Acts 7
1 Then the High Priest asked him, "Are these statements true?"
Entonces el sumo sacerdote dijo: ¿Son ciertas estas cosas?
2 The reply of Stephen was, "Sirs--brethren and fathers--listen to me. God Most Glorious appeared to our forefather Abraham when he was living in Mesopotamia, before he settled in Haran,
Y él dijo: Mis hermanos y padres, escúchenme. El Dios de la gloria vino a nuestro padre Abraham, cuando estaba en Mesopotamia, antes de vivir en Harán,
3 and said to him, "'Leave your country and your relatives, and go into whatever land I point out to you.'
Y le dijo: Sal de tu tierra, y fuera de tu familia, y ven a la tierra a la que yo te mostraré.
4 "Thereupon he left Chaldaea and settled in Haran till after the death of his father, when God caused him to remove into this country where you now live.
Luego salió de la tierra de los caldeos y fue a Harán. y desde allí, cuando su padre murió, fue guiado por Dios a esta tierra, donde ahora viven ustedes:
5 But he gave him no inheritance in it, no, not a single square yard of ground. And yet He promised to bestow the land as a permanent possession on him and his posterity after him--and promised this at a time when Abraham was childless.
Y Dios no le dio ninguna herencia en ella, ni siquiera lo suficiente para poner su pie en ella, pero él le dio una promesa, que está tierra se la daría a él y a sus hijos después de él, aunque no tenía hijos en ese momento.
6 And God declared that Abraham's posterity should for four hundred years make their home in a country not their own, and be reduced to slavery and be oppressed.
Y dijo Dios que su simiente viviría en tierra extraña, y que los convertirían en esclavos, y serían maltratados por cuatrocientos años.
7 "'And the nation, whichever it is, that enslaves them, I will judge,' said God; 'and afterwards they shall come out, and they shall worship Me in this place.'
Y yo seré el juez, dijo Dios, de la nación que los hizo esclavos; y después de eso, saldrán y me adorarán en este lugar.
8 "Then He gave him the Covenant of circumcision, and under this Covenant he became the father of Isaac--whom he circumcised on the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve Patriarchs.
Y él hizo con Abraham un pacto y ordeno la practica de la circuncisión. Y así Abraham tuvo un hijo, Isaac, y le dio la circuncisión en el octavo día; e Isaac tuvo un hijo, Jacob, y Jacob fue el padre de las doce tribus de Israel.
9 "The Patriarchs were jealous of Joseph and sold him into slavery in Egypt. But God was with him
Estos hijos de jacob, que fueron nuestros antepasados, llenos de envidia contra José, lo vendieron a Egipto como esclavo; pero Dios estaba con él,
10 and delivered him from all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom when he stood before Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who appointed him governor over Egypt and all the royal household.
Y lo libró de todas sus angustias, y le dio sabiduría y le hizo ganarse el favor de Faraón, rey de Egipto, que lo hizo gobernador de Egipto y de toda su casa.
11 But there came a famine throughout the whole of Egypt and Canaan--and great distress--so that our forefathers could find no food.
Hubo una hambruna en todo Egipto y en Canaán, y hubo gran miseria; y nuestros antepasados no pudieron conseguir alimento.
12 When, however, Jacob heard that there was wheat to be had, he sent our forefathers into Egypt; that was the first time.
Pero Jacob, oyendo que había trigo en Egipto, envió a nuestros padres por primera vez.
13 On their second visit Joseph made himself known to his brothers, and Pharaoh was informed of Joseph's parentage.
Y la segunda vez que sus hermanos tuvieron una reunión con José y se dio a conocer a sus hermanos, y Faraón tuvo conocimiento de la familia de José.
14 Then Joseph sent and invited his father Jacob and all his family, numbering seventy-five persons, to come to him,
Entonces José envió por Jacob su padre y toda su familia, setenta y cinco personas en total.
15 and Jacob went down into Egypt. There he died, and so did our forefathers,
Y descendió Jacob a Egipto, y allí murió, y así como nuestros padres;
16 and they were taken to Shechem and were laid in the tomb which Abraham had bought from the sons of Hamor at Shechem for a sum of money paid in silver.
Y fueron llevados a Siquem, y puestos a descansar en el lugar que Abraham obtuvo por precio en plata de los hijos de Hamor en Siquem.
17 "But as the time drew near for the fulfilment of the promise which God had made to Abraham, the people became many times more numerous in Egypt,
Pero cuando llegó el momento de que se cumpliera la promes que Dios le había dado a Abraham, el pueblo crecía en Egipto,
18 until there arose a foreign king over Egypt who knew nothing of Joseph.
Hasta que otro rey subió al poder, que no conocía a José.
19 He adopted a crafty policy towards our race, and oppressed our forefathers, making them cast out their infants so that they might not be permitted to live.
Él, teniendo malos designios contra nuestra nación, fue cruel con nuestros antepasados, y se vieron obligados abandonar y dejar morir sus niños pequeños con el fin de que no se propagasen.
20 At this time Moses was born--a wonderfully beautiful child; and for three months he was cared for in his father's house.
En ese tiempo Moisés nació, y él era muy hermoso; y fue guardado por tres meses en la casa de su padre.
21 At length he was cast out, but Pharaoh's daughter adopted him, and brought him up as her own son.
Cuando tuvieron que abandonarlo, la hija de Faraón lo tomó y lo tuvo como a su hijo.
22 So Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and possessed great influence through his eloquence and his achievements.
Y Moisés fue entrenado en toda la sabiduría de Egipto, y fue grande en sus palabras y obras.
23 "And when he was just forty years old, it occurred to him to visit his brethren the descendants of Israel.
Pero cuando tenía casi cuarenta años, le vino al corazón ir a ver a sus hermanos, los hijos de Israel.
24 Seeing one of them wrongfully treated he took his part, and secured justice for the ill-treated man by striking down the Egyptian.
Y al ver a uno de ellos siendo atacado, fue en su ayuda y le dio un golpe mortal al egipcio:
25 He supposed his brethren to be aware that by him God was sending them deliverance; this, however, they did not understand.
y esperaba que sus hermanos vieran que Dios lo había enviado a ser su salvador; pero ellos no lo entendieron.
26 The next day, also, he came and found two of them fighting, and he endeavoured to make peace between them. "'Sirs,' he said, 'you are brothers. Why are you wronging one another?'
Y el día después, vino a ellos, mientras peleaban, y los ponía en paz, diciendo: ustedes son hermanos; ¿Por qué se maltratan entre ustedes?
27 "But the man who was doing the wrong resented his interference, and asked, "'Who appointed you magistrate and judge over us?
Pero el hombre que estaba haciendo mal a su prójimo, empujo a Moisés, le dijo: ¿Quién te nombró gobernante y juez sobre nosotros?
28 Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?'
¿Me matarás como lo hiciste con el egipcio ayer?
29 "Alarmed at this question, Moses fled from the country and went to live in the land of Midian. There he became the father of two sons.
Y al decir estas palabras, Moisés huyó a la tierra de Madián, y vivió allí un tiempo, y tuvo dos hijos.
30 "But at the end of forty years there appeared to him in the Desert of Mount Sinai an angel in the middle of a flame of fire in a bush.
Al cabo de cuarenta años, un ángel se le acercó en el desierto del Sinaí, en la llama de un árbol ardiente y espinoso.
31 When Moses saw this he wondered at the sight; but on his going up to look further, the voice of the Lord was heard, saying,
Y Moisés, al verlo, se maravilló, y cuando se acercó para tener una visión más cercana de él, la voz del Señor vino a él, diciendo:
32 "'I am the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob.' "Quaking with fear Moses did not dare gaze.
Yo soy el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham y de Isaac y de Jacob Y Moisés, temblando de miedo, evitó que sus ojos lo miraran.
33 "'Take off your shoes,' said the Lord, 'for the spot on which you are standing is holy ground.
Y el Señor dijo: Quítate los zapatos de tus pies, porque el lugar donde estás es santo.
34 I have seen, yes, I have seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt and have heard their groans, and I have come down to deliver them. And now I will send you to Egypt.'
En verdad, he visto el sufrimiento de mi pueblo en Egipto, y sus clamores han venido a mis oídos, y he descendido para librarlos; y ahora, ven, te enviaré a Egipto.
35 "The Moses whom they rejected, asking him, 'Who appointed you magistrate and judge?' --that same Moses we find God sending as a magistrate and a deliverer by the help of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
Este Moisés, a quien no quisieron, diciendo: ¿Quién te hizo gobernante y juez? Dios lo envió para ser gobernante y salvador, por mano del ángel que vio en el árbol de la zarza.
36 This was he who brought them out, after performing marvels and signs in Egypt and at the Red Sea, and in the Desert for forty years.
Este los sacó, habiendo hecho maravillas y señales en Egipto, en el Mar Rojo y en el desierto, por cuarenta años.
37 This is the Moses who said to the descendants of Israel, "'God will raise up a Prophet for you, from among your brethren, just as He raised me up.'
Este es el mismo Moisés, que dijo a los hijos de Israel: Dios te dará un profeta de entre tus hermanos, como yo;
38 'This is he who was among the Congregation in the Desert, together with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai and with our forefathers, who received ever-living utterances to hand on to us.
Este es el hombre que estaba en la asamblea en el desierto, con el ángel que le hablaba en el Sinaí, y con nuestros padres; y a él se le dieron las palabras vivas de Dios, para que él las pasara a nosotros.
39 "Our forefathers, however, would not submit to him, but spurned his authority and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.
Pero nuestros padres no obedecieron; pero lo rechazaron, volviendo su corazón a Egipto,
40 They said to Aaron, "'Make gods for us, to march in front of us; for as for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.'
y diciendo a Aarón: Haznos dioses para ir delante de nosotros; en cuanto a este Moisés, que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto, no tenemos idea de que haya pasado él.
41 "Moreover they made a calf at that time, and offered a sacrifice to the idol and kept rejoicing in the gods which their own hands had made.
E hicieron la imagen de un becerro en aquellos días, y le hicieron una ofrenda, y se regocijaron en la obra de sus manos.
42 So God turned from them and gave them up to the worship of the Host of Heaven, as it is written in the Book of the Prophets, "'Were they victims and sacrifices which you offered Me, forty years in the Desert, O House of Israel?
Pero Dios se apartó de ellos y rindieron culto a las estrellas del cielo, como está escrito en el libro de los profetas: “Me hiciste ofrendas de ovejas y bueyes durante cuarenta años en el desierto, oh casa de Israel?
43 Yes, you lifted up Moloch's tent and the Star of the God Rephan--the images which you made in order to worship them; and I will remove you beyond Babylon.'
Si, levantaste tienda a Moloc y la estrella del dios Refán, imágenes que tú hiciste para adorarlos; y te llevaré lejos, aún más lejos de Babilonia.
44 "Our forefathers had the Tent of the Testimony in the Desert, built as He who spoke to Moses had instructed him to make it in imitation of the model which he had seen.
Nuestros padres tenían la Tienda del testimonio en el desierto, como Dios le ordenó a Moisés que la hiciera según el diseño que había visto.
45 That Tent was bequeathed to the next generation of our forefathers. Under Joshua they brought it with them when they were taking possession of the land of the Gentile nations, whom God drove out before them. So it continued till David's time.
Nuestros padres recibieron esta tienda como herencia, y los que vinieron con Josué, la trajeron consigo cuando conquistaron la tierra de los otros pueblos, a los que Dios expulsó delante de nuestros padres, hasta el tiempo de David,
46 David obtained favour with God, and asked leave to provide a dwelling-place for the God of Jacob.
el rey David agradó a Dios; y él tenía el deseo de hacer una tienda santa para el Dios de Jacob.
47 But it was Solomon who built a house for Him.
Pero Salomón era el constructor de su casa.
48 Yet the Most High does not dwell in buildings erected by men's hands. But, as the Prophet declares,
Pero aún así, el Altísimo no tiene su lugar de descanso en casas hechas con manos, como dice el profeta,
49 "'The sky is My throne, and earth is the footstool for My feet. What kind of house will you build for Me, says the Lord, or what resting place shall I have?
el cielo es la sede de mi poder, y la tierra es un lugar de descanso para mis pies: ¿qué tipo de casa me edificarán? dice el Señor, ¿o cuál es mi lugar de descanso?
50 Did not My hand form this universe.'
¿No hizo mi mano todas estas cosas?
51 "O stiff-necked men, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you also are continually at strife with the Holy Spirit--just as your forefathers were.
Duros de cerviz e incircuncisos de corazón y de oídos!; están resistiendo el Espíritu Santo; como hicieron sus padres, ustedes también.
52 Which of the Prophets did not your forefathers persecute? Yes, they killed those who announced beforehand the advent of the righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become--
¿Cuál de los profetas no fue cruelmente atacado por sus padres? y mataron a quienes les dieron la noticia de la venida del Justo; a quien ahora han abandonado y han dado muerte;
53 you who received the Law given through angels, and yet have not obeyed it."
Ustedes, a quien la ley fue dada como fue ordenada por los ángeles, y no la ha obedecido.
54 As they listened to these words, they became infuriated and gnashed their teeth at him.
Oyendo estas cosas, se enfurecieron en el corazón y rechinaban los dientes contra él.
55 But, full of the Holy Spirit and looking up to Heaven, Stephen saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at God's right hand.
Esteban lleno del Espíritu Santo, y mirando al cielo, vio la gloria de Dios y de Jesús a la diestra de Dios.
56 "I can see Heaven wide open," he said, "and the Son of Man standing at God's right hand."
Y él dijo: Ahora veo los cielos abiertos, y el Hijo del hombre a la diestra de Dios.
57 Upon this, with a loud outcry they stopped their ears, rushed upon Stephen in a body,
Pero a grandes voces, y tapandose sus oídos, lo atacaron todos juntos,
58 dragged him out of the city, and stoned him, the witnesses throwing off their outer garments and giving them into the care of a young man called Saul.
Echándolo fuera de la ciudad le apedrearon; y los testigos pusieron sus ropas a los pies de un joven llamado Saulo.
59 So they stoned Stephen, while he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
Y Esteban, mientras era apedreado, oró a Dios, diciendo: Señor Jesús, toma mi espíritu.
60 Then, rising on his knees, he cried aloud, "Lord, do not reckon this sin against them." And with these words he fell asleep.
Y echándose de rodillas, dijo en alta voz: Señor, no los hagas responsables de este pecado. Y cuando dijo esto, durmió.
