John 6
1 After this Jesus went away across the Lake of Galilee (that is, the Lake of Tiberias).
Danach fuhr Jesus weg über das Meer an der Stadt Tiberias in Galiläa.
2 A vast multitude followed Him, because they witnessed the miracles on the sick which He was constantly performing.
Und es zog ihm viel Volks nach, darum daß sie die Zeichen sahen, die er an den Kranken tat.
3 Then Jesus went up the hill, and sat there with His disciples.
Jesus aber ging hinauf auf einen Berg und setzte sich daselbst mit seinen Jüngern.
4 The Jewish Festival, the Passover, was at hand.
Es war aber nahe Ostern, der Juden Fest.
5 And when He looked round and saw an immense crowd coming towards Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for all these people to eat?"
Da hub Jesus seine Augen auf und siehet, daß viel Volks zu ihm kommt, und spricht zu Philippus: Wo kaufen wir Brot, daß diese essen?
6 He said this to put Philip to the test, for He Himself knew what He was going to do.
(Das sagte er aber, ihn zu versuchen; denn er wußte wohl, was er tun wollte.)
7 "Seven pounds' worth of bread," replied Philip, "is not enough for them all to get even a scanty meal."
Philippus antwortete ihm: Für zweihundert Pfennig Brot ist nicht genug unter sie, daß ein jeglicher unter ihnen ein wenig nehme.
8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,
Spricht zu ihm einer seiner Jünger, Andreas, der Bruder des Simon Petrus:
9 "There is a boy here with five barley loaves and a couple of fish: but what is that among so many?"
Es ist ein Knabe hier, der hat fünf Gerstenbrote und zwei Fische; aber was ist das unter so viele?
10 "Make the people sit down," said Jesus. The ground was covered with thick grass; so they sat down, the adult men numbering about 5,000.
Jesus aber sprach: Schaffet, daß sich das Volk lagere! Es war aber viel Gras an dem Ort. Da lagerten sich bei fünftausend Mann.
11 Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were resting on the ground; and also the fish in like manner--as much as they desired.
Jesus aber nahm die Brote, dankete und gab sie den Jüngern, die Jünger aber denen, die sich gelagert hatten; desselbigengleichen auch von den Fischen, wieviel er wollte.
12 When all were fully satisfied, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the broken portions that remain over, so that nothing be lost."
Da sie aber satt waren, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: Sammelt die übrigen Brocken, daß nichts umkomme!
13 Accordingly they gathered them up; and with the fragments of the five barley loaves--the broken portions that remained over after they had done eating--they filled twelve baskets.
Da sammelten sie und fülleten zwölf Körbe mit Brocken von den fünf Gerstenbroten, die überblieben denen, die gespeiset worden.
14 Thereupon the people, having seen the miracle He had performed, said, "This is indeed the Prophet who was to come into the world."
Da nun die Menschen das Zeichen sahen, das Jesus tat, sprachen sie: Das ist wahrlich der Prophet, der in die Welt kommen soll!
15 Perceiving, however, that they were about to come and carry Him off by force to make Him a king, Jesus withdrew again up the hill alone by Himself.
Da Jesus nun merkete, daß sie kommen würden und ihn haschen, daß sie ihn zum Könige machten, entwich er abermal auf den Berg, er selbst alleine.
16 When evening came on, His disciples went down to the Lake.
Am Abend aber gingen die Jünger hinab an das Meer
17 There they got on board a boat, and pushed off to cross the Lake to Capernaum. By this time it had become dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.
und traten in das Schiff und kamen über das Meer gen Kapernaum. Und es war schon finster worden, und Jesus war nicht zu ihnen kommen.
18 The Lake also was getting rough, because a strong wind was blowing.
Und das Meer erhub sich von einem großen Winde.
19 When, however, they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water and coming near the boat.
Da sie nun gerudert hatten bei fünfundzwanzig oder dreißig Feld Wegs, sahen sie Jesum auf dem Meer dahergehen und nahe zum Schiff kommen; und sie fürchteten sich.
20 They were terrified; but He called to them. "It is I," He said, "do not be afraid."
Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin's; fürchtet euch nicht!
21 Then they were willing to take Him on board; and in a moment the boat reached the shore at the point to which they were going.
Da wollten sie ihn in das Schiff nehmen; und alsbald war das Schiff am Lande, da sie hinfuhren.
22 Next morning the crowd who were still standing about on the other side of the Lake found that there had been but one small boat there, and they had seen that Jesus did not go on board with His disciples, but that His disciples went away without Him.
Des andern Tages sah das Volk, das diesseits des Meeres stund, daß kein ander Schiff daselbst war denn das einige, darein seine Jünger getreten waren, und daß Jesus nicht mit seinen Jüngern in das Schiff getreten war, sondern allein seine Jünger waren weggefahren.
23 Yet a number of small boats came from Tiberias to the neighbourhood of the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
Es kamen aber andere Schiffe von Tiberias nahe zu der Stätte, da sie das Brot gegessen hatten durch des HERRN Danksagung.
24 When however the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they themselves also took boats and came to Capernaum to look for Jesus.
Da nun das Volk sah, daß Jesus nicht da war noch seine Jünger, traten sie auch in die Schiffe und kamen gen Kapernaum und suchten Jesum.
25 So when they had crossed the Lake and had found Him, they asked Him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"
Und da sie ihn fanden jenseit des Meeres, sprachen sie zu ihm: Rabbi, wann bist du herkommen?
26 "In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that you are searching for me not because you have seen miracles, but because you ate the loaves and had a hearty meal.
Jesus antwortete ihnen und sprach: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, ihr suchet mich nicht darum, daß ihr Zeichen gesehen habt, sondern daß ihr von dem Brot gegessen habt und seid satt worden.
27 Bestow your pains not on the food which perishes, but on the food that remains unto the Life of the Ages--that food which will be the Son of Man's gift to you; for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal." (aiōnios g166)
Wirket Speise, nicht die vergänglich ist, sondern die da bleibet in das ewige Leben, welche euch des Menschen Sohn geben wird; denn denselbigen hat Gott der Vater versiegelt. (aiōnios g166)
28 "What are we to do," they asked, "in order to carry out the things that God requires?"
Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Was sollen wir tun, daß wir Gottes Werke wirken?
29 "This," replied Jesus, "is above all the thing that God requires--that you should be believers in Him whom He has sent."
Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Das ist Gottes Werk, daß ihr an den glaubet, den er gesandt hat.
30 "What miracle then," they asked, "do you perform for us to see and become believers in you? What do you do?
Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Was tust du für ein Zeichen, auf daß wir sehen und glauben dir? Was wirkest du?
31 Our forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, as it is written, 'He gave them bread out of Heaven to eat'."
Unsere Väter haben Manna gegessen in der Wüste, wie geschrieben stehet: Er gab ihnen Brot vom Himmel zu essen.
32 "In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that Moses did not give you the bread out of Heaven, but my Father is giving you the bread--the true bread--out of Heaven.
Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Mose hat euch nicht Brot vom Himmel gegeben, sondern mein Vater gibt euch das rechte Brot vom Himmel.
33 For God's bread is that which comes down out of Heaven and gives Life to the world."
Denn dies ist das Brot Gottes, das vom Himmel kommt und gibt der Welt das Leben.
34 "Sir," they said, "always give us that bread."
Da sprachen sie zu ihm: HERR, gib uns allewege solch Brot!
35 "I am the bread of Life," replied Jesus; "he who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never, never thirst.
Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin das Brot des Lebens. Wer zu mir kommt, den wird nicht hungern; und wer an mich glaubet, den wird nimmermehr dürsten.
36 But it is as I have said to you: you have seen me and yet you do not believe.
Aber ich hab's euch gesagt, daß ihr mich gesehen habt und glaubet doch nicht.
37 Every one whom the Father gives me will come to me, and him who comes to me I will never on any account drive away.
Alles, was mir mein Vater gibt, das kommt zu mir; und wer zu mir kommt, den werde ich nicht hinausstoßen.
38 For I have left Heaven and have come down to earth not to seek my own pleasure, but to do the will of Him who sent me.
Denn ich bin vom Himmel kommen, nicht daß ich meinen Willen tue, sondern des, der mich gesandt hat.
39 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that of all that He has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it to life on the last day.
Das ist aber der Wille des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat, daß ich nichts verliere von allem, was er mir gegeben hat, sondern daß ich's auferwecke am Jüngsten Tage.
40 For this is my Father's will, that every one who fixes his gaze on the Son of God and believes in Him should have the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him to life on the last day." (aiōnios g166)
Das ist aber der Wille des, der mich gesandt hat, daß, wer den Sohn siehet und glaubet an ihn, habe das ewige Leben; und ich werde ihn auferwecken am Jüngsten Tage. (aiōnios g166)
41 Now the Jews began to find fault about Him because of His claiming to be the bread which came down out of Heaven.
Da murreten die Juden darüber, daß er sagte: Ich bin das Brot, das vom Himmel kommen ist,
42 They kept asking, "Is not this man Joseph's son? Is he not Jesus, whose father and mother we know? What does he mean by now saying, 'I have come down out of Heaven'?"
und sprachen: Ist dieser nicht Jesus, Josephs Sohn, des Vater und Mutter wir kennen? Wie spricht er denn: Ich bin vom Himmel kommen?
43 "Do not thus find fault among yourselves," replied Jesus;
Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Murret nicht untereinander!
44 "no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; then I will raise him to life on the last day.
Es kann niemand zu mir kommen, es sei denn, daß ihn ziehe der Vater, der mich gesandt hat; und ich werde ihn auferwecken am Jüngsten Tage.
45 It stands written in the Prophets, 'And they shall all of them be taught by God'. Every one who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to me.
Es stehet geschrieben in den Propheten: Sie werden alle von Gott gelehret sein. Wer es nun höret vom Vater und lernet es, der kommt zu mir.
46 No one has ever seen the Father--except Him who is from God. He has seen the Father.
Nicht daß jemand den Vater habe gesehen, außer dem, der vom Vater ist, der hat den Vater gesehen.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubet, der hat das ewige Leben. (aiōnios g166)
48 I am the bread of Life.
Ich bin das Brot des Lebens.
49 Your forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, and they died.
Eure Väter haben Manna gegessen in der Wüste und sind gestorben.
50 Here is the bread that comes down out of Heaven that a man may eat it and not die.
Dies ist das Brot, das vom Himmel kommt, auf daß, wer davon isset, nicht sterbe.
51 I am the living bread come down out of Heaven. If a man eats this bread, he shall live for ever. Moreover the bread which I will give is my flesh given for the life of the world." (aiōn g165)
Ich bin das lebendige Brot, vom Himmel kommen. Wer von diesem Brot essen wird, der wird leben in Ewigkeit. Und das Brot, das ich geben werde, ist mein Fleisch, welches ich geben werde für das Leben der Welt. (aiōn g165)
52 This led to an angry debate among the Jews. "How can this man," they argued, "give us his flesh to eat?"
Da zanketen die Juden untereinander und sprachen: Wie kann dieser uns sein Fleisch zu essen geben?
53 "In most solemn truth I tell you," said Jesus, "that unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no Life in you.
Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Werdet ihr nicht essen das Fleisch des Menschensohnes und trinken sein Blut, so habt ihr kein Leben in euch.
54 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him up on the last day. (aiōnios g166)
Wer mein Fleisch isset und trinket mein Blut, der hat das ewige Leben, und ich werde ihn am Jüngsten Tage auferwecken. (aiōnios g166)
55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
Denn mein Fleisch ist die rechte Speise, und mein Blut ist der rechte Trank.
56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and I remain in union with him.
Wer mein Fleisch isset und trinket mein Blut, der bleibt in mir und ich in ihm.
57 As the ever-living Father has sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also he who eats me will live because of me.
Wie mich gesandt hat der lebendige Vater, und ich lebe um des Vaters willen, also, wer mich isset, derselbige wird auch leben um meinetwillen.
58 This is the bread which came down out of Heaven; it is unlike that which your forefathers ate--for they ate and yet died. He who eats this bread shall live for ever." (aiōn g165)
Dies ist das Brot, das vom Himmel kommen ist, nicht wie eure Väter haben Manna gegessen und sind gestorben. Wer dies Brot isset, der wird leben in Ewigkeit. (aiōn g165)
59 Jesus said all this in the synagogue while teaching at Capernaum.
Solches sagte er in der Schule, da er lehrete zu Kapernaum.
60 Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is hard to accept. Who can listen to such teaching?"
Viele nun seiner Jünger, die das höreten, sprachen: Das ist eine harte Rede, wer kann sie hören?
61 But, knowing in Himself that His disciples were dissatisfied about it, Jesus asked them,
Da Jesus aber bei sich selbst merkete, daß seine Jünger darüber murreten, sprach er zu ihnen: Ärgert euch das?
62 "Does this seem incredible to you? What then if you were to see the Son of Man ascending again where He was before?
Wie, wenn ihr denn sehen werdet des Menschen Sohn auffahren dahin; da er zuvor war?
63 It is the spirit which gives Life. The flesh confers no benefit whatever. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and are Life.
Der Geist ist's, der da lebendig macht; das Fleisch ist kein nütze. Die Worte, die ich rede, die sind Geist und sind Leben.
64 But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.
Aber es sind etliche unter euch, die glauben nicht. Denn Jesus wußte von Anfang wohl, welche nicht glaubend waren, und welcher ihn verraten würde.
65 So He added, "That is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it be granted him by the Father."
Und er sprach: Darum habe ich euch gesagt: Niemand kann zu mir kommen, es sei ihm denn von meinem Vater gegeben.
66 Thereupon many of His disciples left Him and went away, and no longer associated with Him.
Von dem an gingen seiner Jünger viel hinter sich und wandelten hinfort nicht mehr mit ihm.
67 Jesus therefore appealed to the Twelve. "Will you go also?" He asked.
Da sprach Jesus zu den Zwölfen: Wollt ihr auch weggehen?
68 "Master," replied Simon Peter, "to whom shall we go? Your teachings tell us of the Life of the Ages. (aiōnios g166)
Da antwortete ihm Simon Petrus: HERR, wohin sollen wir gehen? Du hast Worte des ewigen Lebens; (aiōnios g166)
69 And we have come to believe and know that you are indeed the Holy One of God."
und wir haben geglaubet und erkannt, daß du bist Christus, der Sohn des lebendigen Gottes.
70 "Did not I choose you--the Twelve?" said Jesus, "and even of you one is a devil."
Jesus antwortete ihm: Hab' ich nicht euch Zwölfe erwählet? und euer einer ist ein Teufel.
71 He alluded to Judas, the son of Simon the Iscariot. For he it was who, though one of the Twelve, was afterwards to betray Him.
Er redete aber von dem Judas, Simons Sohn, Ischariot; derselbige verriet ihn hernach und war der Zwölfen einer.
