2 Timothy 1
1 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, for proclaiming the promise of the Life which is in Christ Jesus:
Paul Apôtre de Jésus-Christ, par la volonté de Dieu, selon la promesse de la vie qui est en Jésus-Christ:
2 To Timothy my dearly-loved child. May grace, mercy and peace be granted to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
A Timothée, mon fils bien-aimé, que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix te soient données de la part de Dieu le Père, et de la part de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur.
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience--as my forefathers did--that night and day I unceasingly remember you in my prayers,
Je rends grâces à Dieu, lequel je sers dès mes ancêtres avec une pure conscience, faisant sans cesse mention de toi dans mes prières nuit et jour.
4 being always mindful of your tears, and longing to see you that I may be filled with joy.
Me souvenant de tes larmes, je désire fort de te voir afin que je sois rempli de joie;
5 For I recall the sincere faith which is in your heart--a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and then in your mother Eunice, and, I am fully convinced, now dwells in you also.
Et me souvenant de la foi sincère qui est en toi, et qui a premièrement habité en Loïs, ta grand-mère, et en Eunice, ta mère, et je suis persuadé qu'elle [habite] aussi en toi.
6 For this reason let me remind you to rekindle God's gift which is yours through the laying on of my hands.
C'est pourquoi je t'exhorte de ranimer le don de Dieu, qui est en toi par l'imposition de mes mains.
7 For the Spirit which God has given us is not a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of sound judgement.
Car Dieu ne nous a pas donné un esprit de timidité, mais de force, de charité et de prudence.
8 Do not be ashamed then to bear witness for our Lord and for me His prisoner; but rather share suffering with me in the service of the Good News, strengthened by the power of God.
Ne prends donc point à honte le témoignage de notre Seigneur, ni moi, qui suis son prisonnier; mais prends part aux afflictions de l'Evangile, selon la puissance de Dieu;
9 For He saved us and called us with a holy call, not in accordance with our desserts, but in accordance with His own purpose and the free grace which He bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before the commencement of the Ages, (aiōnios g166)
Qui nous a sauvés, et qui nous a appelés par une sainte vocation, non selon nos œuvres, mais selon son propre dessein, et selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Jésus-Christ avant les temps éternels; (aiōnios g166)
10 but which has now been plainly revealed through the Appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus. He has put an end to death and has brought Life and Immortality to light through the Good News,
Et qui maintenant a été manifestée par l'apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ, qui a détruit la mort, et qui a mis en lumière la vie et l'immortalité par l'Evangile;
11 of which I have been appointed a preacher, Apostle and teacher, to the Gentiles.
Pour lequel j'ai été établi Prédicateur, Apôtre, et Docteur des Gentils.
12 That indeed is the reason why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know in whom my trust reposes, and I am confident that He has it in His power to keep what I have entrusted to Him safe until that day.
C'est pourquoi aussi je souffre ces choses; mais je n'en ai point de honte; car je connais celui en qui j'ai cru, et je suis persuadé qu'il est puissant pour garder mon dépôt jusqu'à cette journée-là.
13 Provide yourself with an outline of the sound teaching which you have heard from my lips, and be true to the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
Retiens le vrai patron des saines paroles que tu as entendues de moi, dans la foi et dans la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ.
14 That precious treasure which is in your charge, guard through the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.
Garde le bon dépôt par le Saint-Esprit qui habite en nous.
15 Of this you are aware, that all the Christians in Roman Asia have deserted me: and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.
Tu sais ceci, que tous ceux qui [sont] en Asie, se sont éloignés de moi; entre lesquels sont Phygelle et Hermogène.
16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus; for many a time he cheered me and he was not ashamed of my chain.
Le Seigneur fasse miséricorde à la maison d'Onésiphore: car souvent il m'a consolé, et il n'a point eu honte de ma chaîne;
17 Nay, when he was here in Rome, he took great pains to inquire where I was living, and at last he found me.
Au contraire, quand il a été à Rome, il m'a cherché très soigneusement, et il m'a trouvé.
18 (The Lord grant that he may obtain mercy at His hands on that day!) And you yourself well know all the services which he rendered me in Ephesus.
Le Seigneur lui fasse trouver miséricorde envers le Seigneur en cette journée-là; et tu sais mieux [que personne] combien il m'a rendu de services à Ephèse.
