2 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, for proclaiming the promise of the Life which is in Christ Jesus:

2 To Timothy my dearly-loved child. May grace, mercy and peace be granted to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

an Timotheus sein geliebtes Kind. Gnade, Barmherzigkeit, Friede von Gott dem Vater und Christus Jesus unserem Herrn.

3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience--as my forefathers did--that night and day I unceasingly remember you in my prayers,

Ich bringe Dank dem Gott, dem ich von Vorfahren her diene in reinem Gewissen, dabei daß ich unablässig deiner Erwähnung thue in meinen Gebeten - Tag und Nacht

4 being always mindful of your tears, and longing to see you that I may be filled with joy.

voll Verlangen, dich zu sehen, in Erinnerung an deine Thränen, daß ich möchte mit Freude erfüllt werden -

5 For I recall the sincere faith which is in your heart--a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and then in your mother Eunice, and, I am fully convinced, now dwells in you also.

im Andenken an deinen unverfälschten Glauben, der zuerst zu Hause war bei deiner Großmutter Lois und deiner Mutter Eunike, ich traue aber darauf: auch in dir.

6 For this reason let me remind you to rekindle God's gift which is yours through the laying on of my hands.

Um welcher Ursache willen ich dich erinnere, die Gabe Gottes warm zu halten, die in dir ist vermöge meiner Handauflegung.

7 For the Spirit which God has given us is not a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of sound judgement.

Denn Gott hat uns nicht gegeben einen Geist des Zagens, sondern der Kraft und Liebe und Zucht.

8 Do not be ashamed then to bear witness for our Lord and for me His prisoner; but rather share suffering with me in the service of the Good News, strengthened by the power of God.

So schäme dich nicht am Zeugnis für unseren Herrn noch an mir seinem Gefangenen, sondern nehme Teil am Leiden für das Evangelium nach der Kraft Gottes,

9 For He saved us and called us with a holy call, not in accordance with our desserts, but in accordance with His own purpose and the free grace which He bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before the commencement of the Ages, (aiōnios g166)

der uns gerettet hat und berufen mit heiligem Rufe, nicht zufolge unserer Werke, sondern nach eigenem Vorsatz, und die Gnade die uns verliehen ward in Christus Jesus vor ewigen Zeiten, (aiōnios g166)

10 but which has now been plainly revealed through the Appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus. He has put an end to death and has brought Life and Immortality to light through the Good News,

jetzt aber kund gethan ward durch die Erscheinung unseres Heilandes Christus Jesus, der den Tod zu nichte gemacht und dagegen Leben und Unvergänglichkeit ans Licht gebracht hat durch das Evangelium,

11 of which I have been appointed a preacher, Apostle and teacher, to the Gentiles.

für welches ich bestellt bin als Botschafter und Apostel und Lehrer.

12 That indeed is the reason why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know in whom my trust reposes, and I am confident that He has it in His power to keep what I have entrusted to Him safe until that day.

Um welcher Ursache willen ich auch solches leide, des ich mich aber nicht schäme; denn ich weiß wem ich meinen Glauben zugewendet, und bin gewiß, daß er im Stande ist, mir die Mitgabe auch zu bewahren auf jenen Tag.

13 Provide yourself with an outline of the sound teaching which you have heard from my lips, and be true to the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

Halte dich an das Muster der gesunden Lehren, die du von mir gehört hast in Glauben und Liebe in Christus Jesus;

14 That precious treasure which is in your charge, guard through the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.

bewahre die edle Mitgabe durch den heiligen Geist, der in uns wohnt.

15 Of this you are aware, that all the Christians in Roman Asia have deserted me: and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.

Das weißt du schon, daß die in Asia sich alle von mir losgesagt, darunter Phygelus und Hermogenes.

16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus; for many a time he cheered me and he was not ashamed of my chain.

Der Herr schenke sein Erbarmen dem Hause des Onesiphorus, weil er mich oft erquickt und sich meiner Ketten nicht geschämt hat;

17 Nay, when he was here in Rome, he took great pains to inquire where I was living, and at last he found me.

sondern wie er nach Rom kam, hat er eifrig nach mir gesucht bis er mich gefunden.

18 (The Lord grant that he may obtain mercy at His hands on that day!) And you yourself well know all the services which he rendered me in Ephesus.

Der Herr verleihe ihm Erbarmen zu finden beim Herrn an jenem Tage. Und was er für Dienste in Ephesus geleistet, das weißt du am besten.
