John 7
1 After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him.
૧અને પછી ઈસુ ગાલીલમાં ફર્યા, કેમ કે યહૂદીઓ તેમને મારી નાખવા શોધતાં હતા, માટે યહૂદિયામાં ફરવાને તે ચાહતા નહોતા.
2 But the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching.
૨હવે યહૂદીઓનું માંડવાપર્વ પાસે આવ્યું હતું.
3 So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform.
૩માટે તેમના ભાઈઓએ તેને કહ્યું કે, ‘અહીંથી યહૂદિયામાં જાઓ કે, તમે જે કામો કરો છો તે તમારા શિષ્યો પણ જુએ.
4 For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world."
૪કેમ કે કોઈ પોતે પ્રસિદ્ધ થવાને ચાહતો હોવાથી ગુપ્ત રીતે કંઈ કરતો નથી; જો તમે એ કામો કરો છો, તો દુનિયાની આગળ પોતાને જાહેર કરો.’”
5 For even His brothers were not believers in Him.
૫કેમ કે તેમના ભાઈઓએ પણ તેમના પર વિશ્વાસ કર્યો ન હતો.
6 "My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable.
૬ત્યારે ઈસુ તેઓને કહે છે કે, ‘મારો સમય હજી આવ્યો નથી; પણ તમારા માટે સર્વ સમય એક સમાન છે.
7 It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil.
૭જગત તમારો દ્વેષ કરી નથી શકતું, પણ મારો તો તે દ્વેષ કરે છે; કેમ કે તે વિષે હું એવી સાક્ષી આપું છું કે, તેનાં કામ દુષ્ટ છે.
8 As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come."
૮તમે આ પર્વમાં જાઓ; મારો સમય હજી પરિપૂર્ણ થયો નથી, માટે હું આ પર્વમાં જતો નથી.’”
9 Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee.
૯ઈસુ તેઓને એ વાત કહીને ગાલીલમાં જ રહ્યા.
10 When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately.
૧૦પરંતુ ઈસુના ભાઈઓ પર્વમાં ગયા, તે પણ જાહેરમાં નહિ, પણ ખાનગી રીતે ગયા.
11 Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?"
૧૧ત્યારે યહૂદીઓએ પર્વમાં તેમની શોધ કરતાં કહ્યું કે, ‘તે ક્યાં છે?’”
12 Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people."
૧૨તેમને વિષે લોકોમાં ઘણી ચર્ચા ચાલી; કેમ કે કેટલાકે કહ્યું કે, ‘તે સારો માણસ છે;’ બીજાઓએ કહ્યું કે, ‘એમ નથી, પણ લોકોને તે ગેરમાર્ગે દોરે છે.’”
13 Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him.
૧૩તોપણ યહૂદીઓના ડરને લીધે તેમને વિષે કોઈ ખુલ્લી રીતે કંઈ બોલ્યું નહિ.
14 But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching.
૧૪પણ પર્વ અર્ધું થવા આવ્યું ત્યારે ઈસુએ ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં જઈને ઉપદેશ કર્યો.
15 The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?"
૧૫ત્યારે યહૂદીઓએ આશ્ચર્ય પામીને કહ્યું કે, ‘એ માણસ કદી પણ શીખ્યો નથી, તેમ છતાં તે વિદ્યા ક્યાંથી જાણે છે?’”
16 Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me.
૧૬માટે ઈસુએ તેઓને જવાબ આપ્યો કે, ‘મારો ઉપદેશ મારો પોતાનો નથી, પણ જેમણે મને મોકલ્યો તેમનો છે.
17 If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me.
૧૭જો કોઈ તેમની ઇચ્છા પૂરી કરવા ચાહે, તો આ બોધ વિષે તે સમજશે કે, તે ઈશ્વરથી છે કે હું પોતાથી બોલું છું.
18 The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him.
૧૮જે પોતાથી બોલે છે તે પોતાનો મહિમા શોધે છે; પણ જે પોતાના મોકલનારનો મહિમા શોધે છે, તે જ સત્ય છે અને તેનામાં કંઈ અન્યાય નથી.
19 Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?"
૧૯શું મૂસાએ તમને નિયમશાસ્ત્ર આપ્યું નથી? પણ તમારામાંનો કોઈ તે નિયમશાસ્ત્ર પાળતો નથી. તમે મને મારી નાખવાની કેમ કોશિશ કરો છો?’”
20 "You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you."
૨૦લોકોએ જવાબ આપ્યો કે, ‘તારામાં દુષ્ટાત્મા છે; કોણ તને મારી નાખવાની કોશિશ કરે છે?’”
21 "One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder.
૨૧ઈસુએ તેઓને જવાબ આપ્યો કે, ‘મેં એક કાર્ય કર્યું અને તમે સર્વ આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યા છો.
22 Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child.
૨૨આ કારણથી મૂસાએ તમને સુન્નતનો નિયમ આપ્યો છે તે મૂસાથી છે એમ તો નહિ, પણ પૂર્વજોથી છે; અને તમે વિશ્રામવારે માણસની સુન્નત કરો છો.
23 If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day?
૨૩મૂસાના નિયમશાસ્ત્રનું ઉલ્લંઘન ન થાય, માટે જો કોઈ માણસની સુન્નત વિશ્રામવારે કરવામાં આવે છે; તો મેં વિશ્રામવારે એક માણસને પૂરો સાજો કર્યો, તે માટે શું તમે મારા પર ગુસ્સે થયા છો?
24 Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just."
૨૪દેખાવ પ્રમાણે ન્યાય ન કરો, પણ સચ્ચાઈપૂર્વક ન્યાય કરો.’”
25 Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill?
૨૫ત્યારે યરુશાલેમમાંના કેટલાકે કહ્યું કે, ‘જેમને તેઓ મારી નાખવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરે છે, તે શું એ જ નથી?
26 But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ?
૨૬પણ જુઓ, તે તો જાહેર રીતે બોલે છે અને તેઓ તેમને કંઈ કહેતાં નથી! અધિકારીઓ શું ખરેખર જાણતા હશે કે એ ખ્રિસ્ત જ છે?
27 And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from."
૨૭તોપણ અમે તે માણસને જાણીએ છીએ કે તે ક્યાંથી આવેલો છે; પણ જયારે ખ્રિસ્ત આવશે ત્યારે કોઈ જાણશે નહિ કે તે ક્યાંથી આવ્યો છે.’”
28 Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge.
૨૮એ માટે ઈસુએ ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં બોધ કરતાં બૂમ પાડીને કહ્યું કે, ‘તમે મને જાણો છો અને હું ક્યાંથી આવ્યો છું તે પણ તમે જાણો છો; અને હું તો મારી પોતાની રીતે નથી આવ્યો, પણ જેમણે મને મોકલ્યો છે તે સત્ય છે, તેમને તમે જાણતા નથી.
29 I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me."
૨૯હું તેમને જાણું છું; કેમ કે હું તેમની પાસેથી આવ્યો છું અને તેમણે મને મોકલ્યો છે.’”
30 On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come.
૩૦માટે તેઓએ ઈસુને પકડવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો, પણ તેમનો સમય હજી સુધી આવ્યો ન હતો, માટે કોઈએ તેમના પર હાથ નાખ્યો નહિ.
31 But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?"
૩૧પણ લોકોમાંથી ઘણાંએ તેમના પર વિશ્વાસ કર્યો અને તેઓએ કહ્યું કે, ‘ખ્રિસ્ત આવશે, ત્યારે આ માણસે જે ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્નો કર્યા છે તે કરતાં શું તેઓ વધારે કરશે?’”
32 The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him.
૩૨તેમને વિષે લોકો એવી ગણગણાટ કરતા હતા, તે ફરોશીઓએ સાંભળ્યું, ત્યારે મુખ્ય યાજકોએ તથા ફરોશીઓએ તેમને પકડવાને અધિકારીઓ મોકલ્યા.
33 So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me.
૩૩ત્યારે ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, ‘હજી થોડો સમય હું તમારી સાથે છું, પછી જેમણે મને મોકલ્યો છે તેમની પાસે હું જાઉં છું.
34 You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come."
૩૪તમે મને શોધશો, પણ હું તમને મળીશ નહિ; અને જ્યાં હું જાઉં છું ત્યાં તમે આવી શકતા નથી.’”
35 The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
૩૫ત્યારે યહૂદીઓએ અંદરોઅંદર કહ્યું કે, ‘આ માણસ ક્યાં જશે કે આપણને જડશે જ નહિ? શું ગ્રીકોમાં વેરાઈ ગયેલાઓની પાસે જઈને તે ગ્રીકોને બોધ કરશે?
36 What do those words of his mean, 'You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?"
૩૬‘તમે મને શોધશો, પણ હું તમને મળીશ નહિ અને જ્યાં હું જાઉં છું, ત્યાં તમે આવી શકતા નથી એવી જે વાત તેણે કહી તે શી છે?’”
37 On the last day of the Festival--the great day--Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink.
૩૭હવે પર્વના છેલ્લાં તથા મહાન દિવસે ઈસુએ ઊભા રહીને ઊંચા અવાજે કહ્યું કે, ‘જો કોઈ તરસ્યો હોય, તો તે મારી પાસે આવીને પીએ.
38 He who believes in me, from within him--as the Scripture has said--rivers of living water shall flow."
૩૮શાસ્ત્રવચન પ્રમાણે જે કોઈ મારા પર વિશ્વાસ કરે છે, તેના હૃદયમાંથી જીવતા પાણીની નદીઓ વહેશે.’”
39 He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
૩૯પણ તેમના પર વિશ્વાસ કરનારાઓને જે આત્મા મળવાનો હતો તે વિષે તેમણે એ કહ્યું; કેમ કે ઈસુને હજી મહિમાવાન કરવામાં આવ્યા ન હતા, માટે પવિત્ર આત્મા હજી આપવામાં આવ્યો ન હતો.
40 After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet."
૪૦તે માટે લોકોમાંથી કેટલાકે તે વાતો સાંભળીને કહ્યું કે, ‘આવનાર પ્રબોધક ખરેખર તે જ છે.’”
41 Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee?
૪૧બીજાઓએ કહ્યું, ‘એ જ ખ્રિસ્ત છે.’ પણ કેટલાકે કહ્યું કે, ‘શું ગાલીલમાંથી ખ્રિસ્ત આવવાનો છે?’”
42 Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?"
૪૨શું શાસ્ત્રવચનોમાં એવું નથી લખેલું કે, દાઉદના વંશમાંથી તથા બેથલેહેમ ગામમાં દાઉદ હતો ત્યાંથી ખ્રિસ્ત આવવાનો છે?’”
43 So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account.
૪૩એ માટે તેને વિષે લોકોમાં ભાગલાં પડ્યાં.
44 Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him.
૪૪તેઓમાંના કેટલાકે તેને પકડવા ચાહ્યું; પણ તેમના પર કોઈએ હાથ નાખ્યો નહિ.
45 Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?"
૪૫ત્યારે અધિકારીઓ મુખ્ય યાજકોની તથા ફરોશીઓની પાસે આવ્યા; અધિકારીઓએ તેઓને પૂછ્યું કે, ‘તમે તેને કેમ લાવ્યા નહિ?’”
46 "No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers.
૪૬ત્યારે અધિકારીઓએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે ‘એમના જેવું કદી કોઈ માણસ બોલ્યું નથી.’”
47 "Are you deluded too?" replied the Pharisees;
૪૭ત્યારે ફરોશીઓએ તેઓને ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘શું, તમે પણ ગેરમાર્ગે ખેંચાયા?
48 "has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?
૪૮અધિકારીઓ અથવા ફરોશીઓમાંથી શું કોઈએ તેના પર વિશ્વાસ કર્યો છે?
49 But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!"
૪૯પણ આ જે લોકો નિયમશાસ્ત્ર નથી જાણતા તેઓ શાપિત છે.’”
50 Nicodemus interposed--he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them.
૫૦નિકોદેમસ તેઓમાંનો એક, જે અગાઉ ઈસુની પાસે આવ્યો હતો, તે તેઓને પૂછે છે,
51 "Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?"
૫૧‘માણસનું સાંભળ્યાં અગાઉ અને જે તે કરે છે તે જાણ્યાં વિના, આપણું નિયમશાસ્ત્ર શું તેનો ન્યાય કરે છે?’”
52 "Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin."
૫૨તેઓએ તેને ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘શું તું પણ ગાલીલનો છે? શોધ કરીને જો, કેમ કે કોઈ પ્રબોધક ગાલીલમાંથી ઉત્પન્ન થવાનો નથી.’”
53 [So they went away to their several homes;
૫૩પછી તેઓ પોતપોતાને ઘરે ગયા.
