John 16

1 "These things I have spoken to you in order to clear stumbling-blocks out of your path.

Solches habe ich zu euch geredet, damit ihr nicht Anstoß nehmet.

2 You will be excluded from the synagogues; nay more, the time is coming when any one who has murdered one of you will suppose he is offering service to God.

Sie werden euch von der Synagoge ausschließen, ja, es kommt die Stunde, daß jeder, der euch tötet, meinen wird, Gott einen Dienst zu tun.

3 And they will do these things because they have failed to recognize the Father and to discover who I am.

Und das werden sie tun, weil sie weder den Vater, noch mich, erkannt haben.

4 But I have spoken these things to you in order that when the time for their accomplishment comes you may remember them, and may recollect that I told you. I did not, however, tell you all this at first, because I was still with you.

Aber solches habe ich zu euch geredet, damit wenn die Stunde kommt, ihr euch daran erinnert, daß ich es euch gesagt habe. Solches habe ich euch aber nicht von Anfang an gesagt, weil ich bei euch war.

5 But now I an returning to Him who sent me; and not one of you asks me where I am going.

Jetzt aber gehe ich hin zu dem, der mich gesandt hat, und keiner von euch fragt mich: Wohin gehst du?

6 But grief has filled your hearts because I have said all this to you.

Sondern weil ich solches zu euch geredet habe, hat Traurigkeit euer Herz erfüllt.

7 "Yet it is the truth that I am telling you--it is to your advantage that I go away. For unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

Aber ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Es ist gut für euch, daß ich fortgehe. Denn wenn ich nicht fortgehe, so kommt der Beistand nicht zu euch; wenn ich aber fortgehe, so werde ich ihn zu euch senden.

8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world in respect of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; --

Und ist er gekommen, so wird er die Welt überführen inbetreff der Sünde, inbetreff der Gerechtigkeit, und inbetreff des Gerichts.

9 of sin, because they do not believe in me;

Inbetreff der Sünde, daß sie nicht an mich glauben;

10 of righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you will no longer see me;

Inbetreff der Gerechtigkeit, daß ich zum Vater gehe, und mich nicht mehr sehet;

11 of judgement, because the Prince of this world is under sentence.

Inbetreff des Gerichts, daß der Fürst dieser Welt gerichtet ist.

12 "I have much more to say to you, but you are unable at present to bear the burden of it.

Ich habe euch noch viel zu sagen, aber ihr könnt es jetzt nicht tragen.

13 But when He has come--the Spirit of Truth--He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak as Himself originating what He says, but all that He hears He will speak, and He will make known the future to you.

Wann aber jener gekommen ist, der Geist der Wahrheit, so wird er euch in die ganze Wahrheit den Weg zeigen; denn er wird nicht von sich selbst reden, sondern was er hören wird, das wird er reden, und was kommt, das wird er euch verkündigen.

14 He will glorify me, because He will take of what is mine and will make it known to you.

Derselbige wird mich verherrlichen, denn von den Meinen wird er es nehmen, und euch verkündigen.

15 Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said that the Spirit of Truth takes of what is mine and will make it known to you.

Alles, was der Vater hat, ist mein, darum habe ich gesagt, daß er´s von dem Meinen nehme, und euch verkündige. -

16 "A little while and you see me no more, and again a little while and you shall see me."

Über ein Kleines, so sehet ihr mich nicht, und wieder über ein Kleines, so werdet ihr mich sehen, weil ich zum Vater gehe.

17 Some of His disciples therefore said to one another, "What does this mean which He is telling us, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father'?"

Da sprachen etliche von seinen Jüngern zu einander: Was ist das, was er uns sagt: über ein Kleines, so sehet ihr mich nicht, und wieder über ein Kleines, so werdet ihr mich sehen? und: Weil ich zum Vater gehe?

18 So they asked one another repeatedly, "What can that 'little while' mean which He speaks of? We do not understand His words."

Da sagten sie: Was ist das, was er sagt: über ein Kleines? Wir wissen nicht, was er redet. -

19 Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask Him, and He said, "Is this what you are questioning one another about--my saying, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me'?

Da nun Jesus wußte, daß sie ihn fragen wollten, sprach er zu ihnen: Deswegen befragt ihr euch untereinander, weil ich sagte: über ein Kleines, so sehet ihr mich nicht, und wieder über ein Kleines, so werdet ihr mich sehen?

20 In most solemn truth I tell you that you will weep aloud and lament, but the world will be glad. You will mourn, but your grief will be turned into gladness.

Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ihr werdet weinen, und wehklagen, die Welt aber wird sich freuen; ihr aber werdet traurig sein, doch soll eure Trauer zur Freude werden.

21 A woman, when she is in labour, has sorrow, because her time has come. But when she has given birth to the babe, she no longer remembers the pain, because of her joy at a child being born into the world.

Das Weib, wenn sie gebiert, hat Traurigkeit, weil ihre Stunde gekommen ist; wenn sie aber das Kindlein geboren hat, so gedenkt sie nicht mehr der Drangsal, um der Freude willen, daß ein Mensch zur Welt geboren ist.

22 So you also now have sorrow; but I shall see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and your gladness no one will take away from you.

So habt auch ihr jetzt Traurigkeit, aber ich werde euch wiedersehen, und euer Herz wird sich freuen, und eure Freude nimmt niemand von euch.

23 You will put no questions to me then. "In most solemn truth I tell you that whatever you ask the Father for in my name He will give you.

Und an jenem Tage werdet ihr mich nichts fragen. Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Was ihr den Vater bitten werdet in meinem Namen, das wird er euch geben.

24 As yet you have not asked for anything in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your hearts may be filled with gladness.

Bis jetzt habt ihr nicht gebeten in meinem Namen; bittet und ihr werdet empfangen, damit eure Freude völlig werde.

25 "All this I have spoken to you in veiled language. The time is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in veiled language, but will tell you about the Father in plain words.

Solches habe ich bildlicherweise zu euch geredet, aber es kommt die Stunde, wo ich nicht mehr bildlicherweise zu euch reden werde, sondern frei heraus werde ich euch von dem Vater verkündigen.

26 At that time you will make your requests in my name; and I do not promise to ask the Father on your behalf,

An jenem Tage werdet ihr in meinem Namen bitten, und ich sage euch nicht, daß ich den Vater euretwegen bitten werde.

27 for the Father Himself holds you dear, because you have held me dear and have believed that I came from the Father's presence.

Denn er selbst, der Vater, liebt euch, weil ihr mich geliebt habt, und geglaubt, daß ich von Gott ausgegangen bin.

28 I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."

Ich bin vom Vater ausgegangen, und in die Welt gekommen; wiederum verlasse ich die Welt, und gehe zum Vater.

29 "Ah, now you are using plain language," said His disciples, "and are uttering no figure of speech!

Sagen ihm seine Jünger: Siehe, jetzt redest du frei heraus, und redest nicht bildlicher Weise.

30 Now we know that you have all knowledge, and do not need to be pressed with questions. Through this we believe that you came from God."

Jetzt wissen wir, daß du alles weißt, und nicht nötig hast, daß dich jemand frage; darum glauben wir, daß du von Gott ausgegangen bist.

31 "Do you at last believe?" replied Jesus.

Jesus antwortete ihnen: Jetzt glaubet ihr?

32 "Remember that the time is coming, nay, has already come, for you all to be dispersed each to his own home and to leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.

Siehe es kommt die Stunde, und ist schon jetzt gekommen, daß ihr zerstreut werdet, ein jeglicher in das Seine, und mich allein lasset; aber ich bin nicht allein, denn der Vater ist bei mir.

33 "I have spoken all this to you in order that in me you may have peace. In the world you have affliction. But keep up your courage: I have won the victory over the world."

Dieses habe ich zu euch geredet, damit ihr in mir Frieden habet; in der Welt habt ihr Drangsal, aber seid getrost, ich habe die Welt besiegt.
