< Mark 3 >
1 At another time, when He went to the synagogue, there was a man there with one arm shrivelled up.
And he entered again into a synagogue, and there-was there, a man having, his hand, withered;
2 They closely watched Him to see whether He would cure him on the Sabbath--so as to have a charge to bring against Him.
and they were narrowly watching him, whether, on the Sabbath, he would cure him, that they might accuse him.
3 "Come forward," said He to the man with the shrivelled arm.
And he saith unto the man who hath his hand withered, Arise into the midst!
4 Then He asked them, "Are we allowed to do good on the Sabbath, or to do evil? to save a life, or to destroy one?" They remained silent.
and saith unto them—Is it allowed, on the Sabbath, to do good, or to do evil? To, save, life, or, to slay? but they remained silent.
5 Grieved and indignant at the hardening of their hearts, He looked round on them with anger, and said to the man, "Stretch out your arm." He stretched it out, and the arm was completely restored.
And, looking round upon them with anger, being at the same time grieved on account of the hardening of their heart, he saith unto the man—Stretch forth thy hand! and he stretched it forth, and his hand, was restored.
6 But no sooner had the Pharisees left the synagogue than they held a consultation with the Herodians against Jesus, to devise some means of destroying Him.
And, the Pharisees, going out straightway with the Herodians, were giving counsel against him, that they should, destroy, him.
7 Accordingly Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the Lake, and a vast crowd of people from Galilee followed Him;
And, Jesus, with his disciples, retired unto the sea; and, a great throng from Galilee, followed, also from Judaea,
8 and from Judaea and Jerusalem and Idumaea and from beyond the Jordan and from the district of Tyre and Sidon there came to Him a vast crowd, hearing of all that He was doing.
and from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and beyond the Jordan, and around Tyre and Zidon, a great throng, hearing whatsoever things he was doing, came unto him.
9 So He gave directions to His disciples to keep a small boat in constant attendance on Him because of the throng--to prevent their crushing Him.
And he spake unto his disciples that a little boat might attend him, because of the multitude, —that they might not be pressing upon him.
10 For He had cured many of the people, so that all who had any ailments pressed upon Him, to touch Him.
For he cured many, so that they were besieging him, that they might touch him—as many as had plagues;
11 And the foul spirits, whenever they saw Him, threw themselves down at His feet, screaming out: "You are the Son of God."
and the impure spirits, as soon as they beheld him, were falling down to him, and crying aloud, while he was speaking, Thou, art the Son of God!
12 But He many a time checked them, forbidding them to say who He was.
and sternly was he rebuking them, lest they should make him manifest.
13 Then He went up the hill; and those whom He Himself chose He called, and they came to Him.
And he goeth up into the mountain and calleth near whom, he, pleased, —and they went away unto him;
14 He appointed twelve of them, that they might be with Him, and that He might also send them to proclaim His Message,
and he appointed a twelve, whom also he named, Apostles, —that they might be with him, and that he might be sending them forth to make proclamation,
15 with authority to expel the demons.
and to have authority to cast out the demons;
16 These twelve were Simon (to whom He gave the surname of Peter),
and he appointed the twelve (and imposed a name on Simon—) Peter,
17 James the son of Zabdi and John the brother of James (these two He surnamed Boanerges, that is 'Sons of Thunder'),
and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James (and imposed on them a name—Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder);
18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananaean,
and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the zealot;
19 and Judas Iscariot, the man who also betrayed Him.
and Judas Iscariot, who also delivered him up. And he cometh into a house;
20 And He went into a house. But again the crowd assembled, so that there was no opportunity for them even to snatch a meal.
and the multitude come together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
21 Hearing of this, His relatives came to seize Him by force, for they said, "He is out of his mind."
And they who were near to him, hearing of it, went out to secure him, —for they were saying—He is beside himself!
22 The Scribes, too, who had come down from Jerusalem said, "He has Baal-zebul in him; and it is by the power of the Prince of the demons that he expels the demons."
And, the Scribes who from Jerusalem had come down, were saying—He hath, Beelzebul; and—In the ruler of the demons, casteth he out the demons.
23 So He called them to Him, and using figurative language He appealed to them, saying, "How is it possible for Satan to expel Satan?
And, calling them near, in parables, began he to say unto them—How can, Satan, cast, Satan out?
24 For if civil war breaks out in a kingdom, nothing can make that kingdom last;
And, if a kingdom against itself be divided, that kingdom cannot be made to stand;
25 and if a family splits into parties, that family cannot continue.
And, if a house against itself be divided, the house shall be unable to stand;
26 So if Satan has risen in arms and has made war upon himself, stand he cannot, but meets his end.
And, if, Satan, hath risen up against himself, and become divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
27 Nay, no one can go into a strong man's house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.
But, no one is able into the house of the mighty one to enter, and, his spoils, to carry off, unless, first the mighty one, he bind, and, then his house, will he plunder!
28 In solemn truth I tell you that all their sins may be pardoned to the sons of men, and all their blasphemies, however they may have blasphemed;
Verily, I say unto you—All things shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, —the sins and the profanities wherewithal they shall profane;
29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, he remains for ever unabsolved: he is guilty of a sin of the Ages." (aiōn , aiōnios )
But, whosoever shall revile against the Holy Spirit, hath no forgiveness, unto times age-abiding, —but is guilty of an age-abiding sin: (aiōn , aiōnios )
30 This was because they said, "He is possessed by a foul spirit."
because they were saying—An impure spirit, he hath!
31 By this time His mother and His brothers arrive, and standing outside they send a message to Him to call Him.
And there come his mother and his brethren, and, standing, outside, they sent unto him, calling him.
32 Now a crowd was sitting round Him; so they tell Him, "Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, inquiring for you."
And there was sitting around him a multitude, and they say unto him—Lo! thy mother and thy brethren, outside, are seeking thee!
33 "Who are my mother and my brothers?" He replied.
And, answering them, he saith—Who are my mother and my brethren?
34 And, fixing His eyes on the people who were sitting round Him in a circle, He said,
And, looking around on them who, about him, in a circle, were sitting, he saith, See! my mother and my brethren!
35 "Here are my mother and my brothers. For wherever there is one who has been obedient to God, there is my brother--my sister--and my mother."
Whosoever shall do the will of God, the same, is my brother and sister and mother.
