John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Au commencement était le Verbe, et le Verbe était en Dieu, et le Verbe était Dieu.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
C’est lui qui au commencement était en Dieu.
3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing that exists came into being.
Toutes choses ont été faites par lui; et sans lui rien n’a été fait de ce qui a été fait.
4 In Him was Life, and that Life was the Light of men.
En lui était la vie, et la vie était la lumière des hommes;
5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it.
Et la lumière luit dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres ne l’ont pas comprise.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
Il y eut un homme envoyé de Dieu dont le nom était Jean.
7 He came as a witness, in order that he might give testimony concerning the Light--so that all might believe through him.
Celui-ci vint comme témoin pour rendre témoignage à la lumière, afin que tous crussent par lui;
8 He was not the Light, but he existed that he might give testimony concerning the Light.
Il n’était pas la lumière, mais il devait rendre témoignage à la lumière.
9 The true Light was that which illumines every man by its coming into the world.
Celui-là était la vraie lumière, qui illumine tout homme venant en ce monde.
10 He was in the world, and the world came into existence through Him, and the world did not recognize Him.
Il était dans le monde, et le monde a été fait par lui, et le monde ne l’a pas connu.
11 He came to the things that were His own, and His own people gave Him no welcome.
Il est venu chez lui, et les siens ne l’ont pas reçu.
12 But all who have received Him, to them--that is, to those who trust in His name--He has given the privilege of becoming children of God;
Mais à tous ceux qui l’ont reçu, il a donné le pouvoir d’être faits enfants de Dieu; à ceux qui croient en son nom;
13 who were begotten as such not by human descent, nor through an impulse of their own nature, nor through the will of a human father, but from God.
Qui ne sont point nés du sang, ni de la volonté de la chair, ni de la volonté de l’homme, mais de Dieu.
14 And the Word came in the flesh, and lived for a time in our midst, so that we saw His glory--the glory as of the Father's only Son, sent from His presence. He was full of grace and truth.
Et le Verbe a été fait chair, et il a habité parmi nous et nous avons vu sa gloire comme la gloire qu’un fils unique reçoit de son père, plein de grâce et de vérité.
15 John gave testimony concerning Him and cried aloud, saying, "This is He of whom I said, 'He who is coming after me has been put before me,' for He was before me."
Jean rend témoignage de lui, et il crie, disant: Voici celui-ci dont j’ai dit: Celui qui doit venir après moi a été fait avant moi, parce qu’il était avant moi.
16 For He it is from whose fulness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
Et nous avons tous reçu de sa plénitude, et grâce pour grâce;
17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Car la loi a été donnée par Moïse, la grâce et la vérité sont venues par Jésus-Christ.
18 No human eye has ever seen God: the only Son, who is in the Father's bosom--He has made Him known.
Personne n’a jamais vu Dieu: le Fils unique qui est dans le sein du Père est celui qui l’a fait connaître.
19 This also is John's testimony, when the Jews sent to him a deputation of Priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him who he was.
Or voici le témoignage de Jean, lorsque les Juifs lui envoyèrent de Jérusalem des prêtres et des lévites pour lui demander: Qui es-tu?
20 He avowed--he did not conceal the truth, but avowed, "I am not the Christ."
Car il confessa, et il ne le nia point; il confessa: Ce n’est pas moi qui suis le Christ.
21 "What then?" they inquired; "are you Elijah?" "I am not," he said. "Are you the Prophet?" "No," he answered.
Et ils lui demandèrent: Quoi donc? Es-tu Elie? Et il dit: Non. Es-tu le prophète? Et il répondit: Non.
22 So they pressed the question. "Who are you?" they said--"that we may take an answer to those who sent us. What account do you give of yourself?"
Ils lui dirent donc: Qui es-tu, afin que nous donnions une réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés? Que dis-tu de toi-même?
23 "I am the voice," he replied, "of one crying aloud, 'Make straight the Lord's way in the Desert,' fulfilling the words of the Prophet Isaiah."
Je suis, répondit-il, la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Redressez la voie du Seigneur, comme l’a dit le prophète Isaïe.
24 They were Pharisees who had been sent.
Or ceux qui avaient été envoyés étaient du nombre des pharisiens.
25 Again they questioned him. "Why then do you baptize," they said, "if you are neither the Christ nor Elijah nor the Prophet?"
Ils l’interrogèrent encore et lui dirent: Pourquoi donc baptises-tu, si tu n’es ni le Christ, ni Élie, ni le prophète?
26 "I baptize in water only," John answered, "but in your midst stands One whom you do not know--
Jean leur répondit, disant: Moi je baptise dans l’eau, mais il y a au milieu de vous quelqu’un que vous ne connaissez point.
27 He who is to come after me, and whose sandal-strap I am not worthy to unfasten."
C’est lui qui doit venir après moi, qui a été fait avant moi; je ne suis même pas digne de délier la courroie de sa chaussure.
28 This conversation took place at Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Ceci se passa en Béthanie, au-delà du Jourdain où Jean baptisait.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and exclaimed, "Look, that is the Lamb of God who is to take away the sin of the world!
Le jour suivant Jean vit Jésus venant à lui, et il dit: Voici l’agneau de Dieu, voici celui qui ôte le péché du monde.
30 This is He about whom I said, 'After me is to come One who has been put before me, because He was before me.'
C’est celui de qui j’ai dit: Après moi vient un homme qui a été fait avant moi, parce qu’il était avant moi;
31 I did not yet know Him; but that He may be openly shown to Israel is the reason why I have come baptizing in water."
Et moi je ne le connaissais pas; mais c’est pour qu’il fût manifesté en Israël, que je suis venu baptisant dans l’eau.
32 John also gave testimony by stating: "I have seen the Spirit coming down like a dove out of Heaven; and it remained upon Him.
Jean rendit encore témoignage, disant: J’ai vu l’Esprit descendant sur lui en forme de colombe, et il s’est reposé sur lui.
33 I did not yet know Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, "'The One on whom you see the Spirit coming down, and remaining, He it is who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.'
Et moi je ne le connaissais pas; mais celui qui m’a envoyé baptiser dans l’eau m’a dit: Celui sur qui tu verras l’Esprit descendre et se reposer, c’est celui-là qui baptisera dans l’Esprit-Saint.
34 "This I have seen, and I have become a witness that He is the Son of God."
Et je l’ai vu, et j’ai rendu témoignage que c’est lui qui est le Fils de Dieu.
35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,
Le jour suivant, Jean se trouvait de nouveau avec deux de ses disciples.
36 when he saw Jesus passing by, and said, "Look! that is the Lamb of God!"
Et regardant Jésus qui se promenait, il dit: Voilà l’agneau de Dieu.
37 The two disciples heard his exclamation, and they followed Jesus.
Les deux disciples l’entendirent parler ainsi, et ils suivirent Jésus.
38 Then Jesus turned round, and seeing them following He asked them, "What is your wish?" "Rabbi," they replied--'Rabbi' means 'Teacher' --"where are you staying?"
Or Jésus s’étant retourné et les voyant qui le suivaient, leur dit: Que cherchez-vous? Ils lui répondirent; Rabbi (ce qui veut dire, par interprétation, Maître), où demeurez-vous?
39 "Come and you shall see," He said. So they went and saw where He was staying, and they remained and spent that day with Him. It was then about ten o'clock in the morning.
Il leur dit: Venez et voyez. Ils vinrent, et virent où il demeurait, et ils restèrent avec lui ce jour-là: or, il était environ la dixième heure,
40 Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard John's exclamation and followed Jesus.
Or André, frère de Simon-Pierre, était un des deux qui avaient entendu de Jean ce témoignage, et qui avaient suivi Jésus.
41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah!" --that is to say, the Anointed One.
Or il rencontra d’abord son frère Simon, et lui dit: Nous avons trouvé le Messie (ce qu’on interprète par le Christ).
42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon, son of John: you shall be called Cephas" --that is to say, Peter (or 'Rock').
Et il l’amena à Jésus. Et Jésus l’ayant regardé, dit: Tu es Simon, fils de Jona; tu seras appelé Céphas, ce qu’on interprète par Pierre.
43 The next day, having decided to leave Bethany and go into Galilee, Jesus found Philip, and invited him to follow Him.
Le lendemain, Jésus voulut aller en Galilée; il trouva Philippe et lui dit: Suis-moi.
44 (Now Philip came from Bethsaida, the same town as Andrew and Peter.)
Or Philippe était de Bethsaïde, de la même ville qu’André et Pierre.
45 Then Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found him about whom Moses in the Law wrote, as well as the Prophets--Jesus, the son of Joseph, a man of Nazareth."
Philippe trouva Nathanaël, et lui dit: Nous avons trouvé celui de qui Moïse a écrit dans la loi et ensuite les prophètes, Jésus, fils de Joseph de Nazareth.
46 "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" replied Nathanael. "Come and see," said Philip.
Et Nathanaël lui demanda: Peut-il venir de Nazareth quelque chose de bon? Philippe lui répondit: Viens et vois.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, and said of him, "Look! here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceitfulness!"
Jésus vit venir à lui Nathanaël, et il dit de lui: Voici vraiment un Israélite en qui il n’y a point d’artifice.
48 "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. "Before Philip called you," said Jesus, "when you were under the fig-tree I saw you."
Nathanaël lui demanda: D’où me connaissez-vous? Jésus répondit et lui dit: Avant que Philippe t’appelât, lorsque tu étais sous le figuier, je t’ai vu.
49 "Rabbi," cried Nathanael, "you are the Son of God, you are Israel's King!"
Nathanaël lui répondit et dit: Rabbi, vous êtes le Fils de Dieu, vous êtes le roi d’Israël.
50 "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig-tree,'" replied Jesus, "do you believe? You shall see greater things than that."
Jésus répliqua et lui dit: Parce que je t’ai dit: Je t’ai vu sous le figuier, tu crois; tu verras de plus grandes choses.
51 "I tell you all in most solemn truth," He added, "that you shall see Heaven opened wide, and God's angels going up, and coming down to the Son of Man."
Et il ajouta: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous verrez le ciel ouvert et les anges de Dieu montant et descendant sur le Fils de l’homme.
