John 13
1 Now just before the Feast of the Passover this incident took place. Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father; and having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
Um dia antes da festa da Páscoa, Jesus sabia que havia chegado o momento de deixar este mundo e ir se juntar ao seu Pai. Ele amou os seus que estavam neste mundo e, agora, demonstrava o completo e verdadeiro amor que sentia por eles.
2 While supper was proceeding, the Devil having by this time suggested to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, the thought of betraying Him, Jesus,
Jesus e os discípulos estavam jantando. E o diabo já havia colocado na mente de Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes, o pensamento de trair Jesus.
3 although He knew that the Father had put everything into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was now going to God,
Jesus sabia que o Pai tinha colocado tudo sob o seu poder, e que ele tinha vindo de Deus e que para Deus estava voltando.
4 rose from the table, threw off His upper garments, and took a towel and tied it round Him.
Então, Jesus ficou em pé, tirou seu manto e enrolou uma toalha em volta da cintura.
5 Then He poured water into a basin, and proceeded to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel which He had put round Him.
Ele colocou água em uma bacia e começou a lavar os pés dos discípulos, secando-os com a toalha que havia amarrado na cintura.
6 When He came to Simon Peter, Peter objected. "Master," he said, "are you going to wash my feet?"
Ele se aproximou de Simão Pedro, que lhe perguntou: “O Senhor irá lavar os meus pés?”
7 "What I am doing," answered Jesus, "for the present you do not know, but afterwards you shall know."
Jesus respondeu: “Você não compreende o que estou fazendo por você agora. Mas, um dia, entenderá.”
8 "Never, while the world lasts," said Peter, "shall you wash my feet." "If I do not wash you," replied Jesus, "you have no share with me." (aiōn g165)
“Não!”, Pedro protestou. “Você nunca lavará os meus pés!” Jesus respondeu: “Se eu não fizer isso, você não será mais meu discípulo!” (aiōn g165)
9 "Master," said Peter, "wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head."
“Então, Senhor, lave não apenas os meus pés, mas as minhas mãos e a minha cabeça também!”, Simão Pedro exclamou.
10 "Any one who has lately bathed," said Jesus, "does not need to wash more than his feet, but is clean all over. And you my disciples are clean, and yet this is not true of all of you."
Jesus respondeu: “Aqueles que tomaram banho só precisam lavar os pés e, assim, estarão completamente limpos. Vocês estão limpos, mas não todos.”
11 For He knew who was betraying Him, and that was why He said, "You are not all of you clean."
Pois ele sabia quem era o traidor. É por isto que ele disse: “Vocês estão limpos, mas não todos.”
12 So after He had washed their feet, put on His garments again, and returned to the table, He said to them, "Do you understand what I have done to you?
Depois que Jesus lavou os pés deles, ele colocou o seu manto novamente e se sentou. Ele lhes perguntou: “Vocês compreendem o que eu fiz?
13 You call me 'The Rabbi' and 'The Master,' and rightly so, for such I am.
Vocês me chamam de ‘Mestre’ e ‘Senhor’ e têm razão, pois é isto o que eu sou.
14 If I then, your Master and Rabbi, have washed your feet, it is also your duty to wash one another's feet.
Então, se eu, seu Mestre e Senhor, lavei seus pés, vocês devem lavar os pés uns dos outros.
15 For I have set you an example in order that you may do what I have done to you.
Eu dei a vocês o exemplo. Assim, façam como eu fiz a vocês.
16 In most solemn truth I tell you that a servant is not superior to his master, nor is a messenger superior to him who sent him.
Eu lhes digo que isto é verdade: os empregados não são mais importantes do que o seu patrão. E aquele que foi enviado não é mais importante do que aquele que o enviou.
17 If you know all this, blessed are you if you act accordingly.
Agora que vocês já entendem estas coisas, serão felizes se as praticarem.
18 I am not speaking of all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but things are as they are in order that the Scripture may be fulfilled, which says, 'He who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'
Eu não estou falando sobre todos vocês, pois eu conheço aqueles que foram escolhidos por mim. Mas, isto acontece para que se cumpra a Escritura: ‘Aquele que compartilha o alimento comigo virou-se contra mim.’
19 From this time forward I tell you things before they happen, in order that when they do happen you may believe that I am He.
Estou lhes dizendo isso agora, antes que aconteça, para que, quando acontecer, vocês se convençam de que eu sou quem sou.
20 In most solemn truth I tell you that he who receives whoever I send receives me, and that he who receives me receives Him who sent me."
Eu lhes digo que isto é verdade: quem receber bem qualquer um que eu envie me recebe bem. E quem me recebe, recebe aquele que me enviou.”
21 After speaking thus Jesus was troubled in spirit and said with deep earnestness, "In most solemn truth I tell you that one of you will betray me."
Após ter dito isso, Jesus ficou muito aflito e declarou: “Eu lhes digo que isto é verdade: um de vocês irá me trair.”
22 The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss to know to which of them He was referring.
Os discípulos olharam uns para os outros, imaginando sobre qual deles Jesus estava falando.
23 There was at table one of His disciples--the one Jesus loved-- reclining with his head on Jesus's bosom.
O discípulo a quem Jesus amava estava sentado ao lado dele na mesa, inclinado próximo a ele.
24 Making a sign therefore to him, Simon Peter said, "Tell us to whom he is referring."
Simão Pedro fez um sinal para ele e disse para que perguntasse a Jesus a respeito de qual deles ele estava falando.
25 So he, having his head on Jesus's bosom, leaned back and asked, "Master, who is it?"
Então, ele se aproximou de Jesus e perguntou: “Senhor, quem irá traí-lo?”
26 "It is the one," answered Jesus, "for whom I shall dip this piece of bread and to whom I shall give it." Accordingly He dipped the piece of bread, and took it and gave it to Judas, the son of the Iscariot Simon.
Jesus respondeu: “É aquele a quem eu vou dar um pedaço de pão passado no molho deste prato.”
27 Then, after Judas had received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. "Lose no time about it," said Jesus to him.
Após molhar o pedaço de pão, ele o deu a Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes. Assim que Judas comeu o pão, Satanás entrou nele. Jesus lhe disse: “O que você irá fazer, faça rápido!”
28 But why He said this no one else at the table understood.
Ninguém dos que estavam à mesa entendeu o que Jesus quis dizer com isso.
29 Some, however, supposed that because Judas had the money-box Jesus meant, "Buy what we require for the Festival," or that he should give something to the poor.
Como Judas era o responsável pelo dinheiro dos apóstolos, alguns deles pensaram que Jesus estava falando para que Judas fosse comprar o que era necessário para a festa da Páscoa, ou que doasse algo para os pobres.
30 So Judas took the piece of bread and immediately went out. And it was night.
Judas saiu imediatamente após ter comido o pedaço de pão. E era noite.
31 So when he was gone out, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him.
Depois que Judas saiu, Jesus disse: “Agora o Filho do Homem foi glorificado e, por intermédio dele, Deus também foi glorificado.
32 Moreover God will glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him without delay.
Se Deus foi glorificado por meio dele, então, Deus irá glorificar o Filho nele mesmo e o glorificará imediatamente.
33 Dear children, I am still with you a little longer. You will seek me, but, as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going you cannot come,' so for the present I say to you.
Meus filhos, eu ficarei com vocês apenas por um pouco mais de tempo. Vocês irão procurar por mim, mas eu lhes digo agora exatamente como disse aos judeus: vocês não podem ir para onde eu vou.
34 A new commandment I give you, to love one another; that as I have loved you, you also may love one another.
Eu lhes dou um novo mandamento: Amem uns aos outros. Amem uns aos outros da mesma maneira que eu os amei.
35 It is by this that every one will know that you are my disciples--if you love one another."
Se vocês amarem uns aos outros, provarão a todos que são meus discípulos.”
36 "Master," inquired Simon Peter, "where are you going?" "Where I am going," replied Jesus, "you cannot be my follower now, but you shall be later."
Simão Pedro lhe perguntou: “Senhor, para onde é que você vai?” Jesus respondeu: “Você não pode me seguir agora para onde eu estou indo. Mais tarde você irá me seguir.”
37 "Master," asked Peter again, "why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life on your behalf.
“Senhor, por que eu não posso segui-lo agora?”, Pedro perguntou. “Eu daria a minha vida pelo senhor.”
38 "You say you will lay down your life on my behalf!" said Jesus; "in most solemn truth I tell you that the cock will not crow before you have three times disowned me."
“Você realmente está pronto para morrer por mim? Eu lhe digo que isto é verdade: antes que o galo cante, você irá me negar três vezes”, Jesus respondeu.
