2 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, for proclaiming the promise of the Life which is in Christ Jesus:

Paolo, apostolo di Cristo Gesù per volontà di Dio, secondo la promessa della vita che è in Cristo Gesù,

2 To Timothy my dearly-loved child. May grace, mercy and peace be granted to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

a Timoteo, mio diletto figliuolo, grazia, misericordia, pace da Dio Padre e da Cristo Gesù nostro Signore.

3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience--as my forefathers did--that night and day I unceasingly remember you in my prayers,

Io rendo grazie a Dio, il quale servo con pura coscienza, come l’han servito i miei antenati, ricordandomi sempre di te nelle mie preghiere giorno e notte,

4 being always mindful of your tears, and longing to see you that I may be filled with joy.

bramando, memore come sono delle tue lacrime, di vederti per esser ricolmo d’allegrezza.

5 For I recall the sincere faith which is in your heart--a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and then in your mother Eunice, and, I am fully convinced, now dwells in you also.

Io ricordo infatti la fede non finta che è in te, la quale abitò prima della tua nonna Loide e nella tua madre Eunice, e, son persuaso, abita in te pure.

6 For this reason let me remind you to rekindle God's gift which is yours through the laying on of my hands.

Per questa ragione ti ricordo di ravvivare il dono di Dio che è in te per la imposizione delle mie mani.

7 For the Spirit which God has given us is not a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of sound judgement.

Poiché Iddio ci ha dato uno spirito non di timidità, ma di forza e d’amore e di correzione.

8 Do not be ashamed then to bear witness for our Lord and for me His prisoner; but rather share suffering with me in the service of the Good News, strengthened by the power of God.

Non aver dunque vergogna della testimonianza del Signor nostro, né di me che sono in catene per lui; ma soffri anche tu per l’Evangelo, sorretto dalla potenza di Dio;

9 For He saved us and called us with a holy call, not in accordance with our desserts, but in accordance with His own purpose and the free grace which He bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before the commencement of the Ages, (aiōnios g166)

il quale ci ha salvati e ci ha rivolto una sua santa chiamata, non secondo le nostre opere, ma secondo il proprio proponimento e la grazia che ci è stata fatta in Cristo Gesù avanti i secoli, (aiōnios g166)

10 but which has now been plainly revealed through the Appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus. He has put an end to death and has brought Life and Immortality to light through the Good News,

ma che è stata ora manifestata coll’apparizione del Salvator nostro Cristo Gesù, il quale ha distrutto la morte e ha prodotto in luce la vita e l’immortalità mediante l’Evangelo,

11 of which I have been appointed a preacher, Apostle and teacher, to the Gentiles.

in vista del quale io sono stato costituito banditore ed apostolo e dottore.

12 That indeed is the reason why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know in whom my trust reposes, and I am confident that He has it in His power to keep what I have entrusted to Him safe until that day.

Ed è pure per questa cagione che soffro queste cose; ma non me ne vergogno, perché so in chi ho creduto, e son persuaso ch’egli è potente da custodire il mio deposito fino a quel giorno.

13 Provide yourself with an outline of the sound teaching which you have heard from my lips, and be true to the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

Attienti con fede e con l’amore che è in Cristo Gesù al modello delle sane parole che udisti da me.

14 That precious treasure which is in your charge, guard through the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.

Custodisci il buon deposito per mezzo dello Spirito Santo che abita in noi.

15 Of this you are aware, that all the Christians in Roman Asia have deserted me: and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.

Tu sai questo: che tutti quelli che sono in Asia mi hanno abbandonato; fra i quali, Figello ed Ermogene.

16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus; for many a time he cheered me and he was not ashamed of my chain.

Conceda il Signore misericordia alla famiglia d’Onesiforo, poiché egli m’ha spesse volte confortato e non si è vergognato della mia catena;

17 Nay, when he was here in Rome, he took great pains to inquire where I was living, and at last he found me.

anzi, quando è venuto a Roma, mi ha cercato premurosamente e m’ha trovato.

18 (The Lord grant that he may obtain mercy at His hands on that day!) And you yourself well know all the services which he rendered me in Ephesus.

Gli conceda il Signore di trovar misericordia presso il Signore in quel giorno; e quanti servigi egli abbia reso in Efeso tu sai molto bene.
