Matthew 11
1 When Jesus had concluded His instructions to His twelve disciples, He left in order to teach and to proclaim His Message in the neighbouring towns.
І сталось, як скінчив Ісус, наказуючи дванайцятьом ученикам своїм, пійшов звіділя навчати й проповідувати по городах їх.
2 Now John had heard in prison about the Christ's doings, and he sent some of his disciples to inquire:
Почувши ж Йоан у темниці про дїла Христові, дослав двох учеників своїх,
3 "Are you the Coming One, or is it a different person that we are to expect?"
сказати Йому: Чи ти грядущий, чи иншого ждати нам?
4 "Go and report to John what you see and hear," replied Jesus;
Одказав Ісус і рече їм: Ійдїть та сповістіть Йоана про все, що чули й бачили:
5 "blind eyes receive sight, and cripples walk; lepers are cleansed, and deaf ears hear; the dead are raised to life, and the poor have the Good News proclaimed to them;
сліпі бачять, і криві ходять, прокажеш очищають ся, і глухі чують, мертві встають, і вбогі проповідують благовістє.
6 and blessed is every one who does not stumble and fall because of my claims."
І щасливий, хто не поблазнить ся мною.
7 When the messengers had taken their leave, Jesus proceeded to say to the multitude concerning John, "What did you go out into the Desert to gaze at? A reed waving in the wind?
Як же вони відходили, почав Ісус говорити людям про Йоана: Чого виходили ви в пустиню дивитись? На тростину, що вітер колише?
8 But what did you go out to see? A man luxuriously dressed? Those who wear luxurious clothes are to be found in kings' palaces.
Або чого виходили ви дивитись? На чоловіка одягненого в мяку одежу? ось ті, що носять мяку одежу, вони в царських будинках.
9 But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.
Або чого виходили ви дивитись? На пророка? Так, глаголю вам: І більше пророка.
10 This is he of whom it is written, "'See I am sending My messenger before Thy face, and he will make Thy road ready before Thee.'
Се ж бо той, про кого писано: Ось посилаю ангела мого перед лицем твоїм, що приготовить дорогу твою перед тобою.
11 "I solemnly tell you that among all of woman born no greater has ever been raised up than John the Baptist; yet one who is of lower rank in the Kingdom of the Heavens is greater than he.
Істино глаголю вам: Не явив ся між нарожденими від жінок більший од Йоана Хрестителя; найменший же у царстві небесному більший од него.
12 But from the time of John the Baptist till now, the Kingdom of the Heavens has been suffering violent assault, and the violent have been seizing it by force.
І від часів Йоана Хрестителя та й до сього дня царство небесне здобуваєть ся силою, і хто здобуває, той силоміць бере його.
13 For all the Prophets and the Law taught until John.
Бо всї пророки й закон пророкували до Йоана
14 And (if you are willing to receive it) he is the Elijah who was to come.
І коли хочете прийняти, він єсть Ілия, що має прийти.
15 Listen, every one who has ears!
Хто має уші слухати, нехай слухає.
16 "But to what shall I compare the present generation? It is like children sitting in the open places, who call to their playmates.
Кому ж я уподоблю рід сей? Подібен він тим дітям, що сидять на торгу, та гукають до своїх товаришів,
17 "'We have played the flute to you,' they say, 'and you have not danced: we have sung dirges, and you have not beaten your breasts.'
та кажуть: Ми вам сурмили, а ви не скакали; ми вам жалібно приговорювали, а ви не плакали.
18 "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'
Бо прийшов Йоан, не їсть і не пє, а вони кажуть: Диявола має.
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they exclaim, 'See this man! --given to gluttony and tippling, and a friend of tax-gatherers and notorious sinners!' And yet Wisdom is vindicated by her actions."
Прийшов Син чоловічий, їсть і пє, а вони кажуть: Ось чоловік прожора та пяниця, друг митникам та грішникам. І оправдилась премудрість од дїтей своїх.
20 Then began He to upbraid the towns where most of His mighty works had been done--because they had not repented.
Тоді почав докоряти городам, де стало ся найбільше чудес Його, що не покаялись:
21 "Alas for thee, Chorazin!" He cried. "Alas for thee, Bethsaida! For had the mighty works been done in Tyre and Sidon which have been done in both of you, they would long ere now have repented, covered with sackcloth and ashes.
Горе тобі, Хоразине! горе тобі, Витсаїдо! бо коди б чудеса, що стали ся в вас, стались у Тирі та Сидонї, давно були б вони покаялись у веретищі та попелї.
22 Only I tell you that it will be more endurable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of Judgement than for you.
Тільки ж глаголю вам: Одраднїще буде Тирові та Силонові суднього дня, ніж вам.
23 And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted even to Heaven? Even to Hades shalt thou descend. For had the mighty works been done in Sodom which have been done in thee, it would have remained until now. (Hadēs g86)
І ти, Капернауме, що піднявсь аж під небо, провадиш ся в саме пекло; бо коли б чудеса, що стали ся в тобі, стали ся в Содомі, зостав ся б він аж і досі. (Hadēs g86)
24 Only I tell you all, that it will be more endurable for the land of Sodom on the day of Judgement than for thee."
Тим то глаголю вам: Що одраднїще буде землї Содомській суднього дня, нїж тобі.
25 About that time Jesus exclaimed, "I heartily praise Thee, Father, Lord of Heaven and of earth, that Thou hast hidden these things from sages and men of discernment, and hast unveiled them to babes.
І озвав ся Ісус того часу знов і рече: Хвалю Тебе, Отче, Господи неба й землї, що Ти втаїв се від премудрих і розумних, а відкрив сеє те недоліткам.
26 Yes, Father, for such has been Thy gracious will.
Так, Отче: бо так воно вподобалось тобі.
27 "All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father, nor does any one fully know the Father except the Son and all to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.
Все передане менї від Отця мого, й нїхто не знає Сина, тільки Oтець; анї Отця нїхто не знає, тільки Син, та кому хоче Син одкрити.
28 "Come to me, all you toiling and burdened ones, and I will give you rest.
Прийдіть до мене, всї знеможені та отягчені, я впокою вас.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Візьміть ярмо мов на себе, й навчіть ся від мене: бо я тихий і смирний серцем; то й знайдете відпочинок душам вашим.
30 For it is good to bear my yoke, and my burden is light."
Бо ярмо моє любе, й тягар мій легкий.
