< Mark 10 >

1 Soon on His feet once more, He enters the district of Judaea and crosses the Jordan: again the people flock to Him, and ere long, as was usual with Him, He was teaching them once more.
And, from thence, arising, he cometh into the bounds of Judaea and beyond the Jordan, —and there come together again, multitudes unto him, and, as he had been wont, again, was he teaching them.
2 Presently a party of Pharisees come to Him with the question--seeking to entrap Him, "May a man divorce his wife?"
And Pharisees coming near were questioning him—whether it is allowed a husband to divorce a wife, testing him.
3 "What rule did Moses lay down for you?" He answered.
But, he, answering, said unto them—What unto you did, Moses, command?
4 "Moses," they said, "permitted a man to draw up a written notice of divorce, and to send his wife away."
And, they, said—Moses permitted, to write, a roll of dismissal, and to divorce.
5 "It was in consideration of your stubborn hearts," said Jesus, "that Moses enacted this law for you;
But, Jesus, said unto them—In view of your hardness of heart, wrote he for you this commandment;
6 but from the beginning of the creation the rule was, 'Male and female did God make them.
But, from the beginning of creation, male and female, made he [them];
7 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cling to his wife,
For this cause, shall a man leave behind his father and mother,
8 and the two shall be one'; so that they are two no longer, but 'one.'
and, the two, shall become, one flesh; so that, no longer, are they two, but, one flesh.
9 What, therefore, God has joined together let not man separate."
What then, God, hath yoked together, let, a man, not put asunder.
10 Indoors the disciples began questioning Jesus again on the same subject.
And, [coming] into the house again, the disciples, concerning this, were questioning him;
11 He replied, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman, commits adultery against the first wife;
and he saith unto them—Whosoever shall divorce his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her;
12 and if a woman puts away her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."
And, if, she, divorcing her husband, marry another, she committeth adultery.
13 One day people were bringing young children to Jesus for Him to touch them, but the disciples interfered.
And they were bringing unto him children, that he might, touch, them, —the disciples, however, were rebuking them.
14 Jesus, however, on seeing this, was moved to indignation, and said to them, "Let the little children come to me: do not hinder them; for to those who are childlike the Kingdom of God belongs.
But Jesus, seeing it, was greatly displeased, and said unto them—Suffer the children to come unto me, —do not hinder them; for, of such, is the kingdom of God.
15 In solemn truth I tell you that no one who does not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will by any possibility enter it."
Verily, I say unto you—Whosoever shall not welcome the kingdom of God, as a child, in nowise shall enter thereinto.
16 Then He took them in His arms and blessed them lovingly, one by one, laying His hands upon them.
And, folding them in his arms, he was blessing them, having laid his hands upon them.
17 As He went out to resume His journey, there came a man running up to Him, who knelt at His feet and asked, "Good Rabbi, what am I to do in order to inherit the Life of the Ages?" (aiōnios g166)
And, as he was going forth into a road, one, running, and kneeling before him, was questioning him—Good Teacher! what shall I do that, life age—abiding, I may inherit? (aiōnios g166)
18 "Why do you call me good?" asked Jesus in reply; "there is no one truly good except One--that is, God.
And, Jesus, said unto him—Why callest thou me, good? None, is good, save one—God.
19 You know the Commandments--'Do not murder;' 'Do not commit adultery;' 'Do not steal;' 'Do not lie in giving evidence;' 'Do not defraud;' 'Honour thy father and thy mother.'"
The commandments, thou knowest, —Do not commit murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal; Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honour thy father and mother.
20 "Rabbi," he replied, "all these Commandments I have carefully obeyed from my youth."
And, he, said unto him—Teacher! all these things, have I kept, from my youth.
21 Then Jesus looked at him and loved him, and said, "One thing is lacking in you: go, sell all you possess and give the proceeds to the poor, and you shall have riches in Heaven; and come and be a follower of mine."
And, Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said unto him—One thing, unto thee, is wanting; —Withdraw! whatsoever thou hast, sell, and give unto [the] destitute, —and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come! be following me.
22 At these words his brow darkened, and he went away sad; for he was possessed of great wealth.
And, he, becoming gloomy because of the word, departed sorrowing, for he was holding, many possessions.
23 Then looking round on His disciples Jesus said, "With how hard a struggle will the possessors of riches enter the Kingdom of God!"
And, looking around, Jesus saith unto his disciples—With what difficulty, shall, they who have money, enter, into the kingdom of God!
24 The disciples were amazed at His words. Jesus, however, said again, "Children, how hard a struggle is it for those who trust in riches to enter the Kingdom of God!
And, the disciples, were in amazement, because of the words. But, Jesus, again answering, saith unto them—Children! how difficult, it is, to enter, into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."
It is, easier, for a camel, through the eye of a needle, to pass, than for, a rich man, into the kingdom of God, to enter.
26 They were astonished beyond measure, and said to one another, "Who then can be saved?"
And, they, were being exceedingly struck with astonishment, saying unto him—Who, then, can, be saved?
27 Jesus looking on them said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for everything is possible with God."
Looking at them, Jesus saith—With men, impossible, but not, with God; for, all things, are possible, with God
28 "Remember," said Peter to Him, "that we forsook everything and have become your followers."
Peter began to be saying unto him—Lo! we, have left all, and followed thee!
29 "In solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that there is no one who has forsaken house or brothers or sisters, or mother or father, or children or lands, for my sake and for the sake of the Good News,
Jesus said—Verily, I say unto you—There is, no one, who hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands, for the sake of me, and [for the sake of] the glad-message,
30 but will receive a hundred times as much now in this present life--houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, lands--and persecution with them--and in the coming age the Life of the Ages. (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
who shall not receive a hundredfold, now, in this season, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, —with persecutions, and, in the age that is coming, life age-abiding. (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
31 But many who are now first will be last, and the last, first."
But, many, shall be—first-last, and [the] Last-first.
32 They were still on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; they were full of wonder, and some, though they followed, did so with fear. Then, once more calling to Him the Twelve, He began to tell them what was about to happen to Him.
Now they were in the way, going up unto Jerusalem, and Jesus was going on before them, —and they were in amazement; and, they who followed, were in fear. And, taking unto himself, again, the twelve, he began to be saying unto them, as to the things about to befall him—
33 "See," He said, "we are going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the High Priests and the Scribes. They will condemn Him to death, and will hand Him over to the Gentiles;
Lo! we are going up unto Jerusalem; and, the Son of Man, will be delivered up, unto the Chief-priests and the Scribes, —and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him up unto the nations;
34 they will insult Him in cruel sport, spit on Him, scourge Him, and put Him to death; but on the third day He will rise to life again."
And they will mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and, slay; —and, after three days, will he, arise.
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zabdi, came up to Him and said, "Rabbi, we wish you would grant us whatever request we make of you."
And there come near unto him, James and John, the [two] sons of Zebedee, —saying unto him—Teacher! we desire, that, whatsoever we shall ask thee, thou wilt do for us.
36 "What would you have me do for you?" He asked.
But, he, said unto them—What desire ye, I should do for you?
37 "Allow us," they replied, "to sit one at your right hand and the other at your left hand, in your glory."
And, they, said unto him—Grant us, that, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left, we may sit, in thy glory.
38 "You know not," said He, "what you are asking. Are you able to drink out of the cup from which I am to drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am to be baptized?"
But, Jesus, said unto them—Ye know not what ye are asking: Are ye able to drink the cup that, I, am to drink? or to be immersed, with the immersion wherewith, I, am to be immersed?
39 "We are able," they replied. "Out of the cup," said Jesus, "from which I am to drink you shall drink, and with the baptism with which I am to be baptized you shall be baptized;
And, they, said unto him—We are able. And, Jesus, said unto them—The cup which, I, am to drink, ye shall drink, and, with the immersion wherewith, I, am to be immersed, shall ye be immersed;
40 but as to sitting at my right hand or at my left, that is not mine to give: it will be for those for whom it is reserved."
But, to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, except unto them for whom it hath been prepared.
41 The other ten, hearing of it, were at first highly indignant with James and John.
And the ten, hearing, began to be sorely displeased, concerning James and John.
42 Jesus, however, called them to Him and said to them, "You are aware how those who are deemed rulers among the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men make them feel their authority;
And Jesus, calling them near, saith unto them—Ye know that, they who think to rule the nations, lord it over them, and, their great ones, wield authority over them;
43 but it is not to be so among you. No, whoever desires to be great among you must be your servant;
But, not so, it is, among you. But, whosoever desireth to become, great, among you, shall be, your minister,
44 and whoever desires to be first among you must be the bondservant of all.
And, whosoever desireth, among you, to be, first, shall be, servant of all;
45 For the Son of Man also did not come to be waited upon, but to wait on others, and to give His life as the redemption-price for a multitude of people."
For, even the Son of Man, came not to be ministered unto, but minister, —and to give his life, a ransom instead of many.
46 They came to Jericho; and as He was leaving that town--Himself and His disciples and a great crowd--Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the way-side.
And they come into Jericho. And, as he was journeying forth from Jericho, and his disciples, and a considerable multitude, the son of Timaeus, blind Bar-Timaeus, a beggar, was sitting beside the road.
47 Hearing that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, "Son of David, Jesus, have pity on me."
And, hearing that it was, Jesus the Nazarene, he began to be crying aloud, and saying—O Son of David! Jesus! have mercy on me.
48 Many angrily told him to leave off shouting; but he only cried out all the louder, "Son of David, have pity on me."
And many were rebuking him, that he might hold his peace; but, he, so much the more, was crying aloud, O Son of David, have mercy on me.
49 Then Jesus stood still. "Call him," He said. So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said; "rise, he is calling you."
And, coming to a stand, Jesus said—Call him! And they call the blind man, saying unto him—Take courage! rise! he calleth thee!
50 The man flung away his outer garment, sprang to his feet, and came to Jesus.
And, he, throwing off his mantle—springing to his feet, came unto Jesus.
51 "What shall I do for you?" said Jesus. "Rabboni," replied the blind man, "let me recover my sight."
And, answering him, Jesus said—What desirest thou, I should do for thee? And, the blind man, said unto him—Rabboni! that may recover sight.
52 "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has cured you." Instantly he regained his sight, and followed Him along the road.
And, Jesus, said unto him—Go thy way! thy faith, hath saved thee. And, straightway, he recovered sight, and was following him in the road.
