophet,
Negidwoke niya, “E Bethlehem manie piny Judea, nikech janabi nondiko kama:
6 "'And thou, Bethlehem in the land of Judah, by no means the least honorable art thou among princely places in Judah! For from thee shall come a prince--one who shall be the Shepherd of My People Israel.'"
“‘To in, Bethlehem, manie piny Juda, ok itin ngangʼ e dier jotelo mag Juda; nikech kuomi ema jatelo mabiro kwayo joga ma jo-Israel biro ae.’”
7 Thereupon Herod sent privately for the Magi and ascertained from them the exact time of the star's appearing.
Eka Herode noluongo ajuokego lingʼ-lingʼ, kendo ne ononogi, mi neginyise kinde nogono mane sulwe onenore.
8 He then directed them to go to Bethlehem, adding, "Go and make careful inquiry about the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and do him homage."
Ne oorogi Bethlehem, kowacho niya, “Dhiuru kendo umany nyathino maber. E sa ma uyudeno to duognauru wach mondo an bende adhi alame.”
9 After hearing what the king said, they went to Bethlehem, while, strange to say, the star they had seen in the east led them on until it came and stood over the place where the babe was.
Kane gisewinjo wach ruoth, negichako wuodhgi mi gidhi, kendo sulwe mane oyudo giseneno yo wuok chiengʼ notelonigi nyaka nochopo mi ochungʼ ewi kama ne nyathi nitie.
10 When they saw the star, the sight filled them with intense joy.
Kane gineno sulweno, negibedo moil.
11 So they entered the house; and when they saw the babe with His mother Mary, they prostrated themselves and did Him homage, and opening their treasure-chests offered gifts to Him--gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
To kane gichopo ei ot, negineno nyathino kod Maria min mare, kendo negikulore piny ka gilame. Bangʼe ne giyawo mwandugi kendo negimiye mich mag dhahabu, gi ubani gi mane-mane.
12 But being forbidden by God in a dream to return to Herod, they went back to their own country by a different route.
To kaka nosesiemgi e lek ni kik gidog ir Herode, negidok thurgi gi yo machielo.
13 When they were gone, and angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise: take the babe and His mother and escape to Egypt, and remain there till I bring you word. For Herod is about to make search for the child in order to destroy Him."
Bangʼ kane gisedhi, malaika mar Ruoth nofwenyore ne Josef e lek. Nowachone niya, “Aa malo ikaw nyathi gi min mare mondo itony idhi Misri. Dag kuno nyaka aduogni wach, nikech Herode biro manyo nyathini mondo onege.”
14 So Joseph roused himself and took the babe and His mother by night and departed into Egypt.
Omiyo noa malo gotieno mi okawo nyathi gi min mare kendo nowuok modhi Misri,

16 Then Herod, finding that the Magi had trifled with him, was furious, and sent and massacred all the boys under two years of age, in Bethlehem and all its neighbourhood, according to the date he had so carefully ascertained from the Magi.
Ka Herode nofwenyo ni Ajuokego nosewuonde, iye nowangʼ matek, kendo nogolo chik mondo onegi nyithindo ma yawuowi duto modak Bethlehem gi mier molwore, mane hikgi ariyo kadok chien, kaluwore gi sa mane Ajuokego onyise.
17 Then were these words, spoken by the Prophet Jeremiah, fulfilled,
Eka gima Nyasaye nomiyo janabi Jeremia owacho nochopo kare:
18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and bitter lamentation: It was Rachel bewailing her children, and she refused to be comforted because there were no more."
“Dwol winjore Rama, en ywak gi nduru malich, Rael ywago nyithinde kendo odagi ni ok nyal hoye, nikech gisetho.”
19 But after Herod's death an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and said to him,
Bangʼ ka Herode nosetho, malaika mar Ruoth nofwenyore ne Josef e lek ka en Misri kuno,
20 "Rise from sleep, and take the child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child's life are dead."
kendo nowachone niya, “Aa malo ikaw nyathi kod min mare mondo idhi e piny Israel, nikech joma netemo kawo ngima nyathi osetho.”
21 So he roused himself and took the child and His mother and came into the land of Israel.
Omiyo noa malo, mokawo nyathi gi min mare, kendo nodhi e piny Israel.
22 But hearing that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod on the throne of Judaea, he was afraid to go there; and being instructed by God in a dream he withdrew into Galilee,
