John 18
1 After offering this prayer Jesus went out with His disciples to a place on the further side of the Ravine of the Cedars, where there was a garden which He entered--Himself and His disciples.
Сказавши це, Ісус зі Своїми учнями пішов на другий бік потоку Кедрон, де був сад, куди увійшов Він та Його учні.
2 Now Judas also, who at that very time was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often resorted there with His disciples.
Юда, який Його зрадив, також знав це місце, бо Ісус часто збирався там зі Своїми учнями.
3 So Judas, followed by the battalion and by a detachment of the Temple police sent by the High Priests and Pharisees, came there with torches and lamps and weapons.
Тоді Юда, узявши когорту воїнів і слуг первосвященників та фарисеїв, прийшов туди з ліхтарями, факелами та зброєю.
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all that was about to befall Him, went out to meet them. "Who are you looking for?" He asked them.
Ісус, знаючи все, що має з Ним статися, вийшов та запитав: ―Кого шукаєте?
5 "For Jesus the Nazarene," was the answer. "I am he," He replied. (Now Judas who was betraying Him was also standing with them.)
Вони відповіли: ―Ісуса з Назарета. [Тоді] Він сказав: ―Це Я. Юда, котрий Його зрадив, також стояв із ними.
6 As soon then as He said to them, "I am he," they went backwards and fell to the ground.
Коли Він сказав їм: «Це Я», вони відступили назад і впали на землю.
7 Again therefore He asked them, "Who are you looking for?" "For Jesus the Nazarene," they said.
Він знов запитав їх: ―Кого ви шукаєте? Вони сказали: ―Ісуса з Назарета.
8 "I have told you," replied Jesus, "that I am he. If therefore you are looking for me, let these my disciples go their way."
Ісус відповів: ―Я ж вам сказав, що це Я. Тож якщо шукаєте Мене, відпустіть цих [людей], нехай ідуть.
9 He made this request in order that the words He had spoken might be fulfilled, "As for those whom Thou hast given me, I have not lost one."
[Ісус сказав це], щоб збулося Слово, яке Він сказав раніше: «Я не загубив жодного з тих, кого Ти Мені дав».
10 Simon Peter, however, having a sword, drew it, and, aiming at the High Priest's servant, cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
Тоді Симон Петро, маючи меч, вихопив його, ударив раба первосвященника й відрубав йому праве вухо. Ім’я того раба було Малх.
11 Jesus therefore said to Peter, "Put back your sword. Shall I refuse to drink the cup of sorrow which the Father has given me to drink?"
Ісус сказав Петрові: ―Поклади меча на його місце! Хіба Я не маю пити чашу, яку дав Мені Отець?
12 So the battalion and their tribune and the Jewish police closed in, and took Jesus and bound Him.
Тоді воїни, сотник та юдейські слуги заарештували Ісуса. Вони зв’язали Його
13 They then brought Him to Annas first; for Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was High Priest that year.
та привели спочатку до Анни, бо він був тестем Каяфи, який був первосвященником того року.
14 (It was this Caiaphas who had advised the Jews, saying, "It is to your interest that one man should die for the People.")
Це був той Каяфа, який порадив юдеям, що краще, коли один Чоловік помре за народ.
15 Meanwhile Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so also was another disciple. The latter was known to the High Priest, and went in with Jesus into the court of the High Priest's palace.
Симон Петро й ще один учень пішли за Ісусом. Той учень був добре знайомий первосвященникові, тож він зайшов з Ісусом у двір первосвященника,
16 But Peter remained standing outside the door, till the disciple who was acquainted with the High Priest came out and induced the portress to let Peter in.
а Петро залишився стояти біля воріт ззовні. Тоді учень, який був знайомий первосвященникові, повернувся, поговорив із воротаркою й провів Петра.
17 This led the girl, the portress, to ask Peter, "Are you also one of this man's disciples?" "No, I am not," he replied.
Служниця, яка була воротаркою, запитала Петра: ―Ти часом не один з учнів Цього Чоловіка? Він відповів: ―Ні!
18 Now because it was cold the servants and the police had lighted a charcoal fire, and were standing and warming themselves; and Peter too remained with them, standing and warming himself.
Було холодно, і слуги та раби, розпаливши вогонь, стояли біля нього, щоб зігрітися. Петро також стояв із ними, гріючись.
19 So the High Priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and His teaching.
Тим часом первосвященник запитав Ісуса про Його учнів та Його вчення.
20 "As for me," replied Jesus, "I have spoken openly to the world. I have continually taught in some synagogue or in the Temple where all the Jews are wont to assemble, and I have said nothing in secret.
Ісус відповів: ―Я прямо говорив світові. Завжди навчав у синагогах і в Храмі, де збираються всі юдеї. Я нічого не казав таємно.
21 Why do you question me? Question those who heard what it was I said to them: these witnesses here know what I said."
Чому Мене питаєш? Запитай тих, хто Мене слухав. Ось вони знають, що Я казав.
22 Upon His saying this, one of the officers standing by struck Him with his open hand, asking Him as he did so, "Is that the way you answer the High Priest?"
Коли [Ісус] сказав це, один зі слуг, що стояв поблизу, вдарив Ісуса в обличчя, кажучи: ―Це так Ти відповідаєш первосвященникові?
23 "If I have spoken wrongly," replied Jesus, "bear witness to it as wrong; but if rightly, why that blow?"
Ісус відповів: ―Якщо Я сказав щось погане, засвідчи, що погане. Але якщо Я говорив правду, то чому ти Мене б’єш?
24 So Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the High Priest.
Тоді Анна послав Його зв’язаного до первосвященника Каяфи.
25 But Simon Peter remained standing and warming himself, and this led to their asking him, "Are you also one of his disciples?" He denied it, and said, "No, I am not."
Тим часом Симон Петро стояв, гріючись [біля вогнища]. Тож запитали його: ―Хіба ти не один з Його учнів? Він заперечив кажучи: ―Ні!
26 One of the High Priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with him?"
Один із рабів первосвященника, родич того чоловіка, якому Петро відтяв вухо, сказав: ―Хіба не тебе я бачив із Ним у саду?
27 Once more Peter denied it, and immediately a cock crowed.
Петро знову заперечив це. І одразу заспівав півень.
28 So they brought Jesus from Caiaphas's house to the Praetorium. It was the early morning, and they would not enter the Praetorium themselves for fear of defilement, and in order that they might be able to eat the Passover.
Тоді повели Ісуса від Каяфи до преторії. Уже був ранок, і вони не увійшли до преторії, щоб не осквернитися, бо мали їсти пасху.
29 Accordingly Pilate came out to them and inquired, "What accusation have you to bring against this man?"
Тож Пилат вийшов до них і запитав: ―Які звинувачення ви висуваєте проти Цього Чоловіка?
30 "If the man were not a criminal," they replied, "we would not have handed him over to you."
Вони відповіли Йому: ―Якби Він не був злочинцем, ми б не привели Його до тебе.
31 "Take him yourselves," said Pilate, "and judge him by your Law." "We have no power," replied the Jews, "to put any man to death."
Пилат сказав їм: ―Візьміть Його та судіть за вашим Законом. Юдеї відповіли йому: ―Нам не дозволено нікого засуджувати на смерть.
32 They said this that the words might be fulfilled in which Jesus predicted the kind of death He was to die.
Це сталося, щоб здійснилися слова Ісуса, через які Він показав, якою смертю має померти.
33 Re-entering the Praetorium, therefore, Pilate called Jesus and asked Him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
Тоді Пилат знову зайшов у преторію, покликав Ісуса й сказав Йому: ―Ти Цар юдеїв?
34 "Do you say this of yourself, or have others told it you about me?" replied Jesus.
Ісус відповів: ―Ти від себе кажеш це чи інші сказали тобі про Мене?
35 "Am I a Jew?" exclaimed Pilate; "it is your own nation and the High Priests who have handed you over to me. What have you done?"
Пилат відповів: ―Хіба я юдей? Це Твій народ і первосвященники видали мені Тебе. Що Ти зробив?
36 "My kingdom," replied Jesus, "does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my subjects would have resolutely fought to save me from being delivered up to the Jews. But, as a matter of fact, my kingdom has not this origin."
Ісус відповів: ―Моє Царство не від цього світу. Якби Моє Царство було від цього світу, Мої слуги боролися б, щоб Я не був виданий юдеям. Але тепер Моє Царство не звідси.
37 "So then you are a king!" rejoined Pilate. "Yes," said Jesus, "you say truly that I am a king. For this purpose I was born, and for this purpose I have come into the world--to give testimony for the truth. Every one who is a friend of the truth listens to my voice."
Тоді Пилат запитав Його: ―Отже, Ти Цар? Ісус відповів: ―Ти кажеш, що Я Цар. Я для того народився й прийшов у світ, щоб свідчити про істину. Кожен, хто від істини, слухає Мій голос.
38 "What is truth?" said Pilate. But no sooner had he spoken the words than he went out again to the Jews and told them, "I find no crime in him.
[Тоді] Пилат запитав: ―Що таке істина? І, сказавши це, він знову вийшов до юдеїв і сказав їм: ―Я не знаходжу ніякої провини в Ньому.
39 But you have a custom that I should release one prisoner to you at the Passover. So shall I release to you the King of the Jews?"
Але у вас є звичай: на Пасху я звільняю одного [з в’язнів]. Ви хочете, щоб я відпустив вам Царя юдеїв?
40 With a roar of voices they again cried out, saying, "Not this man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a robber.
Вони знов закричали кажучи: ―Ні, не Його, а Варавву! Варавва ж був бунтівником.
