John 18
1 After offering this prayer Jesus went out with His disciples to a place on the further side of the Ravine of the Cedars, where there was a garden which He entered--Himself and His disciples.
Da Jesus solches gesprochen hatte, ging Er hinaus mit Seinen Jüngern über den Bach Kidron. Da war ein Garten, und in diesen ging Er und Seine Jünger hinein.
2 Now Judas also, who at that very time was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often resorted there with His disciples.
Judas aber, der Ihn verriet, wußte auch den Ort, weil Jesus Sich mit Seinen Jüngern oft daselbst versammelt hatte.
3 So Judas, followed by the battalion and by a detachment of the Temple police sent by the High Priests and Pharisees, came there with torches and lamps and weapons.
Judas nahm nun die Kohorte und Amtsdiener der Hohenpriester und Pharisäer und kam dahin mit Fackeln und Lampen und Waffen.
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all that was about to befall Him, went out to meet them. "Who are you looking for?" He asked them.
Jesus nun, Der alles wußte, was über Ihn kommen sollte, kam heraus und sprach zu ihnen: Wen sucht ihr?
5 "For Jesus the Nazarene," was the answer. "I am he," He replied. (Now Judas who was betraying Him was also standing with them.)
Sie antworteten Ihm: Jesus, den Nazarener. Spricht zu ihnen Jesus: Ich bin es. Judas aber, der Ihn verriet, stand auch bei ihnen.
6 As soon then as He said to them, "I am he," they went backwards and fell to the ground.
Wie Er nun zu ihnen sprach: Ich bin es! wichen sie zurück und fielen zu Boden.
7 Again therefore He asked them, "Who are you looking for?" "For Jesus the Nazarene," they said.
Da fragte Er sie abermals: Wen sucht ihr? Sie aber sagten: Jesus, den Nazarener.
8 "I have told you," replied Jesus, "that I am he. If therefore you are looking for me, let these my disciples go their way."
Jesus antwortete: Ich habe euch gesagt, daß Ich es bin. Wenn ihr nun Mich suchet, so lasset diese hingehen!
9 He made this request in order that the words He had spoken might be fulfilled, "As for those whom Thou hast given me, I have not lost one."
Auf daß erfüllt würde das Wort, das Er gesprochen: Ich habe derer keinen verloren, die Du Mir gegeben hast.
10 Simon Peter, however, having a sword, drew it, and, aiming at the High Priest's servant, cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
Simon Petrus nun, der ein Schwert hatte, zog es heraus, schlug nach dem Knechte des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm das rechte Ohr ab. Der Name des Knechtes aber war Malchus.
11 Jesus therefore said to Peter, "Put back your sword. Shall I refuse to drink the cup of sorrow which the Father has given me to drink?"
Da sprach Jesus zu Petrus: Stecke das Schwert hinein in die Scheide! Soll Ich den Kelch nicht trinken, den Mir der Vater gegeben hat?
12 So the battalion and their tribune and the Jewish police closed in, and took Jesus and bound Him.
Die Kohorte nun und der Oberhauptmann und die Amtsdiener der Juden ergriffen Jesus und banden Ihn.
13 They then brought Him to Annas first; for Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was High Priest that year.
Und sie führten Ihn weg zuerst zu Hannas; denn er war der Schwiegervater des Kaiaphas, der selbigen Jahres Hoherpriester war.
14 (It was this Caiaphas who had advised the Jews, saying, "It is to your interest that one man should die for the People.")
Kaiaphas aber war es, der den Juden zuriet, es wäre zuträglich, daß ein Mensch umkäme für das Volk.
15 Meanwhile Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so also was another disciple. The latter was known to the High Priest, and went in with Jesus into the court of the High Priest's palace.
Simon Petrus aber folgte Jesus nach, und ein anderer Jünger. Selbiger Jünger aber war dem Hohenpriester bekannt und ging mit Jesus hinein in des Hohenpriesters Hof.
16 But Peter remained standing outside the door, till the disciple who was acquainted with the High Priest came out and induced the portress to let Peter in.
Petrus aber stand draußen vor der Tür. Da ging der andere Jünger, der dem Hohenpriester bekannt war, hinaus und sprach mit der Türhüterin und führte Petrus herein.
17 This led the girl, the portress, to ask Peter, "Are you also one of this man's disciples?" "No, I am not," he replied.
Da sprach die Magd, die Türhüterin, zu Petrus: Bist du nicht auch von den Jüngern dieses Menschen? Spricht er: Ich bin es nicht.
18 Now because it was cold the servants and the police had lighted a charcoal fire, and were standing and warming themselves; and Peter too remained with them, standing and warming himself.
Die Knechte und Amtsdiener aber standen an einem Kohlenfeuer, das sie gemacht hatten, denn es war kalt, und wärmten sich. Petrus aber stand bei ihnen und wärmte sich.
19 So the High Priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and His teaching.
Der Hohepriester fragte nun Jesus über Seine Jünger und über Seine Lehre.
20 "As for me," replied Jesus, "I have spoken openly to the world. I have continually taught in some synagogue or in the Temple where all the Jews are wont to assemble, and I have said nothing in secret.
Jesus antwortete ihm: Ich habe frei heraus geredet zu der Welt. Ich habe allezeit in der Synagoge und im Heiligtum gelehrt, wo alle Juden zusammenkommen und habe nichts im Verborgenen geredet.
21 Why do you question me? Question those who heard what it was I said to them: these witnesses here know what I said."
Was fragst du Mich? Frage die, so gehört haben, was Ich zu ihnen redete. Siehe, dieselben wissen, was Ich sagte.
22 Upon His saying this, one of the officers standing by struck Him with his open hand, asking Him as he did so, "Is that the way you answer the High Priest?"
Da Er solches sagte, gab einer der Amtsdiener, der dabeistand, Jesus einen Backenstreich und sagte: Antwortest Du also dem Hohenpriester?
23 "If I have spoken wrongly," replied Jesus, "bear witness to it as wrong; but if rightly, why that blow?"
Jesus antwortete ihm: Habe Ich böse geredet, so zeuge von dem Bösen, habe Ich aber wohl geredet, was schlägst du Mich?
24 So Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the High Priest.
Hannas sandte Ihn gebunden zu Kaiaphas, dem Hohenpriester.
25 But Simon Peter remained standing and warming himself, and this led to their asking him, "Are you also one of his disciples?" He denied it, and said, "No, I am not."
Simon Petrus aber stand und wärmte sich: Da sagten sie zu ihm: Bist nicht auch du von Seinen Jüngern? Er leugnete und sagte: Ich bin es nicht.
26 One of the High Priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with him?"
Spricht zu ihm einer der Knechte des Hohenpriesters, ein Verwandter dessen, dem Petrus das Ohr abhieb: Sah ich dich nicht in dem Garten bei Ihm?
27 Once more Peter denied it, and immediately a cock crowed.
Da leugnete Petrus abermals, und alsbald krähte der Hahn.
28 So they brought Jesus from Caiaphas's house to the Praetorium. It was the early morning, and they would not enter the Praetorium themselves for fear of defilement, and in order that they might be able to eat the Passover.
Da führten sie Jesus von Kaiaphas in das Richthaus. Es war aber am Morgen. Und sie gingen nicht selbst hinein in das Richthaus, auf daß sie sich nicht verunreinigten, sondern das Pascha essen möchten.
29 Accordingly Pilate came out to them and inquired, "What accusation have you to bring against this man?"
Pilatus kam dann heraus zu ihnen und sprach: Was für Klage bringt ihr wider diesen Menschen?
30 "If the man were not a criminal," they replied, "we would not have handed him over to you."
Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Wäre Dieser nicht ein Übeltäter, wir hätten Ihn dir nicht überantwortet.
31 "Take him yourselves," said Pilate, "and judge him by your Law." "We have no power," replied the Jews, "to put any man to death."
Da sprach Pilatus zu ihnen: Nehmt ihr Ihn und richtet Ihn nach eurem Gesetz. Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Es ist uns nicht erlaubt, jemand zu töten.
32 They said this that the words might be fulfilled in which Jesus predicted the kind of death He was to die.
Auf daß erfüllt würde das Wort Jesu, das Er sprach, indem Er anzeigte, welches Todes Er sterben würde.
33 Re-entering the Praetorium, therefore, Pilate called Jesus and asked Him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
Pilatus ging nun wiederum hinein in das Richthaus und rief Jesus und sprach zu Ihm: Bist Du der Juden König?
34 "Do you say this of yourself, or have others told it you about me?" replied Jesus.
Jesus antwortete ihm: Sagst du solches von dir selbst, oder haben dir es andere von Mir gesagt?
35 "Am I a Jew?" exclaimed Pilate; "it is your own nation and the High Priests who have handed you over to me. What have you done?"
Pilatus antwortete: Bin Ich ein Jude? Deine Völkerschaft und die Hohenpriester haben Dich mir überantwortet. Was hast Du getan?
36 "My kingdom," replied Jesus, "does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my subjects would have resolutely fought to save me from being delivered up to the Jews. But, as a matter of fact, my kingdom has not this origin."
Jesus antwortete: Mein Reich ist nicht aus dieser Welt. Wäre Mein Reich aus dieser Welt, so würden Meine Diener ringen, daß Ich den Juden nicht überantwortet würde. Nun ist aber Mein Reich nicht von hinnen.
37 "So then you are a king!" rejoined Pilate. "Yes," said Jesus, "you say truly that I am a king. For this purpose I was born, and for this purpose I have come into the world--to give testimony for the truth. Every one who is a friend of the truth listens to my voice."
Da sprach Pilatus zu Ihm: Also bist Du König? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es. Ich bin König. Ich bin dazu geboren und bin dazu in die Welt gekommen, daß Ich für die Wahrheit zeuge. Jeder, der aus der Wahrheit ist, hört Meine Stimme.
38 "What is truth?" said Pilate. But no sooner had he spoken the words than he went out again to the Jews and told them, "I find no crime in him.
Spricht Pilatus zu Ihm: Was ist Wahrheit? Und da er das gesagt hatte, ging er wiederum hinaus zu den Juden und sagte zu ihnen: Ich finde keine Schuld an Ihm.
39 But you have a custom that I should release one prisoner to you at the Passover. So shall I release to you the King of the Jews?"
Ihr habt aber eine Gewohnheit, daß ich einen auf das Pascha losgebe. Seid ihr nun willens, daß ich euch den König der Juden losgebe?
40 With a roar of voices they again cried out, saying, "Not this man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a robber.
Da schrien sie wiederum alle laut: Nicht Diesen, sondern Barabbas. Barabbas aber war ein Räuber.
